Regardless of whether or not the lion had a name or was part of an Oxford University study, he was (reportedly) purposefully lured off the wildlife preserve so that he could be hunted and killed.
Why is this salient fact seemingly being ignored by the Zimbabwean officials? According to the various articles I've read, the hunting license doesn't permit the luring of an animal from the wildlife preserve so that it can be killed.
I smell a payoff or, at the least, an attitude of looking the other way in order to protect future game-hunting tourism dollars.
