Day 2 of jury selection is underway for the Bailey Boswell trial. About half of the potential jurors from yesterday remain.
By this afternoon, 15 jurors will be locked in as opening statements are slated to begin tomorrow morning.
Updates to come here and on @Channel8ABC

3h
45 jurors from yesterday remain, and 50 new jurors were called in. The 15 jurors will most likely be chosen from the 45 people from yesterday, but new prospective jurors are brought in should any of the original group not be able to serve.

Confused yet?

2h
Judge Johnson just addressed the room of jurors, thanking them for their patience and saying that the process is going "spectacularly well."

Before breaking for lunch, attorneys questioned potential jurors in private about their opinions on various issues, including the death penalty.

10h
After lunch, they called the 50 new jurors in and prosecutor Mike Guinan is asking questions about their thoughts on the idea of remaining innocent until proven guilty, whether or not they believe Boswell should have to testify in the case.

10h
They're also asking the potential jurors if they are able to handle viewing gruesome or upsetting photos. One potential juror indicated she has a weak stomach and is going to speak with the juror in private.

10h
During his questioning, prosecutor Mike Guinan said Aubrey Trail was unlikely to testify in the trial.

10h
Guinan just asked jurors if they're comfortable hearing testimony about witchcraft and sorcery. Nobody said they had strong feelings about the topics.

10h
The jurors were also asked their thoughts on dating sites and apps like Tinder, which is the app on which Boswell and Loofe met.

There is still a large number of jurors left in the process. I would guess 50-60. They are reviewing the charges that Boswell faces and what exactly those charges mean.

Mike Guinan, asst. Attorney General says they are not anticipating Trail to testify.

9/24/20 Day 2 of Jury Selection: Day 2 of jury selection is underway. About half (45) of the potential jurors from yesterday remain. And the court brought in 50 more potential jurors this morning & went thru the process of finding out if any of them have medical or financial reason they can't serve. They have been asking the potential jurors questions about their knowledge of the case, their opinions about issues like the death penalty & ultimately whether or not they’d be able to serve on the jury fairly. Jury selection is expected to last through Thursday. By this afternoon, 15 jurors will be locked in as opening statements are slated to begin tomorrow morning. The 15 jurors will most likely be chosen from the 45 people from yesterday, but new prospective jurors are brought in should any of the original group not be able to serve. The trial is scheduled to last 4 weeks. Looks like jury has not been chosen yet from tweets. Jury selection continues on 9/25/20.

Jury chosen for Bailey Boswell's trial in the slaying of Sydney Loofe

Jurors will hear opening arguments Friday morning in the murder trial of Bailey Boswell. Lawyers for the state and Boswell selected eight men and seven women for the jury

Boswell, dressed in a long-sleeve gray sweater and black dress, appeared much more engaged and alert than in previous court appearances. She regularly took notes as jurors were being questioned and frequently talked with her attorneys as the voir dire, or jury selection, process continued. In past hearings, Boswell stared straight ahead, emotionless.

Todd Lancaster, one of Boswell’s attorneys, told jurors that he would not say whether Boswell will testify in her own defense. But one of his questions to potential jurors was whether they would hold it against a defendant who didn’t take the stand to tell her side of the story.

Lancaster also asked jurors if they felt that someone who was nearby when a crime was committed should also be considered guilty.

Lead prosecutor Mike Guinan quizzed jurors about whether they had any misgivings in finding someone guilty of a crime that could be punishable by death. He also asked if jurors would be queasy viewing grisly photographs.

So, she’s going to blame it all in Trail . Like we didn’t see that coming! IMO, she was the ringleader here.

Assistant AG Sandra Allen tells the jury Sydney Loofe was scheduled to go to work the next day, after a date with Bailey Boswell on Nov. 14, 2018. "She never showed up."

Paul Hammel @PaulHammelOWH
Prosecutor in Bailey Boswell murder case now recounting events prior to and after disappearance of Sydney Loofe. Smell of bleach was so strong in apt shared by Boswell and Aubrey Trail that upstairs resident had to open windows in mid November

Alex Whitney @ntv_alex
All of the phone numbers identified as belonging to Boswell and Loofe pinged at a home in Wilber the night of her disappearance. Loofe’s phone would be shut off a short time later.

Prosecutors are describing the day they found Sydney’s remains. “At dusk on December 4th they found a garbage bag” they also shared how they identified Loofe’s remains.

Prosecutors are now talking about some items of Sydney’s that were found during the search for her. Her phone was found smashed alongside her phone case and drivers license cut into several pieces in a ditch near Wilber.

The prosecution is now telling jurors about what Boswell and Trail were up to the day that Sydney disappeared and their purchases of a hacksaw and tin snips.

Jurors told that three women will tell them that Bailey Boswell ‘got off sexually’ by talk of murder and torture. Prosecutor says evidence will show she is guilty in killing of Sydney Loofe

The prosecution has finished its opening statements, now begins the defense.

Defense attorney for Bailey Boswell says prosecutors will ‘over and over’ show gruesome photos of Sydney Loofe’s body to ‘get you emotional. Is it because their evidence is not strong?’ Attorney tells jurors

Lori Pilger @LJSpilger
He asks jurors to pay attention to the testimony of the women who had stayed with Trail and Boswell. "You are going to hear some crazy things from these women."

"Some of what you hear is going to leave you with more questions than answers," Todd Lancaster said, adding it's because the state's evidence is weak and they want to rile up the emotions of jurors.

Following opening statements, Judge Vicky Johnson has sent jurors home for the day. Testimony is set to begin Monday morning.

Marlo Lundak @marlolundaktv
Today was quick. The prosecution spoke to the jury for about an hour about the timeline of events leading to the death of Loofe. The defense talked for close to just 10 minutes, telling the jury to think about how the state is just trying to “rile their emotions”
