Humbling? Wow. When I think of the courage of abuse survivors, the first words that come to mind are admirable, inspiring, respectable, incredible strength. JUST AN OPINION from a survivor.

I will not speak for SCM because she is articulate and eloquent enough on her own; like her the strength of the survivors I have known has humbled me. It speaks to the incredible resilience of the human spirit, and makes me realize how completely and utterly superficial it is to worry about a bad hair day or weight issues when there are those out there who walk with grace after living a nightmare.

Family: Mo. child sex abuse claims are `repulsive'

LEXINGTON, Mo. (AP) -- Family members of five men charged in a bizarre child sex abuse case reacted with disbelief and sadness Thursday to the "unspeakable" string of alleged atrocities spanning two decades.

"It's unspeakable. I can't think of words that would put this in perspective. I find it repulsive if it's true," said Darrel Mohler, a brother of one of the five men charged

...........................snip...............................

Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested a sixth suspect late Thursday, a 55-year-old man from Kansas City. The man is suspected in the rape of a child less than 14 years old, the highway patrol said in a statement. The suspect is an "associate" of the Mohler family, the statement said.

............................snip.....................

Merrill Clark, 63, a cousin of Burrell Mohler Sr.'s, said he attended the men's hearing hoping to get a sense "of their guilt or innocence."

"But I went away not much better than I was before," said Clark, of Lenexa, Kan. "Burrell looks like a broken old man. ... His hearing aid wasn't turned up quite enough. He never looked at me."

Clark said he did, however, make eye contact with David Mohler.

"I wanted to cry, and he appeared to be about the same way," Clark said. "But again, was he glad to see me for support, or was he embarrassed to see me? I can't really believe it. But I know it could be true."

................................snip.........................

Cpl. Bill Lowe of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said Thursday that about 50 law enforcement officials are involved in the case, and that several leads have come in since the arrests Tuesday.

This may be way off base and it concerns a possible victim so I'll try to be careful....<snip>....

Personally, I am very uncomfortable with any of us speculating about who the victims might be.

If the victims want to make their faces, names, and/or relationship to the perps known, then that is their own perogative, not mine.

I totally agree. I wish they would remove old cases from CaseNet. One of the alleged victims, who is still a minor, is named.

This is worth noting, so there are other brothers beside the 4 and they are not involved. Interesting and notable. Or I suppose he could be Sr's brother.

Didn't this particular alleged victim's father give an interview with the news media complete with pictures and court documents? If we are talking about the same person, removing from casenet would not do a lot of good at this point.

I moved this post to the PL, following 's request. (Sorry, , didn't see your post till after I had already typed this up.)

Paximus--It's my understanding that Darrel is Burrell Mohler Sr.'s brother. He would be the younger mens' uncle.

"Darrel Mohler, brother of Burrell Mohler Sr., said Thursday that he hasn't seen his brother for years and the two were never close. "I'm 72, and this kind of struck me right in the gut," he said."

I am having a hard time not believing that the religious upbringing of this family had something to do with at least justifying their alleged actions with these kids.

Although the Mormon faith (and their breakaway sects) have changed their position on polygamy, we all know of families and enclaves that still hold onto this practice and marrying off their young children to older elders at an early age. The case in El Dorado Texas comes to mind. And yes, the mothers of this bunch thought nothing wrong with the groups actions.

It is very hard for me to imagine that four brothers would all, forgive me, be born pedophiles and child rapists, without any pangs of guilt. Something had to justify their actions in their own minds...if in fact the charges are true.

I am by no means an expert....just trying to make some sense out of nonsense.

Those things come to my mind too, and whenever I am in the presence of such admirable, inspiring, respectable and incredible strength, I feel deeply humbled because I lack those qualities in areas of my own life. I am always humbled in the presence of living light.

That's just me!

IMO Religon had zero to do with it except the way it was twisted and used by the perps.

Waterlooinspector--Check out post #152 on this thread. This is a case that happened in Oregon with some similarities. There's also a church connection. I'm not saying that there's any direct connection to a particular church but the comments on this blog and the previous blog post you can link to from it are interesting.

I found another article about the Miller case out of Oregon:

http://trib.com/news/state-and-regional/article_3a388056-b8f9-5ec5-9fa9-785e51355e0f.html

See some similarities:

"Statements from several of the children indicated that sexual contact between them occurred on a regular basis within the home, police said.
A search of the home Monday produced evidence supporting the children's' claims, according to police. Detectives found pornographic pictures, movies, marital-aid devices and the wedding dress reportedly worn by the 15-year-old girl, police said."

"They asked if Larry was here and I said yes," Crisson said.

Nearly an hour later, Kidd was in handcuffs and on his way to Lafayette County.

"Larry has been outstanding in the community," Crisson said.

Crisson said he cannot understand this possible connection between Kidd and the case.

"The man is awesome," Crisson said. "I consider him one of my best friends, this has taken me by surprise. He has never showed any inclination in that regard ever."

...

FOX 4 has learned at Kidd's been in and out of the jail for drug abuse and burglary, but close friends said he has spent the past 11 years turning his life around.

He also said in the article:
""I didn't have any contact with any other family members except Ed Mohler, Jr. and I tried my best to keep track of him because of third party threats he had on me," Young said."

3rd party threats? Were they threatening the families of victims?

Maybe the 3rd party was his friend Larry ?

I wonder how many men Jr 'married' his daughters off to ?

Outstanding in the community ? Turned his life around the past 11 years ?

That explains his last conviction for burglary was in 2007. Maybe they should check out his 'best friend' too.

Crisson has to know this too as Kidd was living at the Crisson's home at the time of the 2007 conviction.
I checked the address on casenet on Jackson County prop record's website and it's owned by someone with the same last name.

Yeah - outstanding & awesome....I wish the reporter had asked Crisson for examples of Kidd's "awesomeness" & what about him is so "outstanding".

My first instinct reading Crisson's statements is that it was a little over the top-- but I also accept the fact that the media often 'edits' information...so who knows what Crisson may have said....just seemed hokey to me the way it was presented. JMOOOOC.

Sometimes, someone like this who has turned his life around feels more like coming clean than maintaining a deception, so perhaps some answers will arise....

I have a question. Paximus, you might know this. I just started a thread about a perp here in Oregon who got 50 years for raping his two toddlers. His original bail was set at 13.9 million. I've wondered, as many have, why the bail is so low on the six perps in Missouri. I understand that it's a cash bail. But, if one of them looked as if he was going to bail, could the prosecutors run back to the judge and get the bail raised? Just wondering. I'm greatly worried about the safety of the victims.

Alleged victims, excuse me.
