I don’t like the medication information I’m seeing. It makes me feel it caused her to act out by breaking down her ability to restrain herself. I can’t help feeling that the medication played a role and was a big factor in the commission of the crime. She is after all a child.Sorry long post but this is a tragedy.
This 14 year old child was apparently taking a powerful antidepressant medication ESCITALOPRAM, which is not recommended for treatment of Major Depressive Disorder in children under 12 years.
In my view, the body & brain of a 14 year old is really not much different from that of a 12 year old. Every person is different.
I hope this medication had been prescribed after careful assessment by a psychiatrist experienced in adolescent mental health.
It is known to be associated with increased suicidal ideation, increased aggression/anger/violence and acting on aggressive impulses, particularly when medication is started or the dosage changed.
If you want to see the evidence of please read on. I am a retired medical practitioner and my opinion is backed up with relevant links below. I’ve picked out the points that I feel may be pertinent to this case.

I wonder if CG's legal team will continue to present her in the little-school-girl modest attire throughout trial? While I fully understand why defense attorneys often have their clients dress and modify hair styles, etc. to portray a more "innocent" look... I really, really don't like it. jmo

I wonder why she was prescribed Escitalopram, why there was a medication change a week prior -although some preteens and teens really need medications -- and most of all, how she was able to access a gun while undergoing mental health treatment?
If I were on the jury, there are so many factors I'd want to know. Besides the above -- what could a motive have been? What did she say during questioning afterwards? What did she say to other relatives afterwards, if she spoke to any? What else did she tell the friend she invited over?

When I was 14/15, I was put on Prozac. It seriously messed me up. I was already struggling and it made me have a mental breakdown. Nothing as serious as this crime, but it makes sense to me that the medication could do this. I am not excusing her behavior, but I do hope that she receives proper mental health treatment.Sorry long post but this is a tragedy.

To add: I am now almost 30 and I have been on many different antidepressants since I was 14/15. Being on the correct medication for you is a game changer.
Another add: I do however not understand the degree of anger it would take to murder/attempt to murder your parents. Personally, all of my destructive urges were taken out on myself, not my family. JMO
