Interesting, knowing that he could be going away for up to 20 years...

I hope they are able to regain some normalcy in their lives and be successful ...

on this charge ONLY he would not be doing 20 years i bet .. more likely the minimum (6 years 3 months NET)

but this charge is "nothing" really (to me anyhow) .. it's not as important as Jane's murder charge.

If / when BB is charged with that .. and convicted .. he'd be doing much more than 6 or 20 years ;)

---------

Cuz, say, if Jane's murder charge against him doesn't come ... - he can play or look like a hero basically: "Gentz killed my Jane .. and that is why I wanted him, also, dead..."

More like a hero then .... you know what i mean :)

That is why his current charge / conviction ... to me is kinda "nothing" really ... - the only importance of it, again to me, is to keep BB "put" and containted for a while...

Jane's murder charge --- that is what really counts and important, again, to me anyhow ;)

Handyman faces pretrial hearing in alleged Bashara murder-for-hire plot

7:08 AM, December 14, 2012

A handyman, who told police he killed a Grosse Pointe Park mother at her husband’s behest, is scheduled to be back in Wayne County Circuit Court this morning for a pretrial hearing.

Joseph Gentz, 48, is charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy in the death of Jane Bashara, who he told investigators he killed in January at the direction of her husband, Bob Bashara.

Jane Bashara was found strangled in her SUV on Detroit’s east side.

...

Gentz’s attorney, Susan Reed, said her client would be willing to testify against Bashara if he is charged.

On Monday, Reed said Gentz has not settled a plea agreement.

“We’re still reviewing all the options,” she told the Free Press.

In a sentencing memorandum in the solicitation of murder case against Bashara, Wayne County prosecutors said Bashara was trying to silence Gentz.

“The evidence clearly shows that defendant Bashara was hell-bent on thwarting the investigation into his role in the cold-blooded murder of his wife, Jane Bashara,” the court document says. “Defendant’s ultimate goal was to silence Joseph Gentz in an effort not to avenge the murder of his wife, but to prevent Gentz from any future testimony against defendant Bashara.”

The fact that they charged Gentz with conspiracy tells me that they know BB was involved..

I wonder why he hasn't been charged? There must not be physical evidence .. and maybe they are waiting for Gentz to be convicted so all of BBs "alleged" involvement will be recorded in court documents.. ?

Dunno....

Macomb Daily staff photo by David N. Posavetz / Joe Gentz appears with his attorney, Susan Reed, on Friday in front of Judge Vonda Evans in Wayne County Circuit Court in Detroit.

A judge adjourned a pretrial for Joe Gentz this morning and scheduled a “special pretrial” for next Friday in Wayne County Circuit Court in Detroit.

Gentz, 48, a former Macomb County resident, is charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy for last January’s death of Jane Bashara, 56, in her Grosse Pointe Park garage. Her body was found Jan. 24 in her SUV parking in an east-side Detroit alley.

Gentz appeared in court dressed in a reddish jail outfit.

Judge Vonda Evans announced the adjournment after meeting with assistant Wayne County prosecutors Robert Moran and Lisa Lindsey and defense attorney Susan Reed in a sidebar discussion for about five minutes.

Attorneys did not indicate why the judge called the hearing “special,” although one attorney said pretrials are often called special.

Reed has previously indicated that she hoped to negotiate a potential plea deal in the case with prosecutors...

Bashara to begin prison sentence in isolation

By George Hunter
The Detroit News

Robert Bashara will begin his prison sentence isolated from other inmates, corrections officials said Friday.

Bashara pleaded guilty to solicitation for murder and was sentenced last week to 6 to 20 years in prison after trying to hire a hit man to kill Joseph Gentz, the man accused of murdering his wife.

Gentz, who is charged with the Jan. 24 murder of Jane Bashara, appeared in Wayne Circuit Court Friday for a pre-trial conference that lasted less than a minute, in which it was determined Gentz would return to court Dec. 21 for a "special pretrial hearing," Judge Vonda Evans said.

The delay came as Robert Bashara, spent his 55th birthday in the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center in Jackson on Tuesday after being sentenced a day earlier by Wayne Circuit Judge Bruce Morrow.

Bashara pleaded guilty to the solicitation of murder charge, saying during his sentencing Monday he was "ashamed" and "regretful" for hatching the plot.

High-profile prisoners often are kept away from other inmates — which will happen with Bashara, at least for the first leg of his sentence, said Russ Marlan, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Corrections.

"We will be placing Bashara in protective custody to begin his prison sentence," Marlan said in an email Friday...

...

Bashara's earliest release date is Feb. 24, 2019, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections website.

Gentz to face ‘special pretrial’ hearing Dec. 21

By K. Michelle Moran
C & G Staff Writer

Defendant Joseph Gentz will face at least one more court appearance before his jury trial gets under way in January on charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the January 2012 slaying of Jane Bashara.

During what had been billed as a final calendar conference in the case Dec. 14 in 3rd Circuit Court Judge Vonda Evans’ courtroom, Wayne County prosecuting attorneys Robert Moran and Lisa Lindsey and defense attorney Susan Reed met briefly with the judge in her chambers before agreeing to hold a “special pretrial” hearing at 9 a.m. Dec. 21 in Evans’ courtroom.

“I look forward to doing that,” Evans told the attorneys with regard to the special hearing.

Exactly what the special pretrial hearing means wasn’t clear at press time, although some have speculated Gentz could be agreeing to a plea deal — something Reed had said previously she had been trying to obtain for her client. Officially, it’s been labeled a special pretrial conference because a pretrial conference was already held.

After the calendar conference, Reed slipped out of the court building without speaking to reporters, and the prosecutors weren’t commenting on the case.

Gentz reportedly told police that he killed Jane Bashara in her garage Jan. 24 at the behest of her husband, Robert Bashara. Gentz is currently being held in the William Dickerson facility in Hamtramck, where he’s being kept in isolation for his safety.

Bashara, who has denied playing a role in his wife’s death and has not been charged in connection with her killing, pleaded guilty to solicitation of murder for trying to hire a hit man to kill Gentz in jail. For that offense, Bashara was sentenced to 6-20 years in a state prison Dec. 10 by 3rd Circuit Court Judge Bruce U. Morrow. He spent his 55th birthday Dec. 12 at the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center in Jackson. According to the Michigan Department of Corrections website, Bashara will remain incarcerated until at least Feb. 24, 2019. If he serves his full sentence, he won’t be out of prison until June 24, 2032.

According to my little calculator, 80 to 240 months is 6.666666666666667 years to 20 years. Perhaps the judge was sending a little message to him.

less almost 6 months (i think it was 168 days) ... CREDIT .. for time served... ;)

Man who said he killed Grosse Pointe Park woman may avoid trial with plea deal

Joe Gentz, who told investigators he killed Grosse Pointe Park mother Jane Bashara at her home, may avoid trial with plea deal

---- TEXT & VIDEO (1:55) ----

DETROIT - The man who told police investigators he killed a Grosse Pointe Park woman may avoid trial with a plea deal.

Sources tell Local 4 Joe Gentz, who was a handyman for Jane Bashara's husband Bob Bashara, may have a deal in place which could be announced Friday in court. Gentz is expected in court Friday morning for his pretrial hearing.

Those close to the case say attorneys representing Gentz have been in negotiations with prosecutors and both sides have been working to make this deal happen before the end of the year.

What would the plea deal look like? It may be 2nd degree murder and a minimum of 20 years in prison for Gentz.

...

Sources say once the Gentz deal is done Bob Bashara himself may be next to face charges for his wife's murder. From day one investigators have felt Bob Bashara was involved in plotting his wife's death.
