Can't quote for some reason but it wasn't a "burner phone" in the literal sense, it was a tongue-in-cheek description of the fact that she had a prepaid phone. It wasn't like she used one for a month and then got a new one. Maybe it's a Michigan thing but there are a lot of prepaid phone people, prepaid phone's often have better signals in some of the rural parts for whatever reason.
Also, I always just thought that her phone and keys being missing meant they were probably in her coat pocket. Its interesting to see other people's theories on that.

Found this post by Holocene (our VI), dated Dec. 7: "Honestly it's a non-issue. She's always used a burner phone for years. Just personal preference. Trust me, the police have thoroughly vetted that issue."
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...uthfield-2-Dec-2016-1&p=12986354#post12986354

And also this (dated Dec. 29): "To clarify, since I have just forced myself to read through pages and pages of comments deliberating over her phone, 'burner' in this instance was simply being used as shorthand slang for pre-paid.' Nothing nefarious, I promise you."

I read the 1st thread and was amazed with the info that spilled forth early on. But I'm always on guard when someone says, trust me, this is a non issue or I promise this is not an issue.

I'm absolutely not a millennial, however I do leave my bag in the car daily and run out with just phone keys and if necessary cc or money. I rarely bring my purse on quick errands, gym etc.

If her plan was to just run into her apt to pack a bag, feed the cat and leave then I completely see leaving that in the car imo.

The key was discussed at length in thread 1.
I am absolutely amazed that many of you leave your purses in your car (even though locked) in full view!

We have bands of gypsies that roll through twice a year and the police actually put up those lit signs saying: Do not leave your purses in your car. (Even if you hide it under the seat or in your trunk).

They have become quite sophisticated and extremely brazen in their methods of taking purses.
In broad daylight and within yards of unsuspecting people in a parking lot.

I'm thinking they should head North! 😲👜

I never said in full view.

Devils in the details.

I leave my purse in my car all the time. I sit it in the back seat and just grab my phone, key and wallet to run in places. In fact, that's where my purse is right now! Lol
I have a BMW and can not lock the car with the keys inside. I have to remove the fob for the car to lock.

Some people use prepaid phones because they can't afford a traditional cell phone plan. Some have bad credit and don't want to have to pay the hefty deposit that big cell carriers would charge.
Some just don't like to have big bills and prefer to use prepaid because they can buy a prepaid card when they have the money and don't have to worry about big surprise bills. It's easy to budget when you know your cell phone bill is only $30 for some people.
Regardless, it has been discussed at length already about the phone and further discussion about prepaid phone or " burner phones" won't likely be fruitful.
Not everyone that uses one is a cheater and drug dealer. Some younger people just like to keep things simple and try to avoid extra debt. Some get better service then Verizon and are much more affordable for younger people.

This exactly. I only said "trust me" in this particular instance because, well, I know it to be a fact. It's a fact. Nothing nefarious, as I said before.

I suppose it all depends on the city you live in. The neighbors you have. We keep our cars running in the winter unattended in front of local stores when running in, I have never had a house key on my ring because doors are not locked, if you can't find my keys they are more than likely in the ignition. My kids play in the woods with friends alone ( a bit freaked since Delphi on this) and we look out for one another. Raised farm girl but have traveled the world alone at times in seedy third world countries. it's more about your surroundings in life and being aware of those surroundings. Not living under lock and key. Dani was a victim ... even if her kindness was the cause of her perhaps giving someone a lift home and something happened... she was who she was and loved for that.

I grew up in the same general area as Danielle and even though Detroit has a bad reputation...it is different when you grow up there and you are comfortable with your surroundings. You know what you normally can and can't do I always leave my purse and or laptop in the car and never worry about it.

Don't worry holocene no one thinks differently. It is the problem when people jump in without reading prior threads ...it rehashes all the nonsense

Yes we absolutely trust you Holocene and believe you, it's not an issue at all.

Holocene:

Adding my thanks for all of your helpful posts.

If anyone steals my purse the best they will get is some ibuprofen and nail clippers. My money and cards are all in my phone case.

Yes, I see. But why not take her purse?

Also, was the Jeep a keyless entry/
ignition?

I have a fob that never comes outside of my purse. I always have my purse with me. I have a button on the door of my car that I press once to open it or press twice to open all the doors. (as long as the fob is nearby.) Also, when out and about, my phone rarely leaves my purse. If I were to lose my phone, I'd be toast as I use it for everything.

But I am unfamiliar with young female millenials. Someone stated earlier that they figured when and if DS entered the house on Berkley, she probably put her keys and phone in her coat pocket and left her purse in the car. Is that normally what a young woman does these days? I truly have no clue.

Not sure where I'm going with this but I'm trying to get a feel for DS and her usual behavior and habits and if this perp was smart or if he was a novice in a hurry and scared he'd be caught and was careless.

I'm a millennial. Unless I'm going shopping or out to eat where I'll be away from my car for a while, I'll just leave my purse in the car. I've gotten to the point where I hate carrying it and only use it for work.

Just one more question for this evening and I know I'm going to catch heck but you don't learn anything if you don't ask and I know it's been asked but I'm not satisfied with the answer.

Why did she have a burner phone. BTW: I asked my millennial son (who did say he knows of a lot of women who don't carry purses.) The burner phone? His thoughts were either drugs, cheating or she didn't want someone at work to know her number.

I don't think it's 1 or2 but 3 maybe? Are they cheaper?
Again, stumped and clueless and probably too darn old to understand the reasons.

Prepaid "burner" phones are cheaper. Especially if she had little/bad credit, she wouldn't have to worry about paying a huge sum up front or if she had no credit, she might not even be able to get a plan. She may have started using a prepaid phone to have more independence from her family.

My sons have taught me that not all young people millennials, but a lot of them are very conscious about debt. Some watched their parents struggle through market crashes, high debt and foreclosures so many of them seem to be very responsible with their money. Many would rather not have huge surprise bills especially when they are still younger, unmarried and living alone. So it's not at all surprising to me that Danielle decided to go with a prepaid cell phone verse a big carrier. In fact, I really think it's a dead end as far as this investigation is concerned. I just don't see that her disappearance is hinged on the fact that she used a cheap phone company.
Holocene said from the start that it's not a big deal so I think we should take his word on it and move forward from the prepaid phone . This isn't a soap opera, not everyone who decides to go with a prepaid phone is a criminal or up to no good. Actually, I got my son one when he moved off on his own and was no longer on my plan. He used it until he was able to pay off his car and open his own account. It's just not a big deal.

Yes lets not rehash all this stuff. Anyone new we beg you to take some time and read all the threads... Holocene etc have been very helpful and we went thru all of the obvious clues.
We are now in a holding pattern waiting for DNA or Dani or an arrest.

Regarding BBM - sadly, at this point seems all we can do.... It's like you said, - LE needs more before an arrest can be made...
