Suspect in Savannah Leckie homicide to be released after 'developments' in case

A suspect in the killing of 16-year-old Savannah Leckie will be released from jail on GPS monitoring.

Robert Peat Jr., 31, who is charged with first-degree murder and other felonies in connection with the girl's death was ordered to be released on his own recognizance at a hearing Thursday in Greene County.

Prosecutor Steven Kretzer with the Attorney General's Office requested that Peat be released as the state looks into some new developments in the case.

"The case has had some developments in the last couple of weeks," Kretzer said.

If I was a citizen of that state I would be outraged, since he still has the murder charges. Those charges were not withdrawn. It is shocking to me. The only thing that I can think is that he is going to testify against his wife and the charges with be downgraded or dismissed after he does so to the satisfaction of the State. If that is not the case, then I don't know how to feel about the justice system.
