I will bet there are just as many or more that are blindly supporting the cop as there are those who are defending MB. You do know it's possible to say MB was a and yet still believe the shooting was unjustified, right? You do realize that one can believe that MB is a and yet still acknowledge there are issues involving race that have to be worked through in that community irrespective of this case, right? I'll tell you I have seen use the phrase "gentle giant" the most...those who have already reached a conclusion that the shooting was justified.

As always, without commenting one way or the other on MB, I will continue to actually wait for information to be released.

BBM

I believe that sums up the reason for the protesting, as well as the looting. The shooting of MB, justified or not, has opened ,what I believe, are deep wounds of distrust in that community with LE. Regardless of the outcome of this case, that is what they need to address. I cannot say how they should go about it, but they definitely need to start with there. JMO.

Well sure, but they came forward and they gave statements, whether to media or to the police or at trial. They weren't overheard in the back of someone's recording and that's all we know about them. Wouldn't a witness giving a witness report to police or a courtroom have to state things like their names, where they live, where they were when the event happened, how they know the person they are giving the account about (if applicable), and so on? That, to me, is a real witness!

Maybe the witness from the recording has given a complete statement to the various LE agency's that are investigating this case but has not talked to the media. JMO.

I think people following the case are taking everything in that's been reported and coming to a preliminary conclusion as to what they believe happened and some are of the opinion it's more likely than not that OW was justified in his actions. I don't think that should be considered 'blindly supporting'. The description of 'gentle giant' is kind of laughable (to me, anyway) after seeing the video of how MB treated the store owner.

Witnesses and the order in which I find them credible from most to least

Canseco (sp?) guy - unidentified excited utterances background of cell video filmed shortly after shooting and featuring many voices discussing the shooting and telling one another what they allege the saw, think or feel just happened.

Almost as credible for me - Brady. He seems to be very clear in MSM interviews as to what he saw, what he surmised, what he assumed or thought and most importantly appears to admit freely what he did not see or what he could not see clearly enough to be sure about.

The employer picking up Paiget (sorry cannot recall her name)

Paiget

DJ

Much of the reasoning behind who I feel is most or least credible or why has to do with how much they are talking in the press and I am watching stories change or become more detailed as days and weeks pass. That troubles me a great deal. DJ specifically I find completely INcredible because he out and out lies in his initial interviews about when he began walking with MB, leaves out the entire store incident and his story morphs and mutates with nearly every retelling. HUGE red flags for me. Not to even mention the fact that events as he alleges completely defy all logical sense IMO

It wouldn't be surprising to learn that witnesses who saw what's considered to be OW version of what happened, would be fearful to go public with their story---everything considered.

You know, I hadn't even considered that.

The definition of a witness is someone who sees an event, typically a crime or accident, take place.

Says not a thing about whether or not they gave a formal statement to law enforcement.

Agreed. Every one out there was a witness to something.

Please explain why a witness simply going to, and answering questions from, the media makes them less credible. In most cases, those are the only witnesses we even hear from! Unless we're on a jury or something...

I think going to the media is a bad idea for the same reason going to the media would be a bad idea for OW. I don't think I commented on their credibility.

You know, I hadn't even considered that.

Well I can tell you for a fact---I sure as heck wouldn't. Not a chance. Not with people marching down the street chanting " Who do we want? Darren Wilson. How do we want him? Dead"

This is so true. I really don't want to minimize this case, but this is just one case. There are issues on both sides of the fence that need to be fixed. Or at least fixed the best they can. Like you, I don't know how they go about it, but in order to start, both sides are going to have to take a deep breath and talk because the shouting (using that word metaphorically) will get them no where.

Meghan Kelly on Fox news has the "Special" about Ferguson on right now!

I would hope so. But that still doesn't change the fact that it's difficult to judge the credibility of the person. For example, do you know if the guy was under the influence of anything at the time that might have affected his ability to accurately perceive events or his ability to accurately relate them? I have no idea either way, but neither does any one else and that is why judging his credibility at this juncture is simply premature. I could make a guess that he seems credible, but it's really just a guess.

And if I saw that report, I might very well consider it credible. I would have other info (about the witness, their location, their background etc.) to consider so I could accurately make that determination.

What do you think the response is if it is learned that this guy has charges pending for theft and having lied to the police about his name and DOB?

I have made no comments about DJ, his charges or his credibility. Therefore,if I learn more about him I could change my opinion on his credibility.

You have me on the fence about whether or not you're being sarcastic. If serious, at least you are honest enough to admit that you find this witness most credible because it backs up the version you want to believe as opposed to a version you don't want to believe.
It has zero to do with what anyone wants to believe. It is the most logical conclusion that one should come to with the facts, evidence and actual laws of this case.
(With what is known so far)

Some I do believe do so blindly, as in they will disregard any evidence to the contrary, but those are probably as small in number as those that blindly support MB despite any evidence that they shouldn't support him. Maybe for some, I should say prematurely supporting.

It has been said just as much the other way that those whose version tends to support MB are afraid to come forward for fear of the cops. That stuff might have some credence but it flows both ways. Yet another sign of those issues they have to work through in Ferguson and elsewhere.

Kind of like the Wilson supporters yelling "Shoot! Shoot! Shoot!" I don't doubt fear can play a factor but if we're going to be fair here, I'm not sure why we only put forth one side.

I've been wanting to post these vids, but not sure if allowed. It's one man's opinion on MB and situation surrounding it. Not for sensitive ears, he can cuss up a storm when he gets going, but I feel has some valid points and perspective. The first vid was recorded 2 weeks ago, the second 1 week ago.

I have two nieces that stole as young people, I would/will never trust either one of them. IIRC MB was shot for his actions towards OW that day, not so much for the act of the thief of swisher sweets. I may be mistaken but I have a feeling that after OW told the two to get out of the middle of the road and then pulled away he probably looked in the mirror and may have seen the swishers, but for what ever reason OW went back and then the physical confrontation between the two happened. It was pretty much a given that if MB was not arrested for that or was able to get away that he would be shoot.

bbm

I disagree with this statement because of the fact that we don't know that the struggle was for MB to get the gun. The struggle may have been for MB to get the gun away from OW (if OW was prior to that pointing the gun at him). The struggle may have been a physical fight just because the one or both of them were irritated, then the gun came out for OW to defend himself from the physical altercation.

It could have been any of the above or I'm sure there are countless other scenarios.

We do not know that MB was reaching for his gun or trying to get his gun.

And we might not ever know.
