I am so glad this trial is coming up. This is one I believe HLN should show gavel to gavel (less the commercials of course). The public should get full view of the animals that still prey on our children in the US. Also the full version of Hailey's Law has not been passed and enacted still at this point, which is inexcusable at this point. Through our scanner threads (THANKS TO MONITORS) in the basement here at WS, we knew before the public who this creep was before the Amber Alert went out.

I was not aware what Ake_v_Oklahoma was referencing was so I found a link.

Ake v. Oklahoma, 470 U.S. 68 (1985), was a case in which the Supreme Court of the United States held that an indigent criminal defendant had a right to have the state provide a psychiatric evaluation to be used in the defendant's behalf if he needed it.[1]

So IMO this is the beginning of the "I was crazy" defense.

Bringing forth an older post of yours as it says what I feel after reading about all the motions, hearings, etc. you posted in previous posts.

There was only one crime scene, other than where Hailey was abducted. Test results and DNA done a long time ago. There isn't even a Court action on the docket for this case. The Defense requests a trial not before March of 2016. I understand they would like to delay as long as they can, but SERIOUSLY. They have had discovery for a LONG time.

I believe there should be laws to protect victim's families from having to endure such things. Or at least Judges that will not stand for it.

I guess you are right because that's about the only defense they can use since there were witnesses that saw him abducting her and her body was found hidden in his basement. What a waste of time and money.

Hailey Owens' family keeping her memory alive two years later

It will be two years Thursday since Hailey Owens was taken away from her family and friends. But despite her kidnapping and murder, her memory is still very much alive.

Of course Hailey Owens' family is missing her and this week is especially rough, but just like at this playground, her memory is very much alive.

The day Hailey Owens was kidnapped from her west Springfield neighborhood and many months after are a fog for her family. But the support surrounding them after her murder was overwhelming.

"I still can't explain the feeling to walk out and hear that many people chanting her name," said stepfather Jeff Barfield at a news conference with reporters on Wednesday afternoon.

From the time she was taken until now, Hailey's smiling face has spread through the community.

Craig Michael Wood defense wants evidence thrown out

Today, he will motion to suppress evidence and statements in court.

These include:

Statements and evidence made by him to police and his father on February 18th and the morning of February 19th back in 2014.

His lawyers also want to suppress all evidence collected in result of those statements on those days.

As well as all evidence, descriptions and testimony from the search on Wood's pick up truck and home.

Craig Wood claims his arrest was illegal. He says he was questioned before he was read his Miranda Rights. He also claims his house was searched without a warrant or probable cause.

In this article it says that CW took the stand in March and admitted he was high on meth when he killed Hailey. What a .

And to think, he was in the school system supervising and coaching children.

Springfield Public Schools say Wood worked full time as a teaching assistant supervising in-school suspension and as a coach at Pleasant View Elementary and Middle School and made about $17,000 last year.
