According to officials, the sheriff's office and Cherokee County Emergency Services responded to a 911 call at 75 Gooseberry Road in Murphy on Saturday, March 2. The caller was a Cherokee County father who arrived at the home of his separated wife to exercise custody of his 4-year-old twin sons around 10 a.m.

Upon arrival at the home, he found his twin sons deceased, officials said.

Officials said Springer, who has been named as the mother of the deceased twin boys, was hospitalized in North Georgia and charged with two counts of first-degree murder by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Springer was released from the hospital on March 2 and subsequently arrested in Union County, Georgia. She waived extradition and was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center on March 3, where she is currently held without bond.

In the press release Sunday night, the sheriff's office said, in part:

In the wake of this tragedy, Sheriff Dustin D. Smith is asking for prayers for the victims’ family, friends and all the first responders involved. Sheriff Smith would like to remind our county that our children are our most precious resource and our hope for the future. We all must stand united for their protection and for justice.
A critical incident debriefing will be held for all first responders involved. A critical incident debriefing is a facilitator-led group process conducted soon after a traumatic event with individuals considered to be under stress from trauma exposure.

This my town; just got told about this incident by one of the dealers at the casino.

This the AP on Court TV very little different from above. Minor confusion on whether she was found in the hospital, then arrested; or if she was arrested first and taken to the hospital in GA.

Springer waived extradition, and authorities took her to the Cherokee County Detention Center on Sunday without bond.

The father said he last saw his twin sons alive on Monday, February 26. Authorities think the children died between February 26 and March 2. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said its hopeful that autopsies will narrow down the date and time of the deaths

Divorce proceedings for a Cherokee County couple shed light on the turbulent last year, ending in the deaths of the Springer’s sons on March 2, 2024. Allegations of substance abuse, prior allegations where the couple’s children may have been endangered, and potential infidelity were raised in the court filings.

With the additional MSM info of the last couple days per posts above: I would indicate that dealer I mentioned knew a whole lot about this situation that did not make the media until recently. Even the family names of some of the neighbors. To date, I have not seen MSM mention of the father's occupation, employer; or past involvement of..uh..service agencies.
The joys of living in a small town.
