This is bizzare. Where is she?

One of the locations the silver Mitsubishi sedan, registration DPH101 travelled to on Wednesday

LE will have the GPS although so far I have only seen them ask for sightings of this car throughout several nearby suburbs. No word about them searching at locations that may be used to dispose of remains...just another property that YB was linked to via her work

The accused kidnapper had the opportunity to avoid a murder charge were she still to be alive and hidden away somewhere

Wow. That article also says:

The man, was granted interim name suppression, was charged with unlawfully taking Bao away without her consent, with intent to cause her to be confined, after police arrested him on Saturday at an airport.

It is believed he’s linked to a property deal Bao was negotiating.

Stuff can also reveal Bao acted as the agent for the buyer of the same property the alleged kidnapper lives at in Bryndwr, and completed the sale in June, about the time two men moved in.

I have been following along ... and I had mapped out where the police said the car went on Wednesday.

I think it went all over the place, and when I look at the overall picture it doesn't look so good. A trip to the ocean and a trip to the lake.

Google Maps

“We’re interested in sightings of the vehicle from mid-week up until last night, but with a particular focus on the vehicle’s location on Wednesday, July 19 in Wigram, Hornby, Tai Tapu, Halswell, Redcliffs and New Brighton.”
The Herald understands police have also been searching near Lake Ellesmere. Link

Thank you for that fantastic piece of sleuthing

Feeling for Yanfei's husband and daughter, her family in China and all her friends...really looking grim now

LE have experience searching areas of water around Chch

Court hears murder accused could have hidden body in river bank

I closely followed the trial of DB accused of murdering friend Michael McGrath...following is intel provided by an Australian university professor and private consultant in police intelligence and geo-forensics – "the science of search" when giving evidence at the trial

Mark Harrison, a former Australia Federal Police head of intelligence, was first contacted by New Zealand Police on June 12, 2017, for help in the "sudden and unexpected disappearance" of McGrath

In homicides, water features as most the preferred method of disposal, where it is accessible and follows the "least effort principle" of disposal, Harrison told the court.

While movies often show criminals digging graves for victims’ bodies, in real life it is rare due to the effort required, he said.

A body disposal area is usually known to the offender, Harrison said, easy to access, has clear, permanent identifiable features or markers, like a large conspicuous boulder, and has a good chance of not being seen by any potential witnesses.

After looking at the case, Harrison concluded: "I am therefore of the opinion that the Halswell River and wetlands would’ve afforded Benbow a highly-suitable location to conceal and dispose of McGrath."

Benbow could have parked close to the river and carried McGrath’s body, perhaps using a tarpaulin or other wrapping, the witness said.

"In this case, Benbow had a significant window of time to conduct effective reconnaissance and even through trial and error choose the most suitable location with the highest probability of concealment within a short distance of where he could’ve parked his vehicle on any of the aforementioned access points to the Halswell River," he said.

Digging a shelf into the side of the riverbank would’ve been easier than digging downwards, Harrison said.

But given the changeable, dynamic nature of the river, if McGrath’s body had been there, "his remains may have already been removed either through natural forces, flushing, or those undertaken by the land management processes."

A "flushing effect" was a highly-likely scenario, Harrison said, meaning a body buried into a riverbank could have been washed into the river, potentially out to Lake Ellesmere which the river feeds into, and even further out to the open ocean.

A 2km section of the river was searched by NZ Police, using dogs, divers and search experts, between July 9 and 13 2017, the court heard.

Harrison said it would’ve been "extremely challenging work" given its dynamic, changing nature.

"While further searches could be considered they would require careful planning and resourcing due to the complex and dynamic nature of the search area."

In August 2017, Harrison advised Operation Renovation detectives to release a "tactical" media statement which said police were working with an international search expert and had identified geographical areas of interest in the greater Christchurch area that specialist search teams would focus on.

One tidbit tucked into a sentence:
" ... 52-year-old Bryndwr resident ..."

RandyMarsh said:
The street name in Bryndwr is Earnslaw Crecsent.

The Herald obscures his face; otherwise the accused kidnapper is pictured at link.

What's the story with the broad area of interest?

“... silver Mitsubishi sedan, registration DPH101 ... particular focus on the vehicle’s location on Wednesday, July 19 in Wigram, Hornby, Tai Tapu, Halswell, Redcliffs and New Brighton.”
NZHerald

@SouthAussie same map with no knowledge of the area.

The alleged kidnapper's movements - LE will know everywhere that car travelled on Wednesday - one of the areas of interest will be where Yanfei will be found

The house in NZ Herald article vs the same house on Google maps from a few years ago. No camera before. House was last sold earlier this year so the owner hasn’t been there very long.

I wonder what the connection is back to the Iroquois house. Maybe the arrested person wanted to purchase the renovated house that’s for sale. Bao maybe had the keys for it in Wednesday to show the man.

This type of thing doesn’t usually happen in Nz to people who are non- associated to crime (no gang connections etc).

Grace Millaine was one of these types of situations

I really hope he has her somewhere with food and water now that he is imprisoned until August. I fear that with the places the car has gone to that he has done something horrible to this poor lady. :(

Missing person Yanfei Bao was due to show a potential buyer through a property on the day she disappeared

Missing Christchurch real estate agent Yanfei Bao was due to show a potential buyer through a property – which is now at the centre of a major police investigation – on the day she disappeared.

The owners of the Hornby home say they’re “shocked and stunned” to learn the house they lived in for 37 years before recently relocating to Australia is under significant scrutiny and is set to undergo a forensic examination on Tuesday.

