:blushing: OK, I am admitting I skipped out on trial around 10:30 this morning.
I HAD to watch the Sochi opening ceremonies. I get CBC Canada where I live, and they covered it live. NBC irks me to no end with their NON-Live coverage :banghead:

My impression was that Laura needed someone to help in the way that a family would help to support a single parent, and Grant was a mentally disturbed time bomb with suicidal tendencies and serious substance abuse issues waiting for an opportunity to act on delusions of grandeur. I'm stunned that the psychologist's recommendation was for joint custody with 2-2-3 shared parenting such that the children (which were apparently not all that settled) would bounce from home to home on a regular basis. I'm not a psychologist, but I think that is one of the worst recommendations that she could have made under the circumstances. I think that everyone would have benefited far more from a structured, stable home environment where the children could feel a sense of having a normal home.

In the end, she did admit that after spending 20 hours with each parent, she did not anticipate the possibility of murder ... a real shame that she did not understand the extreme seriousness of the situation and the danger that Laura was in. Instead, she claimed that Laura experienced anxiety and that she needed help to moderate that feeling. The psychologist should have tried to better understand Laura's anxiety about interactions with Grant.

Speaking from experience (my own and others) this is the most common outcome in a case like this. Too many custody evaluators dont have adequate training in domestic violence and coercive control. The rates at which those diagnosed with NPD, APD etc get custody are truly frightening. We do have a thread on WS specifically for battered mothers with links to orgs and research that can help.

I thought Dr. Ross was very impressive -- explaining the terms that she has prolly had to explain hundreds of times, and explaining them simply and in an easy-to-understand way. Forensic anthropology -- fascinating profession, IMO. I can't imagine how they can get the science down to figuring out what type of blade was used on those bones -- down to how many teeth per inch. My oh my.

Sorry to be so gruesome, but how did they possibly clean up all the blood that would have sprayed from the chainsaw? I am just really perplexed by that, IIRC investigators didn't find any blood, is that right? Everything had been cleaned off....how did they do that? And where did they do what they did with the chainsaw?

There was blood evidence revealed with luminol, but it did not test positive with a confirmatory blood test. There wasn't enough evidence to suggest that someone was dismembered in the bathroom, but it's possible that a plastic sheet was laid down prior to the dismemberment.

Very interesting comment, and I agree because look at Sha. She is a STRONG independent woman and even told Grant to his face that if he hurt her mother, he was going to have to deal with her. Sha didn't get that demeanor out of the blue, IMVHO. Certainly her father with whom she lived could have instilled that strength in her, but I'd place my bets on Amanda being her role model in that regard. This whole case is like opening up a DSMV. Everything is so weirdly dysfunctional and not to some degree.

I want to say Diagnostic and Statistical Manual? It is basically the agreed upon standard of diagnostic criteria for mental disorders. V is Roman Numeral 5, because we are now on the 5th edition. There was a huge controversy over DSMV with men's rights groups pushing for a theory they call Parental Alienation Syndrome to be included. DV advocates fought strenuously against that -and won. Big win in what is kind of a losing battle - trying to get courts to recognize child safety as the FIRST priority.

Yeah, even Ginger Calloway laughed. I was shocked by that - who knew she had a sense of humor. (I think the FBI handwriting analyst from Quantico might be Ginger Calloway's daughter ).

What a god-awful recommendation by Calloway. We haven't seen the Laura parts, but still... And she wasn't worried for Laura, just for the children. How inept can you get? Glad I don't have kids who were subjected to her whims. carynative, I don't like her, either. Too cold for me, these were humans she was dealing with.

Indeed, Boodles, and in spades. I wonder if she has had any thoughts about her recommendation vis a vis Laura's murder at the hands of these two... Has she maybe had a glimmer of what her pronouncement may have done to exacerbate the death of poor Laura? I saw nothing of that in her when she was on the stand. Certainly she was representing the best interests of the children, as she essentially said, and she had somewhat of a handle on Grant's problems, but she, IMO, made this recommendation in a vacuum. Good grief.

This is kinda OT of today's testimony, but I think the prosecution needs to clearly show the H's financials to the jury.

