Would he have forced her to shot herself or shoot her and make it look like a suicide? He was calling her unstable right?
wow- strange case.
I hope Venus is alive and well, if not I hope they catch who did this to her.
From the sound of it (blood in cars, receipt for shovel, gloves, tarp) it's pointing towards DS.
 
If he hid the vehicles for a few days...and STILL managed to leave receipts for shovel, tarp and also leave blood...than he is really a moron as well as a cold-blooded killer IMO...almost too good to believe for prosecution...

Well, thankfully he has made it easy for the state to prosecute, if the latest news is true. Maybe he thought his two alibi witnesses would take care of any suspicion (they are not dealing with a genius here).
 
I am trying to remember the last time NG had real breaking news that had not heard elsewhere...and can't! Wow...if true...

w/ respect intended, of course. This IS big news.
 
So I guess it would be possible for someone to call the kids from Dougs phone and do a three way call where they could connect Doug through to make it look like he called from the house...
ETA: The call he made the day before the abduction to his kids

Can you imagine if he sent someone else...and they left the receipt? DS will be pretty ticked off...got the wrong man for the job, if that's the case...
but i think this was too personal to send anyone else...imo
 
I wonder if he had someone else meet him somewhere in his car along the way to dump Venus's body so he could make sure to get back in time for his alibi ....

Nevermind I still don't think his alibis are real ....
 
PORTAGE — The body of a 48-year-old Portage man was found Saturday morning near the tennis courts at Portage Central High School.

A man walking his dog spotted the body and contacted Portage police about 10:45 a.m.

It appears, police say, that the man died of a gunshot wound. Police “concluded it was self-inflicted,” said Sgt. Jess Kalis of the Portage Police Department.

The police are not releasing the man’s name, pending notification of his family. An autopsy is not planned.

In seeking help from Newport News, a Michigan detective said he also wanted to search the Dodge pickup truck for blood, hair, tarp, and the clothing Venus was wearing when she was last seen.

Since NG's blog claims all that was being looked for in the search was found, IMO either someone misread it, or is playing a bit of a joke. I wonder if the search warrant specified that they were looking for a pink elephant if the site would state two had been found, one in each vehicle. No other site is reporting this, either, so I'm gonna blow it off as a mistake.

Ok... this is the first time I've used bing maps. The great thing is that you can get Bird's Eye View of locations, so I think I'm going to use it more often, because I love that feature.

Didn't NG devote most of her show to this case last night? If so, maybe she got exclusive information as a result or part of her deal with LE? just a thought

I thoroughly agree. His family has said nothing during the nearly two weeks that Venus has been missing. Not a word. Maybe they know that the jig is up and in their hearts they know that DS is responsible. Or maybe he contacted one of them and asked for some help. Or maybe he hid her body on property belonging to one of them (with or without their permission).

I've just got a gut feeling that someone in his family either helped him or refused to help him when he asked for help.

When he received the court order re custody, he had to have called someone in his family to vent. The guy seems to have NO FRIENDS his age. So maybe he called a family member to vent and a plan was hatched.

Or maybe he did it alone. I just have a hunch that at the very least he asked someone in his family to help him, manipulating them into helping with the "we'll never see the girls again since Venus has custody" line.

Or maybe my imagination is soaring today. :)

He didn't hide the vehicles, they were parked outside the condo where he lived. IIRC they were found on the 28th, which was probably the first day the local police went looking for them.

As far as the vehicles are concerned, the timeline would be something like this:

Morning of the 26th: she dissappears
"Late evening" of the 26th: LE contacts hubby in Virginia (presumably by phone)
27th: LE decides that he is a POI, decides they need to find the pickup due to sighting by the neighbor, and contacts the Newport police to assist in the investigation.
28th: Newport police assigns someone to go out and investigate, and locates the vehicles.

After that to actually search the vehicles they would need warrants, which would have taken the balance of the time. But it doesn't look like the vehicles had been hidden, LE just didnt have legal access to them until the warrant was issued.

Unless there was a leak or it's just a rumour it seems hard to believe that LE would exclusively provide that info to NG. But it's the weekend so this probably won't be cleared up until next week.
