I have to say I am extremely glad the FBI got involved. I live literally directly across the street from the civic center. 32 apartments in this apartment community directly face the parking lot of the civic center (mine included). Monday morning I expected a knock on the door from a police officer canvassing the area. Nothing.

Thursday they announced that the FBI was involved. I said to my husband that night, perhaps they'll be smart enough to canvas the apartments now? What do you know, bright and early the next morning a police officer knocked on the door. So she went missing Sunday, they waited until Friday to ask if anyone here saw anything.

I'm unable to help with the search since I have a 3 week old baby (this case hits quite close to home), but as far as I know they're not calling for or allowing citizens to volunteer yet. Each time they mention searching it's only after the fact and it only refers to firemen/police officers searching.

I used to go to the local college. I started shortly after Bryan Westfall was hired. I also worked there, so I saw him/dealt with him fairly often. On one hand I hope it *was* him, because the prospect of this being a random attack is very scary (since 3 weeks ago it could have been me). On the other hand, I hope it *wasn't* him, because the thought that someone capable of murder was walking among us at school is really scary also.

In any case, I truly hope and pray that Amanda is found alive and safe. However sadly not many people around here are counting that as a possibility anymore.

Thanks so much for filling us in on some added information ambyuk. It's always so helpful when someone in an immediate area of a crime to give up reports as those of us in other states who aren't even hearing of this on our local T.V. stations.

You have the advantage of the layout of the area, and I hope if you have the time can keep us posted on any developing news.

My guess --- they were waiting to opbtain search warrants. Don't those sometimes take days?

Not if there is a good reason for a search and LE have a good reason as he was the last person to see Amanda. I think LE can get a search warrent in a matter of hours in an emergency. I don't know why it would have taken this long to obtain a warrent. Especially with Amanda due any minute and without meds.

Thanks Ambyuk for the first-hand on-site report.

Has a picture of Westfall been published? I haven't seen one, but perhaps I've just missed it. Maybe he's not involved, but right now the finger seems to be pointing at him.

Some of my friends and I are going to look with our friends and dogs and just start searching the area for the next several days to try to find Amanda. I don't know if there are any other local search efforts going on independent of those of family and LE but if anyone is interested, let's get something organized.

I'm guessing rivers or fields ... there's lots of those around the area.
Unfortunately there's also lots of wild animals, so if Amanda is deceased, there may not be much left of her, and I would hate to think of that.

Let's hope and pray she is still alive.

That is wonderful. I wish I lived there so I could go with you. Wouldn't it be something if you found her....alive. Do you have search dogs? How will you get Amanda's scent? Keep us posted please when you can. Lots of prayers will be going up.

Stay safe!

Thanks for the information. What did Bryan Westfall do at the college? What kind of a person did he seem to be....friendly...arrogant...quiet...etc????

I must have missed the message about doing a search, PrayersforMaura. I can't physically search but please e-mail me if I can help in any way, even just to give me a contact # so I can pass it on to anyone who may be interested in helping you.

Here's a picture of Bryan Westfall I found through Google's image search. It's from the college's website.
http://www.jeffco.edu/vt/bus/pictures/bwestfal.jpg

He was an instructor of Computer Information Systems. Seemed nice enough, I do remember some people saying they didn't really like him though but I heard that about almost everyone on campus from SOMEONE in my building (administrative).

Oh I also wanted to thank you for the informative thread. I found this doing a Google search to try and get as much information on the case as possible. There's lots of info here I wouldn't have found by myself. Not that my measly brain can put all the pieces together anyway but I still like to know as much as possible.

We bank at Eagle Bank also so Amanda is familiar to me, meaning I've seen her when I was in the bank. So sad to think she is gone.

And I forgot to add before, that I seriously considered calling the police on Tuesday to suggest that they canvas the apartments, but in a small town like this it's kind of difficult, since the police might have thought I was trying to do their job for them. You definitely want to stay on the right side of LE.

I really can't believe no-one saw anything. The family keeps saying that somebody who drove by had to have seen something! This is a busy road, and the parking lot is clearly visible. I wonder if there are people out there who don't keep up with the news and don't know she's missing?

He look very very familiar.
For some reason, I pictures him to look like something completely different.

I read somewhere that he is unemployed. Is he a student teacher?
A student? Did he get fired?

I just want to gather some friends and people localy to do a search of our own but I don't want to interfere with LE.
I have awful fears.
If she's in the water, it will be tough to find her.
If she's in the field, or on a farm, then animals may have gotten to her.

Thanks so much for the picture and inside info.
I just fell in love with Amanda and her family from the news coverage.
I heard that Amanda had the baby's room all ready to go.

