Simon charges in Nassar probe sparks senate testimony review

Charges leveled against former Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon for allegedly lying in the sexual assault investigation into ex-sports medicine doctor Larry Nassar are pushing lawmakers to re-examine what she told them earlier this year.

Michigan State interim president says he'll resign after comments about Nassar victims

Interim President John Engler had said women sexually assaulted by Larry Nassar have been enjoying the "spotlight" since coming forward.

DETROIT — Michigan State interim President John Engler submitted his resignation Wednesday amid public backlash over his comments about women and girls sexually assaulted by now-imprisoned campus sports doctor Larry Nassar.

Federal report blasts Michigan State for failure to stop Larry Nassar

Hundreds of girls and women said Nassar sexually molested them while he worked for Michigan State and Indiana-based USA Gymnastics.

Charlotte — Lawyers prosecuting and defending former Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon Tuesday began the first day of her preliminary hearing with opening statements, supporting and refuting charges against her related to the Larry Nassar sex abuse scandal.

Strampel guilty of misconduct in office, not guilty of criminal sexual conduct

Lansing — The former dean of Michigan State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine was convicted Wednesday of misconduct in office and two counts of willful neglect of duty but acquitted of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

A 12-member jury in Ingham County Circuit Court delivered the split verdict against William Strampel after roughly five and a half hours of deliberation that began Tuesday.

Misconduct in office, a five-year felony, is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The neglect of duty charges are misdemeanors...

Congress found the FBI, Michigan State, USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic Committee failed to protect young gymnasts from sexual predator Dr. Larry Nassar.

WASHINGTON — The organizations that should have protected young female gymnasts from sexual abuse by former Olympic gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, including the U.S. Olympic Committee and the FBI, "fundamentally failed" to do so for years, according to a new congressional report.

In an interview with NBC News, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., the ranking member of the Senate subcommittee overseeing the Olympics, described the actions of the organizations as a "cover up."
