I have been wondering if Rebekah's mom was writing to White while he was in prison. There are websites that have pics/profiles of people in prison that are looking for pen pals, etc. Kind of like match.com.

He does have a son who looks to be in his 20s, who is married and has a young son as well.

This was the case in Alicia Debolt (14) in KS too. A woman from her town became pen pals with an inmate (36) and upon his release from a TX prison she moved him in. Within a couple of months Alicia's body was found burned at his place of employment. He had been grooming her. The ditsy woman had two tweens also.....and still talked about a "relationship" with him "depending" the outcome of the trial. :what: She was damn lucky. The guy had been in and out of prison all his life and had no idea how to cope in the real world. Very disturbed....and a very "bad" man. He locked up for good now. RIP Alicia....still think of you at times when I see shiny, sparkly clothing. :rose:

In that article it states that neighbors are trying to get a Murderer Database online in MI. I hope they do. Illinois has a Murderer and Violent Offender Database (like the sex offender database) and it is a good tool to use to help keep us safe. Wish they were all in jail for life so we wouldn't have to have a database at all though!

We are a small(er) town...I think most people are in disbelief that something like this could actually happen so close to home. It was surreal to drive by the corner where the body was found...way too close to home. Talking with my friends, once the body was found, we all selfishly hoped that it was someone that knew her...nothing is scarier than a random killer that is on the loose. Sometimes small town police depts get a bad rap (ie: nothing compared to the swiftness of TV crimes), but I'm quite impressed with the diligence that was shown in solving this crime.

We had another murder this summer (also on Websleuths) on the reservation here...Carnel Chamberlain. We like to think of our little town as safe but it is becoming a reality that it's not as safe as we think!