Because it seems AH has all the money and allocates it to GH as needed. We know of one ATM transaction by GH, at the Blue Flower bar, in the early morning on July 14. This was right before his trip to the Brier Creek Walmart to buy the saw.

Most of the other money transactions are AH receiving deposits or $, and then her putting them into accounts and withdrawing at ATM's. I would love to see GH's debit card statement - how much did he have in his account on July 12, and what transactions occurred subsequently?

I think Amanda controlled everything financially. If he was sent out (IMO) to buy a saw, plastic, gloves, etc., she gave him the $ as needed. Then he needed coolers, she probably transferred more $ to him or gave him more cash. She funded all of his spending. I think she held him on a tight leash and knew and controlled everything.

I really believe she ran the show, and she sure as heck wasn't going to fund child support for GH's baby mama.

As to how the bathroom got so clean, here's my theory. Warning: GRAPHIC and disturbing

GH bought plastic sheeting and a tarp. He bought black plastic garbage bags. I can't remember if he bought duck tape.

I believe they lined the tub/shower and bathroom walls with plastic sheeting & tarp, including the ceiling (although CCBI didn't check the ceiling for blood - they should have!!). As someone said above, I think they first let blood escape from the wound down the tub drain. From within the shower curtain, GH used the black plastic bags to contain the body as he sawed and then used them to hold parts. When done, ice was put into the tub. The plastic sheeting, saw, etc. were thrown into the trash which was picked up, unfortunately, on Friday morning, July 15 (or were taken to a random dumpster off-premise). When they got the coolers Saturday, the body parts in black garbage bags were put into the coolers (one had wheels).

Then that bathroom got its best cleaning ever. The bleach stain by the door might be from a cooler or container that unexpectedly leaked. Or maybe they stabbed Laura by the front door.

Sorry to be so graphic. It is horrific. Also, I think GH did all the sawing. That's what was happening at the apartment when Sha had the boys that Thursday. I don't think AH got her hands dirty with the sawing directly. But I think she cleaned the bathroom.

I think AM is smarter than we all believe. She was already starting to formulate her defense if required on that Wed morning before they left KB's house. Prior to the "Look me in the eye" conversation, she had been advised by Matthew Guddat that LE had picked Sha up for questioning, she knew LE was onto them. AH hired a PI wanting to know what evidence there was against them, AH was the brains in this outfit not GH. I believe & hope that the women on that jury will come to the conclusion that the cleaning of the bathroom was meticulous & it was done by a woman. If the jury can be convinced that AH had some hand in the clean up of the apartment then her whole defense story is shown to be what it is , total bs.

I was thinking the exact same thing, I just wish the PT team spent more time on the plastic to paint the picture in the jurors mind. Let's hope it's covered in closing arguements. I too believe only a woman could have cleaned that bathroom so well.

I certainly hope your own dealings with the NPD or APD (or both) person in your life are well in the past, Irish. It's called surviving, as you know. Bravo!

I have followed a lot of trials and situations here on WS as well as some just in the news or in a true crime book, and I can only remember one where the perpetrator was not NPD and/or APD. I feel sure we've all known such types at work or somewhere, and some of these folks are able to deal with their demons in a socially acceptable way. So far.

But you find me a murderer or partner-abuser or both, and I'll show you a narcissistic sociopath, nearly every time. We as a society are missing the boat somewhere folks... and we need to see if we can remedy that unfortunate situation -- people are hurting & dying because of it.

Certainly more & more insurance companies refusing to pay mental health claims has led to many closings of facilities that deal with these disorders, etc. And society's lingering fear or embarrassment in accepting that mental health issues are more than a weak-willed human being, also has a lot to do with it.

But something's got to give here, folks. Grrrrrrr. Oh, let me stop...

I'm sure this type saw would also make (please excuse) splatter, etc., but prolly not as much as a chain saw. They would have still have had quite a clean-up. I don't know how loud they are, but some loud music would prolly help disguise it, at least.

I too, aa, would like to know where that saw is... prolly at the bottom of a dumpster or a body of water somewhere between here and Texas.