This is so sad. I hope "child support" isn't the reason why Amanda is missing.
:(

JeffCo let a lot of people go... "early retirement" was forced on a LOT of people. I don't know if he was in with that cull. I am going to call my old boss tomorrow just to enquire, not that it will help the case in any way but I'm curious now that you asked. I'm pretty sure he didn't leave of his own accord. I remember reading that somewhere.

Where exactly are you planning to search? E-mail me if you can, I'd like to discuss the specifics of your plans to see if I can help. But obviously we don't want to bore people here with our talk about the fields of Jefferson County. :)

He lives south of here so I'm guessing that's where you'd head?

I know what you mean about falling in love with her from the news coverage. She seems like such a genuinely nice, loving person. :(

Thanks ambyuk for posting the pic, we used it in a post about the case and credited back to websleuths forums.

This case has to be solved!

Oh I totally agree with both of you... I was being sarcastic towards the media. Sorry, i thought more people would've understood what I meant. I've been follwoing Amanda's case from day one and care a great deal about her.
I hope no one thought I meant something otherwise.

I understood, PFM :blowkiss: , I just wanted to  Bobbisangel's well-written post.

ETA: After reading the rest of the thread, I wanted to welcome Ambyuk and thank her for her local knowledge - it really does help to those of us who live in other states and don't get the news coverage to keep informed.

Also, PFM - good luck with the search efforts :blowkiss:

If this guy is doing computers- there may potientally be a lot of info about him on the web. We need to get some of the sleuthers who are so good at web searches on this. Has anyone contacted planethuff.com about this case to see if you can get him interested?

Parents of missing pregnant woman finger baby's father

The parents of Amanda Jones are not mincing words about their daughter's disappearance. They know what happened to their daughter, they said in a Wednesday interview.

"The last person to see her was the father of her baby -- Bryan Westfall," Hubert Probst said.

When asked if Jones informed Westfall of her pregnancy when she learned she was expecting, her father said Westfall knew.

"She told him, and he said, 'I don't want a thing to do with you or the baby,'" Probst said.

Jones and Westfall had not seen each other since that conversation, Probst said, until the morning of her disappearance.
"The morning of the abduction, he called her and said, 'We've got to meet,'" he said. "I'm not stupid. I wasn't born yesterday."

....

"I want people to search their heart," he said. "If they know something and don't do what is right, then they're just as guilty and going to have to answer to a higher power."

My boyfriend said that pigs will eat a body very, very quickly. :(
He said that's where the saying comes from "greedy as a pig".

I know this sounds very bad, but supposedly LE checked Westfall's property. I know there are farms out there ... are there pig farms?

Oh no. :(

SEARCH FOR WOMAN TAKES NEW TURN The search for a missing pregnant woman from Jefferson County takes a new turn as investigators focus on two pieces of property owned by the man her relatives say is the father of the unborn child. Westfall's denial comes after the sheriff--for the first time--classifies him as a person of interest in the case. Westfall also questions whether he is the father of Jones' unborn son. Investigators confirm both aerial and canine assisted ground searches of Westfall's vehicle, home and property. They're releasing few details about what they've found. Jones' sister says early in her pregnancy, Westfall told her he wanted her to have an abortion. Westfall's attorney says that's not true...

"Police investigating the disappearance of a pregnant woman from Pevely searched the home and farm Wednesday of a man who authorities believe was the last person to see her.

Police also said publicly for the first time that they suspect foul play in the disappearance of the woman, Amanda Jones. She was last seen Aug. 14 on the horse show grounds of the Hillsboro Civic Center on Highway 21 in central Jefferson County."

LOL, you made it to the blogs-
From a poster at Websleuths, who found this picture on Google images, which seems to be of Bryan Westfall, the last person with Amanda Jones before she disappeared.

He isn't stupid about what????? That she won't sock him for child support???
This info just came out but what was the rest of the conversation?

I wonder if there even was a conversation about a young couple in a red car? It sounds to me like he called her and was upset and said "We've got to meet." He must have felt threatened in some way. What else could it have been but child support? He probably felt that he didn't owe her a thing as it was a one night stand and he sure didn't count on becoming a father because of a one night stand with someone he could care less about.

He doesn't look like a killer.....does he? Just shows how deceiving looks can be. I wonder if LE got a search warrent for the girlfriends home and vehicle?
Did they search his vehicle. I know LE said that he allowed them to do a walk through and then a search but what about his vehicle? What about his property...outside. I think I read that he has a farm. Any old wells on his property.
