general comment, directed at nobody in particular - there is a reason facebook and twitter rumors arent allowed on here. as usual there is a ton of incorrect information and speculation being repeated as fact out there.
Being someone who has posted regarding a twitter account. I'd like to note a few things that we have factually learned from the twitter account that we possibly could not have known from anywhere else.
Forget about the guy spouting off about what he knows and sources, which I agree are rumors and get labeled as such.
We factually have seen on twitter timeline the person missing tweeting out an image of a google search yielding the link "how to disappear completely" that has 10 steps as to what you should do if that is your goal.
We factually have a boyfriend that is obsessed about money and tweeted about discussing "money schemes" with his girlfriend.
The second is more vague and so I don't take it as seriously. But the first, I cannot simply unsee. I have seen a number of individuals who are alarmed by the bf's tweet more than toni's tweet about the wikihow. I find her tweet more alarming as this situation is looking alot like what one might do... to disappear.
Now we have a boyfriend who has removed his twitter account and yielded control of a acct to the mother of toni.
Whether we like it or not, social media is a part of many people's lives these days and you can see how things that are so blatantly obvious about their lives by one stroll down a twitter timeline is being reported by legit media outlets as false. I'll not go into the details about that, but I dare say I've seen more incorrect information from the media than from the twitter timeline of toni and her bf.
Suppose in her search history the police had found that wikihow about how to disappear? Or a printed out version on her desk?
Or what if they found her journal/diary and it noted she read a link about how to disappear?
Would they discard that clue?
I think seeing with my own eyes on toni's timeline that she posted about a website that tells you how to disappear completely is something I'd trust more than the police or media at this point. I've seen more than a few reasons to not trust the accuracy of their information.
Lastly on the topic of why facebook and twitter isn't allowed. It's not because of rumors from my understanding, but rather privacy. Here is the rules :
Links may be used to direct members to posts made by a victim or a suspect.
Copying and pasting, or taking screen caps, directly from these pages is not allowed.
**Paraphrasing is okay.**
Posts by friends and visitors are off limits.
Do not link to an individual’s (victim or suspect) social media page if you are not 100% certain it belongs to the correct individual.
If a social media page is set to private and you get in the back way, you may not post what you find. Private means private!
Nothing is meant to deter rumors.
This is not meant to create an argument, but rather to explain that I think that ignoring social media in this day and age is similar to discarding someone's diary/journal as that is very similar to how it's used by many folks nowadays.
In chicago there was a group of kids torturing a disabled person on facebook live.
Social media discoveries are something we should weight appropriately given the full context of evidence, but not disregard. I'd surely hope the police didn't just choose to not discuss anything they saw on social media. God almighty, I hope they actually scour it as many of us have.
For example, might someone say that Toni's post about steps to disappear be seen as a subtle cry for help? People don't try to disappear unless there is some kind of drastic reason. Could it have been a joke? possibly. But given the context of what we know so far, I simply see it as something to note as **not crazy** and just as valuable as anything we have heard from police -- which has been sketchy at best.
