I do not believe suing CMW will help the family find peace, but I applaud them in filing the motion to "freeze" any assets he may have at his disposal. If I were the family I may want to move away from that neighborhood as an example just for one. Being possibly overwhelmed and not being able to go to work to support themselves for who knows what period of time and so on.

What brings people peace, is different for every family. I can't begin to imagine how I would fine peace, if that happened to my daughter. Maybe, it doesn't bring peace. Perhaps, it helps them feel more justice. I support them doing whatever they feel is best for their family.

Do we know if any of this trial will be televised? I haven't understood based on the posts about court dates here....

Notice of Hearing on Media Request for Cameras in Courtroom During Preliminary Hearing; Electronic Filing Certificate of Service. FILED. /KDG

This was posted today on mo.courts/casenet . I guess according to this the court will decide on the 10:00 docket whether they will allow cameras and such. As far as it being televised, I believe that is further down a long road, probably after possible change of venue etc. But it does appear to me that he will be personally in court and not appear by video. There is a lot of controversy and debate over the lawsuit on FB. It's kind of weird, thinking that 9000 people attended the vigil, there was huge community support, and now you have people calling the parents "greedy" and out for "blood money" and how they just want it for drugs, vacations, and a new TV. It's always said that we build people up, and then tear them down, which is exactly what you can see happening here. I also imagine people are going to be even more negative and nasty about this, by the time it is actually heard, which could be 3+ years away, because emotions won't be as raw.

There is a March 15, 2014 article addressing the MO Amber Alert protocol and how to possibly improve it with "Hailey's Law". To try and eliminate the three page written report that has to be filled out and faxed to MHP.
snipped for space
"In the past three weeks, more than 20,000 people have “liked” the Hailey’s Law Facebook page, which encourages people to reach out to their legislators and push for change.

Site administrators and those behind the website are not listed. Those involved request anonymity because they insist they want to keep the focus on Hailey’s case and on the need for improvements.

“The intent of Hailey’s Law is to push the Missouri legislature and possibly the Nation to examine the red-tape on Amber Alerts …” the website says.

The proposed change suggests that a police agency contact the Highway Patrol and local media within 15 minutes of a verified child abduction."

In the newspaper article it shows a picture of him with a shaved head.

I am wondering when other charges will be filed. This was the news we have all been afraid we would have to find out. I believe they should add all additional charges possible before the trial begins so the jury gets the whole big nasty disgusting picture.

It sounds like they are waiting for the' full' autopsy report before or if they file additional charges.

Where is the link to the statements regarding "greed" or "blood money"? I am in hopes that any of that conversation stay away from getting justice for Hailey. It would be nice to keep money out of that equation.

The same dang thing happened when a collection was taken up for the parents of ten-year-old Pamela Butler, who was kidnapped and killed in a very similar scenario (broad daylight, people trying to give chase) in Kansas City, Kansas in 1999. The mom used part of the money to move away from the neighborhood where it happened, and people groused about that.

I lived there at the time and remember that well.

Just sitting here wishing Hailey could be riding her bike today in the sunshine with her friends. And, also thinking that it's a shame CMW will ever see a ray of sunlight again.

There are a couple of posts written by Hailey's parents on the Hailey Owens Memorial FB site. I thought very interesting that the Greene County jail where CMW is housed that the inmates there write letters to the family expressing their condolences, etc. Then when one gets released they hand deliver them.

And also the Farmington Mo prison has made a little garden there to made a nice sedate park and asked the family to come there for the dedication. I thought it was interesting and touching.

It tells me that once convicted, he will not spend his time in peace and tranquility. He will be in hell before he even gets there, IMO.

wow. We always hear in every single case about how criminals have a status structure and child killers rapists were the lowest on that structure.

I have never actually heard of anything like this. Where actual prisoners housed behind bars are writing the parents of a murdered child to express sympathy and empathy for them.

just wow.
