Olivia Jade, Lori Loughlin’s Daughter, Stands to Lose Brand Deals Over College-Admissions Scandal

HP has already cut its ties with Olivia Jade. In a statement, the company said, “HP worked with Lori Loughlin and Olivia Jade in 2017 for a one-time product campaign. HP has removed the content from its properties.” A post promoting HP’s Sprocket photo printer is currently still live on Olivia Jade’s Instagram account.

Olivia Jade Giannulli had also cut brand deals with partners including Amazon, Dolce & Gabbana, Lulus, Marc Jacobs Beauty, Sephora, Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics, Smile Direct Club, Too Faced Cosmetics, Boohoo, and Unilever’s TRESemmé.

Thank you for posting a partial list of the companies that also need to cut ties with OJG. And if they don't, I hope consumers will boycott them. (Yeah, I know, good luck with the Amazon behemoth. But, I can dream . . . .)

Disgusting actions by everyone who has a part in this scandal. Bottom-feeding scum.

USC interim President Wanda Austin said about six students linked with Singer's firm will be barred.

A USC statement said officials will also conduct a case-by-case review of current students and graduates tied to the allegations and "will make informed, appropriate decisions once those reviews have been completed."

The school has identified at least $1.3 million in donations from those involved in the scheme, and that money will be redirected to scholarships for underprivileged students.

But it's the $65 million that Singer took in that can't be turned into scholarships to support qualified students.

I can't help but wonder if there are other operations (other than Singer's) that did/does this kind of thing for parents and students. Where I live, there are private "college entrance prep advice" counseling services for hire offered galore. Trusting deeper investigation into others is underway....

Tip of 100 icebergs, I think

MANY of these parents really don't care about their kid's Education per se. They want their kids to have the best "Social Experience" they can. They want them to have the whole Sorority / Fraternity kinship thing. They want them "outta the house" and venturing out on their own. Just like the girls who got in on the boat "rowing" scholarship, when they had never touched a row. Those girls already have modeling gigs and others thanks to Mom. They are never going to use a college education. Stephens College here is one of three colleges. It has only been co-ed for a short time. It has been one of the most prestigious and oldest Women's Colleges in the US.

I wouldn't expect anything expeditious from USC

Look how long it took them to get rid of Dr. George Tyndall, the USC gynecologist who was abusing women students, inappropriately photographing their genitals and much more.

They let him practice for more than 10 years after the first allegations came out

A USC doctor was accused of bad behavior with young women for years. The university let him continue treating students

I think it's part of the "social experience" as well, but kids from these rich families have plenty of social experience, imo. One of these kids was on a yacht with friends - a dorm room party isn't filling in any missing gaps in her social life.

I think it's parental (false) pride. They don't want be the parent of a kid who didn't get in. If their kid gets in and drops out, that can kind of be laughed off because they at least proved they have kids who made into college. It's dumb because it's actually no shame not to make the admissions cut (especially if you keep trying), but it is a shame to cheat.

Agreed. It's ultimately about the parent and how they want others to view THEM. This case with Loughlin is a perfect example IMO- b/c they already have tons of money, jobs for the kids even. It's purely about image. Not the actual value of the USC education.

Related to that bottom line of image is maintaining a "network" for their kids/family. Rubbing elbows with people at USC ensures a long-lasting pool of continued connections. Again- all about image, and not the actual education.

MOO.

Does It Matter Where You Go To College? Some Context For The Admissions Scandal

To better understand this story, here are a few things to know about the fraught history of college admissions.

Just a fraction of U.S. students attend schools like these.

The majority of the schools targeted in this scheme are highly selective: The University of Texas takes four in 10 applicants, and Yale just 7 percent. Yet the average U.S. college accepts two out of three applicants. That means this demolition derby of highly competitive admissions just doesn't apply to most Americans.

Universities are tax-exempt and taxpayer supported through federal aid and, in the case of public institutions, state funding. That status is granted because they profess a public mission. Selective institutions justify effectively barring the masses because, they say, they admit students based on merit.

I think the point I have been trying to make here and couldn't get it made right is that these parents and countless others just happened to get busted because a couple actresses got busted along with the rest. Not only does this happen regularly, but their activities continue all the way through the "college experience" then in life as well. They really are not teaching their kids the most valuable things that you don't get in a college education. Those being self respect, decency and compassion for others among others. When you teach your kids to cheat in college, they will cheat and deceive their whole lives.

"A pair of Stanford University students are suing the colleges wrapped up in a nationwide admissions scandal — plus the scheme’s mastermind — claiming that the plot denied them a fair shot at entry to other elite schools."

Stanford students first to sue colleges named in admissions scandal

Interesting... on the surface it’s hard to feel too sorry for a couple of Stanford stdnts. On the other hand, since “the suit seeks class certification, which would open the door for other students with similar claims to join the case”, maybe some really deserving, high acheiving, kids who took their own SATs & helped their neighbors clean up after hurricaines & tornadoes can now get the spots that should have gone to them in the first place. A win would help keep scrutiny rightfully on admission practices.

An astute observation from my Twitter feed this morning: "ALL of these kids who got in under bogus credentials should be dismissed. If their parents had given them a stolen car, they wouldn't get to keep it would they?"

People Ask If The College-Cheating-Scam Actresses Will Be Jailed Like The Black Moms Who Used Fake Addresses To Send Kids to Better Schools

The college bribery scandal has outraged many who remember the Black mothers who were served jail time for lying about their addresses so their children could attend school in a better district.

In one particular 2012 instance, a homeless Connecticut mother was sentenced to five years for using a babysitter’s address so her son could attend a better elementary school. The state of Connecticut accused Tonya McDowell of stealing $15,686 worth of education from the city of Norwalk when her child should have been enrolled in Bridgeport school.

In 2011, Kelley Williams-Bolar, of Ohio, was also jailed for lying about her residency to send her child to a better school. In the end, Williams-Bolar was sentenced to 10 days in county jail and put on three years of probation. She was also required to perform community service.

IMO, the current bribe scandal only hit MSM bc 2 celebrity names are associated, otherwise no one would really care. And we look at the $500k payout and majority of us get incensed bc only the top earners in our society have that kind of money to throw away. That’s what we’re mad about.

The college application process has been flawed forever. Only the top % of HS students with extensive extra-curricular activities have a shot at top tier schools - unless they’re a side project of some philanthropic who wants to “help a kid in need”.

How about this: regardless of demographics, HS ranks, income, hardships and physical location — why don’t we go by test scores alone? Not sports ability or alumni status, not donations and coaches’ recommendations. The kids that want to go will have to work harder to get the grades and prove themselves. It may hurt mommy and daddy’s feelings that junior didn’t go to their alma mater, but parents need to stop living their kids’ lives for them . There are plenty of second and third tier options - we just don’t want to admit some of us have second and third tier kids, academically.

Why don’t they roll all that money into giving teachers higher salaries and bettering the education system our kids are growing up in to prepare them for what’s ahead? The whole, “if you teach a man to fish” thing...
