Godejohn told police he traveled to Springfield and stabbed Dee Dee to death at Gypsy's request, the statement says. Godejohn and Gypsy then took "several thousand dollars" from Dee Dee's safe and fled to Wisconsin, the statement says.

Godejohn told authorities he asked Gypsy if she was sure she wanted him to kill Dee Dee and she told him yes, the statement says. Godejohn said Gypsy was hiding in the bathroom while he killed Dee Dee, the statement says.

Godejohn told authorities he mailed the knife to his residence in Wisconsin after the act so he would not get caught with it, the statement says.

Replying to my own post because this really stood out to me. In this 2001 article mother (then calling herself Deno) states:

"Because of her health, Gypsy spends a lot of time at Children's Hospital in New Orleans, her mother said. During overnight hospital visits, Pitre-Blanchard stays at the Ronald McDonald House. "We've been going to the Ronald McDonald House since she was three days old," she said.

Clearly there was evidence of something going on with Gypsy at birth (if not before) if mother had already been staying at the Ronald McDonald House in NO from the time Gypsy was 3 days old. I wonder who the "we" is she's referring to there, since I find it very hard to believe a newborn baby with a serious medical issue would be released from the hospital. Is she referring to herself and Gypsy? Maybe she's referring to Gypsy's father?

Also, the article was published in February 2001, and states Gypsy is 8 years old. That makes her at least 22, depending on when her birthday is.

Just thinking out loud.

OR.... DB was simply lying.

One life lost, two lives completely ruined.............and for what ?

I was hoping for the best, it was the first time I prayed in a year, guess that shows me to not do that again.

I slept about four hours in the past two days, and spent my time defending them here and even more on fb.

I'm not "old and gullible" I'm 32 with 4 kids and 2 divorces with the same person under my belt, I know the world is bad, people are bad.

I honestly just wanted to believe in them, things of course didn't work out the best for this family. It is such a tragic story, and I'm sure it will get worse over the next few days.

But I will continue to defend people who in my eyes deserve it until I'm proven otherwise.

RIP Dee Dee I am so sorry it ended this way for you. Nobody deserves that.

I understand what you guys are saying. You're equating this to a woman who endured years of physical and emotional abuse, and one day killed her abusive spouse. I get it. BUT.....look at DeeDee. Does she look like someone who would go after her if she simply ran away? I'm just not seeing a justifiable reason to do it. That in itself shows the two situations are different. DeeDee might have been a con artist, but probably harmless otherwise.

Long-time lurker, first-time poster ...

Looks can be incredibly deceiving. Deedee may look harmless, but the fact that she seems to've put her daughter through so much as it was (infantalizing, head-shaving, limiting her opportunities, essentially using her for cash and prizes) indicates that she wasn't harmless and may've been even worse behind closed doors. One of the things that perpetuates abuse is the ability to blend in with "normal" families and even look better than normal families. "We never knew!" seems to be a common refrain when horrific abuse comes to light.

All that said, nothing excuses cold-blooded, planned murder. Whatever she did or didn't do, her daughter had no right to take matters into her own hands this way.

The more I think about that facebook post, the angrier I get. She admitted to making the post, which means she also made that second comment, which mentioned rape and all that stuff. What the hell is wrong with her! Does Missouri have the death penalty? Just curious....

Yes. Missouri has the death penalty.

I was hoping for the best too. I don't think you're old and gullible for defending someone who wasn't proven guilty. Nothing wrong with that at all

Before you ask someone to kill for you. Or before you agree to kill at the request of someone.

Please make sure that the person isn't going to rat you out after a 20 minute interview. They were probably singing like canaries in the cop car.

They knew they were going to get caught and snitch on each other. So why didn't they discuss this part of the aftermath before the slaying.

People no longer think ahead. They just think now.

All of this was for nothing.

You're caught in 2 days. You're confessing on the 3rd day. So what was the purpose.

Welcome and great first post!

I agree with you. There are always different views from the other side of the door. I'm sure some type of abuse happened, whether it be emotional or physical I'm not sure.
BUT- I'm still not sold on murder being her only way out. Seriously....it's speculated that DeeDee was asleep before the murder happened. They couldn't just roll out the front door? Come on now.

Been reading the news all morning. Shocked, but not surprised if that makes sense. Just wow.

You are right and a good person for giving people the benefit of the doubt.

I see you've only just joined Websleuths. After a following a few dozen stories, you'll see the red flags. It's terrible but we learn here that the world can be completely bizarre and depraved. :(

That said, in my real life I'm a very trusting person and don't think every stranger I meet is a killer! Websleuths doesn't warp you, it just teaches you that you can *often* trust your gut feelings.

Most people ARE good. And the ones who are not usually let you know, subtly or overtly.

HUGS.

Sheriff says
Gypsy authored both fb posts
cautions on giving $ to family, uncovered evidence of long going financial fraud

I'm generally a lurker, but this case is just too bizarre. I'm trying to remember (I can't bear to re-read all the horrific details) if there was mention of a previous robbery at DeDe's home. Or have I mixed this up with another case? If there was a previous robbery, then it would be strange that there was that much money left in the safe. Anyone with a better memory remember if there had been a robbery? Thanks.

Sheriff says Gypsy can walk on her own and well and that they were in Springfield 1-2 days after murder.

Sheriff says they don't extent of fraud but seems lengthy.

Exactly. I dont understand why they did not just leave! He siad the mother was asleep! As an adult she had every right to leave! Sure the mother would have reported her missing or as some kind of endangered/missing adult, but once the daughter had been located, all she needed to do w was tell them about how her mother had been manipulating her for years for cash prizes, housing, attention etc. She would have been free, and the police would simply have told her mother, she is fine, and is not breaking any laws etc.

That being said, the boyfriend seems so disturbed, that she very well could have wound up a victim in another way.

I can't help but wonder why extended family or her own father was not able to remove her from the situation. It seems like I am reading comments about how people knew about it for years, and nobody did anything.

editing to add, now that I think about it, she probably was trapped in that house with no kind of identification, and no drivers license. She was essentially a prisoner. It still isn't reason enough to murder somebody, but its just too bad she didn't have a better advocate. :(
