Lauren was used to having a nanny but then thrown into a hotel room for 2 weeks with twin babies, a 6 year old and a husband.

How much support was she receiving?
This is truly devastating.

My daughter spent 2 weeks quarantine with a balcony and she still says it was the hardest time of her life.

I have a feeling that quarantine period might have been the tipping point. Who knows what other underlying personal problems they were suffering.

Postpartum depression is my best guess.

Until recently she had lots of support, doctors are not supposed to be ‘weak’ and she hid it well until left in a hotel room without supports.

Won’t be surprised if she had a psychotic break.

PPD is very real, under reported.

She did comment on lack of sleep, possibly the only ‘hint’ of her distress.

We all suffer from lack of sleep with young children, it would be easily explained with twin two year olds, three kiddies under six.

I’m very sympathetic to the whole family, it’s a dreadful tragedy.

I cannot believe that two weeks in a hotel room unhinged someone that much. Something else would have triggered it if not that.
She probably had domestic help and a nanny in SA.

She did. She had a nanny. I cannot either. I had to isolate for 24 days in frigid cold in a tiny apartment with my daughter. But I’m not in her shoes. This one is hard and I hope we find out what happened to prevent it from happening again and helping others see maybe some signs.

''A Toronto doctor who jumped in front of a subway train while cradling her baby son died of her injuries Saturday night. She had been in hospital for nine days.
Suzanne Killinger-Johnson, 37, leapt in front of a moving train with her sleeping child around 7 a.m. Aug. 11.
The six-month-old boy, Cuyler, died instantly.''
''Experts believed she may have been suffering from the most serious type of postpartum depression, which can drive mothers to kill their children in a demented act of love.''
''It's believed she had stopped taking anti-depressant drugs because she was worried the medication might harm her son, who was breast-feeding.

Her mother, psychologist Dr. Barbara Killinger, has written books on stress, depression, and anxiety. Her father is also a doctor.''

Now I'm not so compassionate.
The ties did it for her.
yeah...that took longer than it would take to call her husband, the concierge, anyone...is hotel quarantine syndrome even a thing. sorry-- but being a physician she knew very well strangulation is a long death. she killed her children manually and slowly . i am sure she is not able to live with herself at this point.

I believe they were living in a house reserved for hospital staff. The 2 weeks at the hotel was done.

so surrounded by medical professionals...even worse.

Medical professionals are people first.

With all the problems, stresses of life same as their patients.

Anyone can have PPD or other mental breaks, anyone.

To me, it’s very telling that she was taken to a hospital, not a jail.

It must have been very obvious to the first responders that this was not your ‘average’ killing spree.

I don't disagree, being in medicine there is a higher rate of physician suicide than ever. . . but that sticking point is the time it took. Ten pm at night is late for anyone to return home for a spouse, i can't imagine his horror.

''The 40-year-old medical professional, who arrived in Timaru from South Africa - via MIQ - with her orthopaedic surgeon husband and their three daughters just over a week ago, was remanded in custody to a secure forensic mental health unit by Judge Dominic Dravitzki until her next appearance in the High Court at Timaru on October 5.

No plea was entered at the court appearance, her first since being charged.''
