Interesting that he resigned at the urging of Senator Obama.

Greene’s case has been moved out of cold cases, straight to the top of the elite violent crime task force’s pile.

The task force is made up of officials from the FBI, Michigan State Police and the Detroit Police Department.

Watch: Task Force Assigned To Greene Case

"They're going to get any support they need from me to do what they need to do to put it to bed," Evans said. "If it culminates in an arrest, that's great."

The decision to reopen the case follows a Local 4 Defender investigation that uncovered a team of new police officers who, in sworn statements, said they were shut down when they tried to follow up on leads. The officers testified that one lead involved how self-proclaimed hit man Vincent Smothers could have been involved in Greene’s death, but that the investigation was shut down by police brass in Kilpatrick’s final months as mayor.

But the group of officers has now testified that that police brass shut down the investigation when Kilaptrick's name surfaced as an associate to a self-confessed hit man, Vincent Smothers. It is alleged that Smothers may have been hired to kill Greene.

Also on Thursday, Local 4 Defenders revealed that several police officers from an elite federal task force testified Detroit Police upper-brass shut down the investigation into admitted hit man, Vincent Smothers, when they wanted to pursue a lead that could link Smothers and Kilpatrick to the Greene case.

The investigators had information from Kentucky police that one of Smothers’ close friends, James Davis, bragged about being a close friend of Kilpatrick’s.

The task force wanted to go down to Kentucky to talk to Davis but the investigation was stalled.

When an officer pressed police supervisors, he was told “this (the case) is bigger than me, bigger than you, bigger than both of us.”

Smothers admitted to killing 11 people and is in prison for the murder of a Detroit Police Officer’s wife.

The task force officers said Smothers was going to confess to other murders but a police boss barged into the interview room and ended the interrogation.

From then on, officers said they were told not to investigate the Greene or Smothers cases.

SuziQ, thank you so much for the links. I'm praying they find something about Tamara's murder and are able to solve it.

I don't think little kk had TG murdered. I think that was a jealous woman move and it is not Carlita. IMO Little kk had the power to block the investigation and he used it. I wonder who is the father of TG's last child. The events surrounding this case should get heated up real soon. Seems the task force is finally getting to the bottom of this case.

If Kwame didn't block the investigation because of his involvement who did he block the investigation for? I've always wondered about Beatty.

Leads are to be revisited in hit man case

Task force to look into drug dealer claims

An elite multi-jurisdictional task force taking a fresh look at the unsolved Tamara Greene murder will also revisit possible leads in the case of accused hit man Vincent Smothers.

The investigation into Smothers, who is awaiting trial on eight murder charges, reportedly stalled last year after Detroit police Detective Ira Todd was transferred out of the task force.

Todd sued the city shortly afterward, alleging he was kicked out because he had established a possible link between Smothers and a reputed drug dealer in Lexington, Ky., who bragged to Kentucky police officers that he had personal and professional connections to former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

The claim has never been proved, and none of the people who allegedly hired Smothers have been charged.

BBM. This is what smells to me, that no one who hired this hitman was ever charged.

Hey SuziQ I have questions about Beatty also. Carlita is not a jealous woman.

<snip>

A Michigan State Police detective testified that Detroit police prevented him from reviewing tapes of 911 calls and computer files that might have contained evidence of a rumored party at the official mayoral residence in 2003, a newspaper reported Sunday.

The Detroit Free Press quoted Sgt. Mark Krebs as saying in a sworn deposition that senior city police officials barred him from taking a box of 36 tapes from Detroit police headquarters shortly after the April 30, 2003, drive-by shooting of exotic dancer Tamara Greene, who was said to have performed at the never-proven party.

Krebs testified that when he and other state detectives returned to police headquarters the next day to collect the box of tapes, they found 30 tapes missing.

I am not sure where we are tracking Kwame's malfeasance, but dude is already being charged with probation violation for not making his balloon payments to reimburse the city for the trials. He tried to appeal the payments and lost-he may be charged with probation violation as soon as April because, wait for it wait for it, he lied about his finances. Prosecutors have discovered that Kwame and his wife are living in a mansion, have taken out 240K in loans and are driving fancy SUV's while living in Dallas.

His defense attorney actually said that he "can't" be expected to live on burgers and beer while attempting to groom highend clients.

WHY NOT? Dude is a felon....why should he be allowed to live above his means when he owes Detroit 1 million dollars????
