Cuomo says coronavirus is ‘more dangerous’ than expected as New York cases jump 14% overnight to 75,795

Coronavirus cases in New York state jumped 14% overnight to 75,795 with 1,550 deaths across the state.

“I’m tired of being behind this virus. We’ve been behind this virus from day one,” the governor said. “We underestimated this virus. It’s more powerful, it’s more dangerous than we expected.”

The state’s new cases make New York the coronavirus epicenter of the world, surpassing China’s Hubei province which reported 67,801 confirmed cases since the virus emerged there in December.

Cuomo said 10,929 people have been hospitalized with the coronavirus, including 2,710 ICU patients. Almost 400 of those people were hospitalized overnight.

“We’re all anxious, we’re all tired, we’re all fatigued. It’s been all bad news for a long time. Our whole lifestyle has been disrupted. Everybody wants to know one thing, when will it end. Nobody knows,” Cuomo said. “We’re dealing with a war we’ve never dealt with before. We need a totally different mindset and organizational transformation."

He said the outbreak in New York state may not peak for three weeks.

“If our apex is 14 to 21 days ... then [you] have to come down the other side of the mountain once you hit the apex,” he said. “So calibrate yourself and your expectations so you’re not disappointed every morning you get up.”

He urged people to remain vigilant, even if it means remaining isolated for long periods of time.

″‘Well, I’m bored.’ I know! I’m bored!” Cuomo said.

Cuomo also said he wants to move health workers from unfilled hospitals in the state into beleaguered hospitals in New York City.

VENTILATORS! VENTILATORS! VENTILATORS!
- NY Governor Cuomo

Cuomo reiterated today that COVID-19 patients need ventilators a lot longer than most other respiratory patients, arguing the state needs a lot more. “The longer people are in, they either get treated and leave or they get put on a ventilator,” he said. “The longer you’re on the ventilator, the less likelihood you’ll come off the ventilator.”

He said the state placed an order for 17,000 ventilators from China for $25,000 each, but it expects to get just 2,500. California, Illinois, the federal government and Italy also ordered the same ventilators.

“It’s like being on eBay with 50 other states bidding on a ventilator. ... How inefficient. And then FEMA gets involved and FEMA starts bidding. And now FEMA is bidding on top of the 50. So FEMA is driving up the price. What sense does this make?” Cuomo asked.

Maybe I've missed it, but why exactly are things SO much worse in New York than other states right now?

The New York City area airports bring in many people from all over the world. The highest, I believe, in the USA. It also landed in other areas of the country that have international travel (Detroit admitted to this too) but because of the density of people in the NYC area, it spread quickly here. Louisiana will get hit hard next because it spread quickly during Mardi Gras (same problem, higher density of people). Florida is another problem since they have only put some of the southern counties on "stay-home" but the rest of the state is running wild, especially on beaches, which has been confirmed in MSM even as of yesterday (the Governor of Florida claims they are not open, but people have been photographing crowded beaches).

The lack of tests and delays in results is a BIG problem, here and in other parts of the US. People are testing all around the US and not self-quarantining. We should have had a nationwide lockdown like Asia, South America and European countries.

Because we are not on lockdown, the majority are not taking it seriously, whether it be here in the NYC area or in a small town in another state. It will get worse in other areas of the USA. Cuomo believes it will peak here in 3 weeks, whereas, in other states it may just begin to peak or be just behind our peak.

Stay safe and if you have any questions, please post them here since we are dealing with it so severely.

Remember, Dr. Birx and Dr. Fauci PREDICTED between 100,000-200,000 deaths. The rest of the US needs to seriously think about that, even at the low number of 100,000. That is not "winning the war".

At Tuesday’s news conference, the NY governor said: “You don’t really know Chris. You see Chris, he has his show at 9 o’clock on CNN but you just see one dimension. You see a person in his job and in his job he’s combative and he’s argumentative and he’s pushing people, but that’s his job. It’s really not who he is. He’s a really sweet, beautiful guy. He’s my best friend.”

William Helmreich, a prominent sociologist perhaps best known for walking nearly every block of New York City, died Saturday morning of coronavirus.

He was 74.

Helmreich wrote nearly 20 books, including "The New York Nobody Knows: Walking 6,000 Miles in the City," which chronicled his walks through New York City talking to and learning about its residents.

Born in Switzerland to Holocaust survivors, Helmreich immigrated to New York City as an infant, eventually becoming a sociology professor at the City College of New York.

He also made the point of how Chris wanted their mother, Mathilda to move in with his family because she was lonely. Gov said no, don’t do it. And she did not.

Otherwise they would be dealing with an even worse situation if Mom got sick.

Ugh. Governor Coumo is under so much stress and the constant accusations and finger pointing is only making matters worse for him and the nation as a whole.

We are doing our best is letting the nation know what is to come. Stay safe!

New York City has launched an online portal that provides residents with information and updates if they or someone they know has contracted the coronavirus.

New York Restaurants Have Lost At Least $2 Billion In Sales Due to COVID-19, Survey Says

A national survey found that New York state restaurants had to lay off more than 250,000 people and lost nearly $2 billion in revenue in the first 22 days of March. The survey looked at 4,500 nationwide; it’s not clear how many of those were in New York, but the report does note that restaurants in the state saw a 58 percent drop in sales compared to the same time last year. NYC alone employs more than 350,000 people in the hospitality industry.

“We’re pretty much bringing patients to the hospital to die.”

That’s how city paramedic Megan Pfeiffer summed up the increasingly grim local coronavirus situation, while described her grueling work as a first-line emergency worker treating patients in Queens while responding to 911 calls.

WASHINGTON – In assessing the threat of the coronavirus nationwide President Donald Trump and his health aides showed models Tuesday indicating that two states have it worse than anybody: New York and New Jersey.

Analysts said New York got hit hard in part because of heavy travel at the start of the new year between the Big Apple and Wuhan, China, where the coronavirus originated
