Well, it sounds like he lawyered up the same day or the day after she disappeared, so what good does it do to continue to say the he is not a suspect or to simply call him a POI if he is really a suspect when he has already instructed them to go through his attorney for everything?

I don't know what the law is in Michigan, but if they do so perhaps there is a time frame involved where there's a deadline by which they'd have to formally charge him. If that's the case, maybe they don't want that clock to start ticking yet.

Did that make sense ?

Venus Rose Stewart, 32, was last seen wearing pajamas on Monday morning. Police believed she may have been with her estranged husband, Douglas Harrie Stewart.

But the 29-year-old man was contacted at his Virginia home and he said he hasn't seen her.

Late afternoon Tuesday, Douglas Stewart spoke with 24 Hour News 8 and said he had nothing to do with his wife's disappearance. He was, he said, out of state.

"I am a good citizen, a good person," he said by phone.

Police had difficulty locating Douglas Stewart, but found him in Virginia. Michigan State Police said they are not clearing him as a person of interest, and are working with Virginia police to confirm his whereabouts on Monday

BBM .. what an odd thing to say when your wife is missing

I somehow do not think the guy in the woods/water had anything to do with this...just opinion...would be nice if he would come forward but he could even be homeless.
Venus' dad said last night on Nancy's show that the guy is local and knows who he is and not related to her disappearance. MOO

Well, I don't know. Guilty or not, he's bound to know that at least her family would be telling God and everyone he'd kidnapped and harmed her. I imagine his lawyer told him to shut the hell (which of course is excellent advice).

Venus' dad said last night on Nancy's show that the guy is local and knows who he is and not related to her disappearance. MOO

Then Dad needs to contact the police with that information.

If her Dad knows the guy in the sketch is local and knows who he is...wouldn't he be inclined to share that information with...ummm...let me think...THE COPS? The father seems to know an awful lot of things that the police don't if that's true.

I haven't read anything that says the man was identified, questioned, or that he is local. Once again, this is info coming straight from LM.

I noticed that too. She was distraught. He sat there cold and expressionless. And when she started to fall apart, he just kinda looked over at her like, "what are you doing?" If anyone has a clip of that, I'd love to see it again.

Do you remember what the date was of the night when we all noticed LM pulling away from his wife?

Was it the 5th?

The other locals didn't seem to recognize him, they were startled by him.

The locals also said the lake area was pretty private and that he DID NOT belong where he was.

http://www.woodtv.com/dpp/news/local/sw_mich/suspicious-person-in-Venus-Stewart-case

Two people say they encountered this suspicious man at Adams Lake the night before Stewart disappeared. The witnesses said it was unusual the man was wet, as if he was swimming. He asked the witnesses for a cigarette.

"Police felt strongly enough about the lead (that) they conducted an all-out search of the lake using sonar equipment," said Lt. Michael Risko of the Michigan State Police. "Their search turned up nothing."

Investigators have yet to look at a swampy area near the lake that has no boat access. Officials hope to proceed once flood waters subside.

This man is not considered a suspect. Witnesses say he was acting suspicious prior to Stewart's disappearance.

Douglas Stewart is the only official "person of interest" in the case, police told 24 Hour News 8, although they say he has a solid alibi for the time his wife disappeared.

I think her father is so determined it be Doug and only Doug, he might say anything about the man in the woods...I am sure LE is listening too and asking questions.

As far as when they were on NG...I did notice Dad seemed cold to Mom but it could just be the fact of being on TV and not knowing how to act...

Then Dad needs to contact the police with that information.
I agree. If this guy in the composite is completely innocent then it's not fair to him that he's all over the media in connection with this case. Or maybe in dad's mind, he already knows who is guilty, so this guy has to be innocent. MOO

It was the 1st or 2nd night that it was on with BOTH parents live on camera sitting in front of the LP tank...they were facing the camera and he was on the left, her on the right.

Found it! May 4th. On NG show is when LM turned to his Wife as she begged for her Daughter, VS' life. It really starts around the 1:56 mark.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aumzhh222Zg

How about a pat on the back or grabbing her hand or something to comfort her? or any expression of concern as she's completely breaking down? He just sat there like a bump on a log and I found it very, very odd.

Thank you so much for posting this.

I feel sorry for the guy. He's tried to protect his daughter against threats from her estranged husband, and now she's missing. It's got to be excruciating for him.

That video only says to me that he's unfamiliar with being on TV and doesn't know what to do. He also looks exhausted. I don't envy at all what his family is going through, nor the weight that's got to be on that father's shoulders right now.

As for the chairs being placed where they are, they were more than likely positioned there by NG's camera crew.

Because maybe he's not comfortable showing emotions in front of a million viewers on a cable TV show, and also because he appears to be from the era where "real men" didn't wear their emotions on their sleeves.

He's been with his wife for at least 32 years. Whatever both of them are doing, apparently it works for them, and I'm not going to judge someone with a marriage that's more successful than most marriages in the US.

It reminds me a lot of my Uncle when he isn't comfort, he isn't one to show too many emotions to strangers.

He is probably blaming himself because he was home when it happened. I am not going to judge how he acts. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes. They must be devastated.
