It was legal, but it was weird. She didn't adopt them from state foster care, it was a business that handled it, like a private foster care thing. It was legal, but they did not ever do any health checks after that


What gets me is she probably got ssi for both kids and that's what paid for her life smh.

In my country adoption process is lengthy and prospective parents have to "tick" all possible boxes to get this privilege.

And in case of vulnerable kids,
the bar is set even higher.

Everything is checked by Family Court.
Accommodation/material status/occupations/no criminal records, etc, etc.

Also, a single person has little chance for adopting a child.
Only families/married couples.

This repugnant case is simply unbelievable!!!

But the US appears (from the outside) to be very weird when it comes to adoption.

Yes, this does sometimes go wrong, unsurprisingly. The Nicole and Calvin Eason case involved a woman who had already had her own two bio kids removed on child protection grounds able to acquire more children via the private rehoming route. They sexually abused the children and are now serving 40 years.

If Trenton died in 2017 that makes him no older than 11 when he died. His DOB was 5/10/06. RIH Trenton. I will keep your siblings in my prayers, particularly the brother who was suicidal. I pray e gets all the support he needs to live a healthy life.

Could the cooler have been inside the barrel somehow? I should think a cooler would be too wide to fit in a burn barrel but it's the only scenario I can think of where both bodies could still be in the barrel with the cooler also involved.
I expected a sad outcome for this case but not quite this horrific

that's what I was wondering, poor reporting. Cooler and tools purchased with other minor family member forced to assist. Cooler used to transport dismembered remains to burn barrel on Beaver Dam Rd.

Avantae Deven is accused of murdering and concealing the deaths of Blake and London Deven, two of her five adopted children. She is charged with first-degree murder, concealment of death, kidnapping and felony child abuse. If convicted on the murder charges alone, she could face the death penalty.
Public documents show Blake, 17, was reported missing in January 2024 even though police did not publicly announce his disappearance until late March 2024. London was reported missing on April 4, 2024, years after she was last known to be living in Fayetteville. In April, Fayetteville police found partial skeletal remains in the search for Blake and London.

IMO per MSM The other family member was tasked by Avantae with disposing of the burn barrel on beaver dam road so the connection may be found through that person rather than Avantae directly. Perhaps the same friend as was enlisted to pretend to be Blake. MOO

case continued - Avantae didn't go to court this morning. bio mothers are having vigil in front of the Berridale home this afternoon.

There are two brightly colored crosses, bearing the names Trenton and Moriah, Blake and London’s original names, with bouquets of flowers on either side.

On Tuesday, the biological mothers of Blake and London posted a photo from outside of the Berridale Drive home, where investigators believe a lot of abuse happened, and where they said London was killed

The moms bared signs asking for justice for their children.

CBS17 has learned that NCDHHS is now investigating how Deven was able to adopt five children from across the state.

CBS17 is working to find out whether or not Deven received adoption assistance funds after Blake and London died.

Deven is set to be in court on Aug. 14.
