Times are sure changing. I remember when Brian Nichols murdered the Judge, court reporter, and killed a police officer outside of the courthouse in Atlanta a few years back it was the main news topic for days even weeks afterwards on all the major news channels. It was most likely one of the biggest news stories of that year or even the top story. Yet, now when it happens again the national media mentions it sporadically here and there for a couple of days and moves on.:(

IMO

To be fair there's a LOT of news happening right now. In light of recent events I expected this to get more coverage, but then I thought about all the headlines in the last few days. It's almost as if there just isn't room. Which is a shame but someone somewhere has to make a decision on what airs and what doesn't.

I guess because he only killed two police officers that it is not big news. Ho hum

..."an amazing man that got mixed up with the wrong people" ...

I find this statement by LDG's ex-wife misguided and almost laughable. Getting "mixed up with the wrong people" is something that parents say about an adolescent or teen who got into trouble because he/she started hanging out with the wrong crowd. Silly to suggest that an adult wasn't capable of making his own choices and blame it on his association with "the wrong people". :moo:

Seriously that woman is delusional 🙄

Was she "blaming" the wrong crowd of people he was mixed up with for what he did? His rap sheet speaks a different language than what she said about him. I for one wouldn't want him around my family. Geesh people, she needs help.

If he did not want to go to prison he should have never committed those acts of violence.

TYVM for answering my question. W/S, what a great site: so may different backgrounds & experiences.

IIRC from an early article (sorry, no link), sheriff said We had no indication he could do this (or become violent? I forgot which, my paraphrasing). Seems puzzling to me, as inmate as facing crim sexual conduct charge, IIRC. And DV, iirc.

Does your co jail require "cuffed in front with belly chain and leg shackles" always/virtually always? Or does it depend on what offense the inmate is charged with and/or behavior while in jail? What about other jails' policies? Anyone? TiA.
Depends on the situation. Outside of the jail it's always in shackles. Transporting to court, which is located in the same building as the jail, most are not restrained. Any transport outside the jail in public it's full restraints.

Most holsters have a locking mechanism in them to prevent the gun from being pulled straight out. I'm not sure why it was so easy for him to disarm the bailiff.

Thousands march to honor victims of Berrien shooting

Francis X. Donnelly, The Detroit News 12:14 a.m. EDT July 13, 2016

St. Joseph — The crowd, several thousand strong, walked past the downtown band shell, the marina, the kids’ museum and the park with a four-tiered water fountain.

They walked along a bluff that gave a breathtaking view of the St. Joseph River.

Year in and year out, the river has seemed to buffer this prosperous lakeside resort in the southwest corner of Michigan from problems.

But on Monday, trouble arrived as a prisoner trying to escape from the Berrien County Courthouse fatally shot two bailiffs and injured two other people before being killed by officers.

On Tuesday, residents filled the parking lot of the courthouse and walked to a memorial for fallen law enforcement officers...

How can the ex-wife be in such denial about this predator? Not to mention, the shed where this poor girl was held hostage for two weeks was in her backyard. The mind boggles.

But he's really a decent guy, just fell in with the wrong crowd. :-|

He's been "falling in with the wrong crowd" for quite some time.
