High Profile Haleigh Tip, Unfounded

Last Wednesday (09/23/09) an unidentified woman stopped at the offices of the St. Augustine Record and dropped off a letter containing a tip as to the whereabouts of missing Haleigh Cummings. Detectives determined that the information in the letter needed further clarification, and Friday the video of the woman arriving at the St. Augustine Record was distributed to the media. The woman learned that the Sheriff's Office's needed to talk to her, and came to the Sheriff's Office Friday afternoon.

The letter contained information about a possible burial site for Haleigh Cummings, the six year old girl reported missing from Satsuma, Florida. Detectives thoroughly followed up on the information provided, but the tip did not lead to Haleigh. This tip, as have the other more than 4,000 received in this case, has thus far not led to the recovery of Haleigh.

We finally have a copy of the letter and I was right on my calculations. It does end up near Hunter between Tyler and Monroe Alley.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said Monday the woman told investigators she worked as a messenger for an older man who had once been an FBI informant. The unidentified woman also told investigators the man had some "special abilities." Capt. Dick Schauland, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, wouldn't elaborate on whether those abilities meant "psychic abilities."

"We have not talked to him," said Schauland. "We've asked her to bring him in. I don't know if she'll be able to or not."

With all due respect, we have no information regarding the perspective of the letter writer; i.e., whether this is a "as you're looking out the front door to the road" perspective, which makes the right side of the MH at the back door, or whether it is a "as you're looking AT the front door from the road" which would place it where you suggest.

Either way, looks like it didn't pan out.

I think the author of the letter was very clear in the directions and the map. The rectangle is intended to be the home as you see it from the front or the street view and the dashes leading from the "right end" go directly along Monroe Alley. If you go the other way, 540 yards ends up in the river or near the bank of the island.

So they say...but how did they go about conducting this search? Did they dig at all? I would like to see actual footage which the video doesn't show below. I am not even certain it is the same search on the video.

I don't know what type of well it might have been. Most wells are not very big holes, mine's probably not 10 inches across and there will only be metal if the well is cased and if it's abandoned and cased it might have a welded cap on top of the well.

Well I guess if this case is ever solved we will find out who took the letter to the newspaper because all that falls under sunshine law.

I wish we knew if TES was going to follow through on their statement made around Aug 19th that they would return and search for Haleigh in 4 - 6 weeks, when the foliage died down. That would be about now and the location specified in this drawing would be good for them to check, IMO. This is right up their alley.
