Lumberton roadblock aims to get info on missing child Hania Aguilar
Road-block canvas_1541519961192.jpg_61310499_ver1.0_640_360.jpg
The FBI says Lumberton police and North Carolina State Troopers hosted a roadblock Tuesday morning along Elizabethtown Road, just outside the Rosewood Mobile Home Park from where Aguilar was kidnapped.

FBI Public Affairs Specialist Shelley Lynch says the roadblock canvas targeted drivers who routinely travel the area and may have seen something that can help detectives located the missing teen. Drivers were shown a poster with pictures of Aguilar and a vehicle very similar to the one the kidnapper was last seen driving.

The FBI and Lumberton Police Department will host a news conference Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

The 911 call to report Hania’s abduction was made by a neighbor after a relative ran over to get help. The call came in to the Robeson County Communications Center at 6:54 in the morning on November 5, 2018. A female caller speaking Spanish was on the line, the Robeson County dispatcher quickly requested a Spanish translator to join the call. Initial reports during the 911 call described the abductor as a black male. During follow-up interviews, investigators determined the witness had not seen the race of the abductor because he was wearing all black, including long sleeves, and a yellow bandana over his face and it was still dark outside. The Lumberton Police Department received the call at 6:58 a.m. and immediately responded to the scene.

Hania's Mother asked the following statement be shared on her behalf to the community and to her daughter.

"I just want my daughter back with me. I am here waiting for you, I love you, and I only care about you and I don’t have anything against whoever did this to you. I just want you back."

If you see the stolen vehicle Hania was taken in, call 911. The Lumberton Police Department has set up a special tip line to call with information to find Hania. The tip line number is 910-272-5871.

The Amber Alert IS still active.

Reward offered, AMBER Alert still in effect for abducted Lumberton teen
An AMBER Alert remains in effect and authorities have set up a road block and are conducting door-to-door searches for a 13-year-old girl who was kidnapped from a front yard Monday morning in Lumberton.

After grabbing the child and forcing her into the stolen SUV, the man drove away. Aguilar was wearing a blue shirt with flowers and blue jeans. She is 5 feet tall and weighs approximately 126 pounds.

During a noon news conference on Monday, officials said they were checking area surveillance cameras and performing a door-to-door search.

According to the FBI, troopers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol were operating the road block Tuesday morning along Elizabethtown Road, just outside the mobile home park. Troopers showed drivers a missing poster with Aguilar's photo and directed some drivers to a nearby area to speak directly to a detective.

The goal of the road block was to identify people who travel that route daily and may have seen something, FBI officials said.

'Every second counts,' police chief says amid search for abducted teen
Hania grabbed her aunt's keys so she could turn on the car ahead of going to the bus stop for school when a family member saw a man dressed in all black with a yellow bandanna over his face approach the teen and force her into the car, police said. The suspect then stole the car and drove away with her, police said.

"Every second counts when a child is missing," Lumberton Police Chief Michael McNeill told reporters Tuesday. He said investigators are trying to speak with residents and visitors of the mobile home park.

Authorities said they were following nearly 50 leads as of Monday night.

There is no indication Hania was targeted, officials said.

“Witnesses can‘t describe the suspect other than he had a yellow bandana over his face. After grabbing the child, he forced her into the Green Ford Expedition and stole it and drove away,” police said, according to WPDE.

Lumberton Police Chief Michael McNeill said in a news conference Monday that a man dressed in all black with a yellow bandana abducted the girl.

The FBI said Tuesday that it was a neighbor who called 911 at 6:54 a.m. to report the kidnapping after a relative of Hania’s ran to the neighbor to get help.

The caller was speaking Spanish, and dispatchers brought a translator into the call, the FBI said. Lumberton police were notified four minutes later.

McNeill said the car was stolen from the scene and belonged to one of the Aguilar’s relatives.

Camera caught images of SUV moments after kidnapping of Lumberton teen :: WRAL.com
The Lumberton Police Department announced Wednesday that a surveillance camera captured images of the stolen SUV that Hania Noelia Aguilar, 13, was kidnapped on Monday.

Police did not name the exact location where the SUV was spotted but stated that the image was captured near the girl's home minutes after the kidnapping.

Police helicopters canvassed the area above the Rosewood Mobile Home Park for several hours on Tuesday, and Lumberton police questioned drivers entering the mobile home community as they searched for clues.

Several law enforcement authorities, including the Lumberton Police Department, Robeson County Sheriff's Office, FBI, FBI’s Child Abduction Rapid Deployment team, North Carolina SBI, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Rockingham Police Department, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Division of Community Corrections, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, are participating in the search for the girl.

De La Rocha said during the press conference that the FBI's Child Abduction Rapid Deployment team, or CARD, has been brought in to assist with the search.

He said Hania's family is "fully cooperating" to help find the missing girl.

Press Conference - November 7, 2018

Notes from the press conference, 3:30PM (EST) 11/7/18

Police Chief Michael McNeill…
  • The image recently released of the SUV was captured near HNA’s home minutes after the kidnapping Monday.
  • They’ve also found a second image on a different camera as well. It’s grainy, but it’s the same stolen SUV that she was forced into.
  • Those pictures help them, but they need evidence to find HNA and bring her home safe.
  • They are asking anyone in the Lumberton area who may have a camera, or video surveillance system, to save the video and contact them immediately at 910-272-5871.
  • Please call the special tip line if you have any footage at all. Call them, and they will come out and take the footage.
  • Call 911 if you see the stolen 2002 or 2003 (same body style) Ford Expedition with the SC license plate NWS-984.
FBI Agent Supervisor Andy Delarocha
  • They need to speak with anyone who lives in Rosewood Mobile Home Park, anyone who drove by, or has visited the area.
  • Please call them at the special tip line at 910-272-5871.
  • As a reminder, the FBI is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to the location of Hania.
FBI Special Agent Liza Vita

Some Q&A notes …

FBI Andy Delarocha
  • They’re not going into the exact locations of the surveillance still image. If they tell people, they don’t want to discourage people who may not be in those areas to share their own footage.
  • They are receiving tips and leads from the community. They are hopeful with the publication of a $15,000 reward will increase the calls coming into the tip-line.
  • They’re not excluding anyone in this investigation. He reminded that the family is fully cooperating with LE. They are not excluding any group of individuals as potential suspects in this investigation.
  • They have no reason to believe that she knows her abductor, either.
  • It’s been very important to work with families. There are things family’s know, to get their perspective and assessment of this situation, and anything they might be able to add.
