Khighla Parks is missing
Authorities in Benton County have contacted their colleagues in Greene County about a missing teenager from Greene County who could possibly be connected to a weighted-down, female body that was recovered from Truman Lake on Sunday (09-30-12.)
Yes, theyve contacted us, Arnott said. Theyre looking at several missing person reports.
One of those missing persons authorities are considering is Khighla Parks, a 15-year-old girl from Willard who was last seen near the roundabout at the Springfield-Branson Regional airport on September 20th. Parks has run away previously and "ran with a fast crowd," according to her grandmother.
Bonnie Adams, who is Khighla's grandmother, says she has provided authorities with a hair and toothbrush belonging to Khighla and they are awaiting word on whether or not the remains found belong to their missing loved one. "The waiting is excruciating," said Adams.
Arnott says it's still too early to know if Parks is the victim found near Warsaw.
Authorities say the death of the young woman, who is described as 13 to 20 years old and roughly 5 feet, 8 inches tall, is definitely a homicide. Parks is approximately 5 feet, nine inches, according to Adams
Arnott says the turnaround for DNA determination is a fairly quick process "depending on how fast the Highway Patrol can get the DNA in the lab."
