Not really its human trafficking awareness month.

Human trafficking awareness month wasn't last month and many stories across the metro Detroit area related to it. I think it's not likely but not far fetched to post stories like that.

It's always been around, think 8 mile, cass corridor. The difference now is high tech, ya got online and social media. So it's very easy now to lure ones into trafficking and get ones who are looking for these victims. Focus on it has been on the rise for some time due to that. This area has extra factors, Detroit high crime, border crossing and casinos, along with a bad economy and it just plays into the other factors above.

Any time you have something coming up, prior to it and shortly after it you will see more stories.

I'm not discounting trafficking, it's slim but it's a possibility. But the buzz about it to me has nothing to do with the case. All just MO.

... I am also skeptical of the cause of death ruling for EH who was found on the home depot roof and have this lingering thought, as someone else has mentioned, that there is a connection...

So... I'm also suspicious of the autopsy results and the timing of that situation. I will say, I had read somewhere that the running theory in that case was that she had climbed up on the roof to huff the A/C coolant to get high and unfortunately, lost her footing/balance near the fan. I know people do that but by all accounts, she seemed rather healthy -- worked at a gym, even -- but maybe was depressed. I don't think it was suicide by any account. I do think it's weird that she was able to get up there at all and I think how long it took LE to find her has shaken my faith re: their expertise a bit.

Anyway, the timing was still bizarre between these two cases. It's hard to ignore that both EH and DS fit the same general profile, at least by appearances. I also know that EH has family who literally live within 3 city blocks away from the house they searched in the DS case in Berkley, and I think that's the one thing that still has me second guessing whether there could be some connection. Not to say it involves a family member but perhaps they both crossed paths with a psychocreep. I really wish we knew where DS got her cat food from. Was it the same Petsmart EH used to gain access to Home Depot roof? If so... I doubt it's linked but the coincidences between the two cases are a bit overwhelming and it's not like LE would come out and state they are linked without knowing what happened to DS yet. It would cause a panic and may not even pan out. Like I said, probably not related but still second guessing that they could potentially be.

This world is one evil f'ing place. (Thanks Captain Obvious). I never fully realized just how evil. And I grew up in Detroit. Not the suburbs. The city. You'd think I would have already known this.

Pointless post. I know. Just thinking out loud because I can't sleep.

I think you might've mentioned this before unless it was another poster but either way, I agree. I hope the Pet Food Store was looked into further by LE since DS disappeared. The EH case has always bothered me especially in regard to this case, so much about it, like you mentioned. A lot of similarities that are very hard to brush off.

Yeah, no doubt. Not really pointless, it's true when they say life is sometimes stranger than fiction, it's scary. Reminds me of a movie I watched recently, Pet. A disillusioned guy keeps a girl in like a sub basement of his work. And then we hear about Kala Brown. There's a lot of evil out there for sure but don't loose sight of all the good guys... even the ones like us who can only try our best to help from the other side of a computer screen. We may bicker and get snippy at times but at the end of the day everyone's heart is in the right place. And that, hopefully, especially in times like this, can help this world seem just a little brighter.

I haven't really given thought to who else he may have hurt. I just get this Ted Bundy vibe from him.
Elizabeth Hocks death was accidental. No one killed her. She was on top of the roof because she had a bucket list and one of the things she wanted to dance on roof top in the rain. She sat next to the fan system taking off her shoes. When she went to stand up the fan system went on (high powered) it snagged her long hair and sadly descalped her.

Going back a couple pages, I do think that she is no longer with us, as much as I hate to say that.

At first I thought this was an accidental, crime of passion sort of thing, based on theories and speculation, but the fact that there is so little evidence makes me think this was intentional and premeditated. No cameras at MetLife, no cameras at IG, car placed back in her spot, and zero witness sightings of her in that 24 hour span (that we are made aware of). Hard to believe that whoever did this got lucky with all of those things and is living their life as if nothing happened.

I do think that the SG or whoever did this had help, help that didn't realize exactly what they were involving them self in. maybe the friend was aware that he had a relationship outside of his marriage and was trying to help him cover an affair, or maybe he told the friend he was drunk and needed a ride. Whatever the excuse was, it's not like you'd automatically think your friend committed a horrible crime. I've picked up friends at 4 in the morning no questions asked.

My question would be, if you have heard rumors that your friend was involved in a disappearance of a woman the same night you assisted with a ride or had even had communication with them within that timeframe, why wouldn't you immediately come forward to LE to cover your own *advertiser censored*?

Like most here, I believe LE knows WAY more then we can even speculate. They could've put his picture out to the public, and maybe a lot of people would've come forward to sightings, character witnesses, past violent experiences, etc. They must know enough about him that they are not in need of public assistance.

Wow. Thanks for the update. That certainly clarifies things. What an incredibly sad and violent thing to happen to such a beautiful young girl who probably thought she was going to have an amazing adventure. I bet she never even thought something like that could possibly happen.

Your welcome! Very heartbreaking indeed.

What bothers me about that case is that the final autopsy results showed there was THC I her system, like that was the cause of death. I know plenty of people who smoke weed, and have had my times in college, and marijuana is just not a justifiable reason for death on top of a major chain store.

ETA: thanks for the clarification Owl, I wasn't aware of those details. That's heartbreaking

I was aware of those details and I'm still suspicious. Heartbreaking regardless. She was very young.

Can you give the link for that? Last I heard, it was something about compression.

Hi there...I see sometimes people saying that causing someone's death may have been "accidental." In particular cases, such as rear-ending someone at a stoplight because you weren't paying attention, sure, that's an incident when life was accidentally taken. This morning I dropped an entire container of yogurt on the kitchen floor. That was also accidental. But, for example, when Van der Sloot at some point said something about Natalie's death being accidental, it made me sick. We all know that, in no way, did he murder her by accident, especially since he murdered another woman not long after.

Whether a person, statistically a man, goes to fetch a knife and stabs a woman, smothers her with a pillow, or wraps his hands around her neck and squeezes for several minutes, I cannot dismiss any of those actions as accidental.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks, all.

BBM Ugh... Van Der Sloot is the biggest nastiest piece of work out there. Nothing accidental about what he did.

Actually, as I've stated in the past, we did not primarily focus on the apartment grounds. That's just where we STARTED. Once the area was canvassed the police had us move on across the street to every single business. We checked every single dumpster. I've never felt so sick in my life before opening lid after lid on dumpsters. I even checked the grease bins in those back lots. Do you know what it's like to put a stick in one of those things and feel around for anything at all in utter fear? I do. We went inside every business and asked them if we could put up her flier while they stared at us in confused pity. We asked them if their cameras faced the roads. Then we moved further down the road to businesses a mile away. The wooded areas nearby were searched. We looked through those ditches and reeds. I watched her grandfather pick up any item of old tattered clothing or garbage he could find and put it in a bag for the police in the hopes that it might be some kind of evidence. You don't know how devastating that is until you see it up close. Golf courses were poured over, the pond nearby she liked to visit, neighborhoods, gas stations, banks, malls, and on and on and on. The police searched the area with their dogs. No, those first search parties were not the end of it. Friends were chased away from malls, businesses and parking lots by the police time and again.

What I'm saying is, the police have a reason to ask us to stop. They have a reason. All I'm saying.

My heart aches for you. I'm not saying much on thread until something else comes to light, but I'm still reading, we're all still standing behind you. I'm sorry.

Is there a link somewhere for this info? This is the 3rd or 4th time I've seen someone type it, but I've never read it anywhere. I was just thinking that it was the "Urban Legend" version of the story. If it's true... well, damn.
