"Mystery Man" solved -- Willie Taylor. The car tag from concerned first responders was indeed traced, and person(s) involved cleared by LE. Taylor's wife had heard about the fire and could not reach her daughter by phone. Since she lived near the scene, she was concerned about her well-being. So she sent her husband to check on things. The reason he was distracted and unresponsive to the FF's at the scene is because he was only concerned about his daughter and nothing else. His wife will be asked to testify to this, since he is an over-the-road trucker and is not in town. I believe she was added to the list of witnesses this (Thurs) morning, before the jury was brought in by the Judge. Maj. Barry Thompson was then called as today's first witness, to provide an explanation about the morning's "field trip" by the jury, court officers, and press to the crime scene and related stops. This info gleaned from Therese Apel (Clarion-Ledger) twitter feed.

Hey folks! Today @rmaxey1 is in the courtroom until field trip time, so I'll be live tweeting until we go to see the key places in the investigation. We won't be allowed to tweet or use our phones during the field trip, but we will have full coverage after the fact.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
I'll be covering the field trip tonight where officials will be recreating the scene where #JessicaChambers was found by bringing in all the emergency vehicles and responders to show the jury what it was like that night.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
Another bit of housekeeping: I just briefly watched a smug commentator who is not from here talking about the trial and she had a good number of her facts messed up. I finally turned her face off because she was making me angry. Trust your local media first please.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
Defense just objected to the site visit to the crime scene, along with some witnesses he said are not relevant. Prosecution is responding now.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
DA John Champion says witnesses are extremely relevant. He says proximity of the site visits to the homes of Julia Chambers and her daughter are also relevant because it shows the proximity to Tellis' sister's home where the prosecution says Tellis picked up the car to get gas.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
As to objection to the night recreation, Champion says it's relevant because the jury needs to be aware of the noises that were surrounding the responders that night.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
The witness the defense objected to: ADA Jay Hale says defense was aware of her because prosecution had included her in a slide show. It's the wife of the "mysterious stranger" who was seen at the scene. Authorities had identified him, but that wasn't made clear last year.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
Hale said tag taken at the scene went back to Willie Taylor, an over the road trucker who is out of town today. His wife is the witness. She was home with grandson. Her daughter lives next to the burn site. She couldn't reach her daughter and she sent her husband to check on it.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
He drove down there to see. Their daughter was fine.

Would explain why he paid little attention to the first responders and had a weird look on his face if he was worried that it could be his daughter at the scene.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
Alton Peterson is not satisfied with that.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
Hale said tag was run that night. That info wasn't pertinent until the "mysterious stranger" became an issue in the last trial. Prosecutors didn't foresee him being such a major player in the first trial and in the media and social media.

Judge overrules objection against showing jury where hitchhiker was picked up. OVerrules motion against showing where he was dropped off.
Overrules motion against showing homes of Hinson and Julia Chambers.
Reserving judgment on recreation of scene until he can look into it.

(cont'd) Taking under advisement allowing wife of mysterious stranger.
Overruling the objection to site visit to where keys were found.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
Judge brings the jury in. Makes small talk about dinner last night, etc. Asks if anybody has discussed the case with anyone else. Answer is no.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
Prosecution calls Maj. Barry Thompson of Panola Co. Sheriff's Department. As major over the PCSO investigative division, he led the local aspect early in the case. Lives in Courtland.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
Thompson was out of town on Dec. 6, 2014, but testifies that he stayed on the phone with investigators, Sheriff Darby, and Civil Defense Director Daniel Cole until he got home.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
Starting Monday and throughout the week, offers for help came in from the ATF, FBI, DOJ, USMS, MBI, etc., Thompson said.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
Maj. Thompson tells ADA Hale about the areas on the site visit that will be taken shortly.

Keep in mind that the jury has not laid eyes on so many of these places that have been discussed, so there are points that could still be extremely confusing. Today's site visit coupled with the timeline that will probably be presented by the prosecution should help clarify.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
Thompson points out where Sherry Flowers picked up the "hitchhiker" that the prosecution hopes to show was Tellis.

‏Verified account @TRex21 3h3 hours ago
Explains areas we'll see, but right now it would be kind of pointless to tweet about them because they may not make sense in 280 character increments just yet. The jury will be allowed to get out and get a feel of the area, weather permitting.

‏Verified account @TRex21 2h2 hours ago
The cross examination and redirect will take place at the scene, the judge says. The court will now go depart for the sites.

‏Verified account @TRex21 15m15 minutes ago
We’re headed back to the courthouse now, and will probably do a lunch break next. We visited several key places and will have further testimony this afternoon.

