That's probably true about the wooded areas as the county (to my knowledge) has been growing. Springtime weather also tends to uncover what's been hidden by the winter. Having lived in the KC area my entire life, the surprising thing isn't where these people are being found but the rising crime rate. I can't remember ever hearing so often about violent crime and bodies being found. The last I read, the KC metro area is just about on par with St. Louis and Chicago for being the city with the most homicides in the US.

That is some crazy stats

We should just hire mushroom hunters to replace incompetent detectives. Can't argue with their success rate of finding human remains.

Sorry to jump in and ask, will read back a bit, but why is identification taking so long?

It was reported that only a partial skull was found. We don't know if any other bones were found that went with that partial skull. Apparently there is no marrow in the skull so DNA cannot be easily extracted and if they don't have teeth (which we don't know if they do or don't), then they can't use dental records or try to extract DNA from a tooth.

The remains are likely very degraded due to time and their location and exposure to the elements.

A few pages back, I posted an explanation with several links about the condition of the remains and info on DNA testing. Kara's mother stated to the media that the skull would need to be tested for mitochondrial DNA. http://www.kansascity.com/news/local...143471034.html

The need to test for mtDNA means that the remains are too degraded to retrieve a good nuclear DNA sample for testing. I'm bringing the rest of my links on this forward in case you are interested in reading more.

Kara's mother also said that they mentioned lab backlog to her. Here's a link discussing forensic lab backlog: https://nij.gov/topics/forensics/lab...s/welcome.aspx

Crime Watch Daily had Kara and Jessica's case today as part of their show. They interviewed the moms and Jessica's little sister spoke on camera for the first time. Their moms are both so strong and an amazing support for each other. I hope Kara's remains are officially identified sooner than the timeframe given.

Thanks for the links! I too hope the remains are identified very soon. It would be nice if it could happen by the ten year anniversary of her disappearance, but that's probably a long shot. If a long wait is needed, I hope it doesn't go out beyond the trial date for the burning of the car. Kara's mother had mentioned forensic backlog in one of those links after they found the girls, and without a good nuclear DNA source, it'll probably be a while. I'm hoping that since the FBI is assisting in the investigation, their resources can help to speed things along.

Hoping identifications comes soon and justice is served swiftly.

These poor families.

Does anyone know if there is enough evidence against KY to convict him when KK DNA comes back positive? I have been following this case since Sept and I read somewhere (can't find it now) that all they were looking for was remains/DNA to put KY away. I'm not sure how true this is and I can't seem to find any articles. Does anyone have ideas?

Boy does he look like his brother. On his FB he reverses his name from JC to CJ. Only one picture of him with his brother Kyler though. Hmm.

Since there now appears to be a connection with JC to Jessica's disappearance are we permitted to sleuth him?

Wonder if JC & KY the only persons in the car, seems odd for KY to be in the backseat if it was only the two of them

Believe that is what they call "Ridi'n DIRTY"

I also wonder how they found KY. Could he have been laying down so he wasn't spotted by passing vehicles looking for JR? Pretty suspicious that he fled like he did. Almost like he knew something and was scared the officers pulling him over did too. hmmm.
