The worst tragedy is this lady lived 81 years only to die in such a horrendous manner ~ likely because she befriended the wrong person. :furious:

Rest in Peace, Ethel :rose:

Sex perverts CANNOT be fixed, treated, rehabilitated! Why, why, why are these monsters allowed to have do-overs? How many times are they released early and end up killing someone? Spitting mad!

I'm confused...why would it take 4-5 days to get from Vermont to Mississippi??? I haven't seen anything about his whereabouts in the days before he was in Mississippi on September 13 but he had time to be in Vermont as well.

Pat went missing Friday September 10 or early September 11.

Even if he left Vermont 12+ hours later, Saturday night, he still had more than 36 hours and could have easily been in Mississippi by Monday morning. (Unless there is construction or weather I am unaware of???)

He was seen in Mississippi in the afternoon on September 13th. Ethel went missing later in the day Monday September 13.

The police insist Ethel's case is an isolated incident... so apparently he's not involved. However, he definitely had TIME to be in both places.

I thought LE had been saying this wasn't an isolated incident and they now even suspect him of killing his aunt?

Also, I meant he had four or so days to get to MS, not that it would take that long. Sorry for the confusion!

Could someone please PM me or hit the alert button once this perp is arrested for Ethel's murder? TY.

I can't help wondering about those unsolved murders of the elderly in MS-was he in prison then? Does anyone remember that 48 Hr show "Ghosts of Mississippi" Or recall these cases?

Hopefully that will come as soon as we have a positive ID. Thought that would happen today, but looks like we're still waiting.

I wonder which state will get to put him on trial first. Our local sheriff (Hinds County, MS) stated in the linked article that he really hopes we get first crack at him, and I agree. That's just my selfish inclination, though, since I tend to take Miss Ethel's case more personally (my hometown). As long as he stays locked up where he belongs, I suppose it doesn't really matter.

Sorry, the first one Pat O'Hagan...they immediately came out and said she had been abducted but it was an isolated incident.

Ok so if I am reading the article right he is not only being questioned about Ms. Simpson, but also the death of a relative and the stabbing of a man that showed him property all around the same time frame, as well as a older case for the disappearance of Virginia Ratliff, 83.

Why in the heck was this man even let out of prison ! He only served a little over 3 years of his ten year sentence, and now we have 2 people dead, one in serious condition.

I will never understand our system, I know there is overcrowding but if we would just off the worst of the worst instead of keeping them alive we wouldn't have a overcrowding problem and perhaps less crime if they knew the could die for it !

Prayers ..................

He served 5 years in prison and released on probation for the next 15 years, you know why I didn't know he was a SO? because he didn't registar and no one ever did anything about it.. he was not even charged for failing to register..... Like I said this is Alabama and they don't care!!!!!!!!!!!

Just hitting the "thanks" button wasn't enough. I am so terribly sorry for what happened to you and your babies. Thank you for sharing. Many of us are infuriated when things like this happen, but we cannot imagine the anger and pain that your family has been through. I sincerely hope that you and yours will somehow, some way, be able to heal and gain strength from this.

YES. And we use it. Not as often as, say, Texas. But it definitely happens.

The man believed to be responsible for the kidnapping and beating death of 81-year-old Clinton woman Ethel Simpson is now facing charges of capital murder, Hinds County authorities said.

Hinds County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Jeffrey Scott said James Cobb Hutto, 39, of Alabama, is being detained in Alabama, where he was arrested Friday driving Simpson’s Mercedes.

“We understand there was a bond placed on him, and we will fax our warrants to Alabama and place a hold on him,” he said. “It’ll be up to conferencing between the states to see who gets first shot at him.”

Dental records confirmed Monday that the body of a woman found on a hog farm in Edwards off Mississippi 22 Friday was that of Simpson. The elderly woman was last seen on Sept. 13 at Riverwalk Casino in Vicksburg wearing a red shirt and khaki pants and in the company of Hutto, a convicted sex offender and kidnapper.

Mississippi recently had two executions back-to-back giving the impression that the state executes a lot of people, but, really, Mississippi is kind of an aberration for statistics of the south, with only Tennessee having fewer executions (of southern states) than Mississippi. Even Ohio, Arizona, Delaware, and Indiana have more executions than Mississippi since 1976.

Here's a list of Mississippi executions:

http://www.mdoc.state.ms.us/mississippi_and_the_death_penalt.htm

Since 1976, the state has only executed 13 people vs. 463 in Texas.

Am I reading that right, Alabama placed a bond on him? WTH.