The property in Trevor St was due to go to auction on Wednesday, but that has been delayed.

Speaking from Australia, the couple, who asked not to be named, said Bao was due to show someone through their home on Wednesday morning – the day she disappeared.

Since then, there has been at least one open home there.

The couple learned police were at their property late on Sunday. No-one from the investigation had contacted them.

Stuff can reveal Bao acted as the agent for the buyer of the same property the alleged kidnapper lives at in Bryndwr, and completed the sale in June.

A neighbour said a lovely couple lived there before, but it since “became sketchy”, with security cameras put up on the house

The new owner of the Bryndwr property, who lives there with his wife and child, said he and Bao’s alleged kidnapper worked together at a factory.

The accused asked him if he had a room to rent, and moved in about a month ago.

The property owner said Bao was the real estate agent who helped him buy the Bryndwr home. He had not had any contact with her since the deal was completed in June.

On Thursday, after learning Bao was missing, the property owner said he shared a post on social media appealing for information about her whereabouts.

He worked late on Friday night, and did not see the accused.

The man said he was exhausted, and would not say if he had spoken to police.

He said he had no idea the accused had booked tickets to China.

Late on Monday, Reeves said police had not ruled out laying further charges against the accused, or the involvement of other people.

She said Bao’s disappearance was still being investigated as a kidnapping, not a homicide.

“We’re keeping an open mind. We still have a huge focus on trying to locate her and bring her home safe and well.”

Reeves said police had had a huge response to appeals for information related to the case, with 120 tips received since news of Bao’s disappearance was first reported by media on Thursday.

“We do get a real sense the Christchurch public is very invested in this and everybody wants to help in any way they can.”

The Trevor St property and the surrounding areas were now of “significant interest” to investigators “and residents can expect to see a significant police presence there in the coming days”, Reeves said.

She would not be drawn on why.

hmmmmmm this is confusing...

Suspect's car spotted near house Yanfei Bao was due to show buyer through, resident says

A car belonging to the man accused of kidnapping Yanfei Bao was seen parked in a street near a house the missing real estate agent was due to show a potential buyer through last week, a resident says.

The property, on Trevor St in Hornby, has been cordoned off and a police tent and spotlights have been set up, as it undergoes a scene examination.

Nearby resident Julie Charnley said she was adamant she saw the silver Mitsubishi police had appealed for sightings of parked on the side of the road about 100m from the Trevor St property for two days last week, but she couldn't be sure what days.

She remembered the distinctive dent in the boot, and the fact it was parked on a slight angle.

No-one was inside.

She drove past it on her way to work and had supplied police with her dashcam video footage in the hope it showed the vehicle.

Police have paid close attention to CCTV cameras on the front of a neighbouring house, and appeared to be photographing an area of footpath where footage may have captured someone walking past.

Charnley said she had not seen Bao.

Prospective buyers were coming and going from the property at the weekend, Charnley said.

Another neighbour said she was shocked the property was now at the centre of the police investigation into Bao’s disappearance.

She didn’t see anything suspicious at the home last Wednesday, the day the missing real estate agent was due to show a potential buyer through.

“This is a quiet neighbourhood we haven’t seen anything unusual.”

The woman said she’d seen a number prospective buyers shown through the modern three bedroom property, including families, since it was listed for sale.

An auction of the Trevor St property was due to take place yesterday, but it’s been postponed while the investigation takes place.

PETER MEECHAM/THE PRESS/STUFF
An auction of the Trevor St property was due to take place yesterday, but it’s been postponed while the investigation takes place.
On Monday evening, Detective Inspector Nicola Reeves said the Trevor St property was of "significant interest" to police investigating the Harcourts real estate agent's alleged kidnapping.

She wouldn't say why.

Hoping the police get some answers from the forensic search today, I’m impressed with their efforts so far.
Hoping the kidnapper had his phone on him all day Wednesday.
So a neighbour of the Trevor St house of interest is sure she saw the car of interest parked close to the house for 2 days! (link in previous post) Guess that's why they're paying so much attention there today looking for forensics

IMO nearby CCTV has likely been found to have footage of alleged kidnapper and Ms Bao going in... on the path or something

There for 2 days ? Wednesday the car was driving all over the place - did he do something there that day and spend next day cleaning up ? I wondered if he held her there for 2 days - and went driving around Wed alone looking for an ideal place to dispose...

It must be significant since more work is going into this property than searches at the previous properties of interest.

LE have been adamant they're still looking for misper - are they just being 'positive kiwis' ?? I would have thought by now that narrative will have evolved but...

Forensic examination focused on handprint at property connected to missing agentMissing Christchurch real estate agent Yanfei Bao: Forensic examination focused on handprint at property of interest

Handprint on the window
They report on "one" photo of a forensic examiner who could be seen taking pic of window pane - that's a bit misleading...well, clutching at straws with no other intel to write about f'now (edit Herald I'm referring to of course...)

Considering that house is for sale and has had many viewings plus recent open home I wouldn't be hanging out for more info on a blimmin handprint

Hopefully there is valuable and productive forensics to be found there...

More from above link...

The Herald understands police have also been searching a ditch near Lake Ellesmere.

Reeves told NZME police were still treating Bao as a “missing person”.

“We are still trying to locate her.

“The concern continues to grow the longer that we don’t know where she is.”

Asked about a potential motive, Reeves said a big focus of the investigation would be to look into Bao’s background and her activities to “see who she may have crossed paths with ... to work out what the motivation might be. It’s too early to say what that is at this stage”
