GUILTY MI - Aundria Bowman, 14, murdered, Holland, 11 March 1989 *located 2020, adoptive father convicted*

A brief hearing was held yesterday at the Allegan County 57th District court. Judge Kengis recused himself due to the fact that he had been working on the Aundria Bowman case a few years ago with the MSP cold case unit. Here is Bowman's reaction, when Judge Kengis announced that his replacement would be Judge Margaret Bakker.

Needless to say, he wasn't pleased.

Can someone explain what is happening in this case?
Disposition: Stay
Disposition date: June 3, 2021

What exactly does this mean?

There was a scheduled hearing to recuse the judge, because she had signed off on some paperwork connected with Aundria's case, when she worked for the D.A.'s office 30 years ago.

The hearing was "stayed" (cancelled). But we don't know the disposition of the defense's motion.

Bowman trial: Lawyers clash over use of past crimes in court

On Wednesday, Judge Margaret Bakker said she expected to allow some of Bowman's past convictions, including Doyle's murder, to be used as evidence during the trial.

But she ordered the attorneys for both sides to study the issue further and reconvene for more arguments in the next month.

Bakker set a deadline of Nov. 15 for lawyers to turn over evidence to each other.

The jury trial is set to begin Jan. 11 and is scheduled to last two weeks

Including or mentioning a previous conviction on a similar charge (murder) is something that is carefully considered every time. The court has to be very careful not to do something that might be prejudicial to the case/defendant.

In this case, Bowman has been convicted of a very brutal murder of Kathleen Doyle, a murder that occurred BEFORE that of Aundria. It will probably be allowed, because it tends to prove that he is capable of killing and there may be elements and evidence that link the cases in some way. If it is not introduced during the trial itself, it will very likely be included at the time of sentencing.

''ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — Dennis Bowman was sentenced in an Allegan County courtroom Monday morning for the murder of his adoptive daughter in 1989.

Bowman was charged in 14-year-old Aundria Bowman's death back in May of 2020 and pleaded no contest in December of 2021.

The court sentenced Bowman to a minimum of 35-50 years in prison''.

By all definitions, Dennis Bowman is a Serial Killer. It might be a good idea to chart out his travels and locations to perhaps link him to some of the other unsolved murders that he may have committed.