OK, about a half hour until we crank up today’s coverage. I’ll be in the courtroom for some testimony this morning, then we’re scheduled to take a field trip to the crime scene. Lots going on today. Follow us @memphisnews and @clarionledger. #JessicaChambers

Field trip is over and we should be back in communication shortly, after court breaks for lunch. Bear with us, folks. @memphisnews @clarionledger #JessicaChambers

OK, folks, look for a full story on this morning’s field trip soon as I can crank it out. I’ll tell you for now that jurors saw about a half dozen sites, including where the burning #JessicaChambers was found. Testimony will resume at 1:45. @memphisnews @clarionledger

Colleague @TRex21 of @clarionledger will be in the courtroom for afternoon testimony while I write about the field trip. @memphisnews

One more thing before I write — that potential witness intimidation incident yesterday? Panola Sheriff Dennis Darby says it turned out to be an individual known to local authorities, but no reason to think it was intimidation. #JessicaChambers @memphisnews @clarionledger

#JessicaChambers - First stop was the site where Jessica was on fire/car. #QuintonTellis was extremely nervous, hands shaking, wiping his forehead, but it wasn't raining.

Cathy Russon‏ @cathyrusson 27m27 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers - Next stop was where Jessica's keys were found on the side of the road.

Cathy Russon‏ @cathyrusson 23m23 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers - The 3rd stop was where Flowers said she picked up the unknown male. It was about 1/2 mile from where the keys were and 300 feet from the fire department

Cathy Russon‏ @cathyrusson 16m16 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers - I had the stops numbered wrong in my previous tweets. Just know that we went there. :-)

Cathy Russon‏ @cathyrusson 14m14 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers - Jurors saw the spot where Flowers said she dropped off the unknown male at his aunt's house that may have caught on fire. Tellis' sister's house is right in that area.

Cathy Russon‏ @cathyrusson 8m8 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers - We stopped at the M&M store where Jessica and Quinton were seen on security footage several times that day. Across the street and a little to the south is Tellis' home.

Cathy Russon‏ @cathyrusson 5m5 minutes ago
#JessicaChambers - The jury moved to the driveway of Tellis' home. In the front was the shed where Tellis said he kept gas. It looked more like a really small house than a shed. The home was behind, it's a single wide trailer.

I really wish they would have cleared this up at the last trial. It totally makes sense now and it’s nice to know there’s not another potential suspect out there as the first trial sort of left us to believe.

In Panola County, MS for day three of testimony in #QuintonTellis retrial in #JessicaChambers murder case. Today, jurors are scheduled to go on a site visit of areas relevant to crime. As always, there'll be live tweets and live stream and updates on @LocalMemphis mobile app.

Brad Broders‏ @Local24Brad 3h3 hours ago
Proceedings and @LocalMemphis live stream underway. Tellis defense attorney starts day by claiming testimony by woman Wednesday who claimed to pick up a man night of #JessicaChambers crime was prejudicial to Tellis because she did NOT identify Tellis as person she gave ride to.

Prosecution argues the two places tied to woman's Wednesday testimony IS relevant to today's planned jury site visit. #QuintonTellis #JessicaChambers

Judge OVERRULES most of the defense's motions tied to today's site visit connected to witness testimony Wednesday and how they play into today's proceedings. Jury now being brought in. #QuintonTellis #JessicaChambers

Some points of interest include residence of Shaneeka Williams, M&M Grocery and #QuintonTellis residence that was across the street from grocery store. Those will be shown during today's site visit for jury, who will walk out & gauge these areas on visit (weather permitting).

Brad Broders‏ @Local24Brad 3h3 hours ago
Live stream is off for now on @LocalMemphis website because jurors are now going on the site visit. I'll let you know when things are back up in the courtroom.

Brad Broders‏ @Local24Brad 34m34 minutes ago
Just wrapped up 9 stops on jury site visit in #QuintonTellis retrial. It included a new stop: the location Sherry Flowers testified an "unidentified black man" asked for a ride not far from where #JessicaChambers was found burnt alive.

Brad Broders‏ @Local24Brad 13m13 minutes ago
Lunch break now that jurors have returned from site visit. Testimony scheduled to pick up again at 1:45 in #QuintonTellis retrial. #JessicaChambers

I just actually watched a show on youtube about this case, and saw about the mistrial. Googling it made me realize he's actually on re-trial at the moment. I hope this time the jurors understand that the verdict has to be UNANIMOUS.

I hope the Jurors know what UNANIMOUS means. Verdict Day was a complete "shambles" in the first trial, simply because the Jurors did not understand what the word "UNANIMOUS" meant. Most of us following here, if not all of us, were shocked to the core.
