Nigella Lawson attacked by husband Charles Saatchi while dining

Looks like the article is about 12 years old, based on the ages reported of Nigella and Saatchi.

he's 70 - she's 53, talented and gorgeous

I hope she doesn't go back to him but chances are she's an abused woman who has experienced this so many times in the past 10 years that it seems normal and familiar to her

I hope she can derive some strength from her son and that she doesn't feel sorry for the abuser because he's old

He has her pretty tightly by the throat. She does not have a full face, not since she lost weight. From this angle it looks like he has his thumb dug in.

I hope LE talks to these gawkers. I am glad the paps included them in the photo, to be frank.

I am not trying to stir up trouble, but look closely at her jaw line in the photos of her leaving the house. I hope it is shadowing, because it sure looks like fingerprint bruises to me.

In my state, choking/strangling is a felony DV offence - even if the victim is not killed, because cutting off the blood supply to the brain via the carotid artery can easily be fatal.

IDK what the DV laws are over in the U.K., but I hope this is thoroughly investigated & I hope assault charges are filed. It angers me that Saatchi is trying to minimize his violent behavior by calling it a "playful tiff". That's right up there with the other BS excuse that batterers use: "She ran into my fist".

Nigela looks terrified in the photos, and looks as if she's trying to appease his anger so that he'll stop, IMO.

I've been a fan of Nigela for many years. My family & I used to love watching her show "Nigella Bites" back when we had cable. It's very distressing to find out that she's married to a batterer.

I hope she can find a way to get safely free of him.

From lisser's link, Saatchi is again trying to downplay his assault of his wife:

Saatchi: “There was no grip..."

I vehemently beg to differ! In the photo below, it looks like his thumb is digging into her neck. Now, he's been let off with a "caution". This is outrageous! It appears he was able to charm his way out of charges.

On the one hand, at least there is now an established record of his abuse. But I worry that Saatchi may now believe that he's above the law, if he didn't already believe so. I fear for Nigella's safety and for the safety of her children. I'm glad she's moved out of the family home. I hope she's somewhere he can't find her.

Oooh he was SLAPPED! With a bit of paper!

That'll learn him.

A charge of assault, surely? No? Jeez, shame on you Britain - it wasn't so long ago that you were shipping people to the colonies for pinching a loaf of bread!

.. not that we'd want Saatchi over here, or anything. Just sayin'.

Good! This will teach him! After the publicity that went world wide - he will be keeping his hands to himself.

This is a private matter - I hope her family and friends guide and support her in the right direction. I feel sorry for her.

Can someone explain to me WHY NO ONE INTERVENED?! That is what has me ticked. If I saw a man doing that to a woman I could call 911 and Then get my butt up and go over there..

What is wrong with people.

We only saw the photos, as far as I know no video footage was taken. In some of the photos there was fellow patrons peering on at the restaurant, however, it didn't seem enough to raise an alarm. They are both known drinkers. Pictures only tell one side of a story. Nigella is no shrinking violet. We do not know the whole story. Sorry to say, in different cultures and countries this type of action is interpreted differently. It is a personal matter, Nigella and her husband know the full truths and I hope she has friends and family to support her. I will never ever condone domestic violence having gone through it myself but it is a very private matter between two individuals and the police.

Nigella Lawson Steps Out Without Her Wedding Ring After Alleged Choking Incident

Looks like Nigella Lawson may be sending a not-so-subtle sign to husband Charles Saatchi.

While the couple was spotted dining together at the scene of the alleged choking incident earlier this week, Lawson was photographed without her wedding ring near her sister's London home yesterday...

Paparazzi

Lette met Robertson on a chat show in Australia in the early 1980s and was instantly smitten. She was married at the time and Robertson was in a relationship with Nigella Lawson. 'The gossip columns went mad when he came back to England with me in tow. It was all, "How could he leave that lovely woman for this loudmouthed nympho?" My response was, "How dare they call me a loudmouth?"'

Charles Saatchi says 'hands around throat' row with Nigella Lawson was 'playful tiff'

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...row-with-Nigella-Lawson-was-playful-tiff.html

“We had made up by the time we were home. The paparazzi were congregated outside our house after the story broke yesterday morning, so I told Nigella to take the kids off till the dust settled.”

Ms Lawson’s spokesman declined to comment on Mr Saatchi’s statement.

All Moo

Its not as simple as that Ausgirl.

As I understand it, Nigella has not gone to the Police to report this. the Police are investigating as a result of the photographs.

It would be harder to bring a case to court if Nigella did not cooperate with the Police and be willing to give evidence in court.

They would have to get the witnesses in to give evidence and in all likelyhood, Saatchi will have a top notch defence lawyer who would A. Question that the photographs are misleading, B. That if the attack was so bad why didn't the bystanders intervene? and C. Just how much they could see or hear given the pot plants, etc busy restaurant setting.

Now there are cases where the police have taken people to court when their partners have not wanted to cooperate, but it has usually been when there is documented injuries by a medical professional and a prior history of abusive behaviour.

As I understand it, Saatchi went voluntarily and I don't think (as far as I know) have any priors for this sort of behaviour. Without documented medical evidence, a partner's evidence and a prior history of violence, this was pretty much all they could give him.

The caution will come with a time limit whereby he must not commit another offence like this again, or if he does he would likely be charged for this offence and along with any other offence he commits. The Police will also come round and talk to them both about this and be keeping a beady eye on him. He will definitely be on their radar.

I get your outrage with this caution and as someone who has been on the reciving end of dv, I wish he had more consequences to answer to, but really this was pretty much all the Police and CPS could do in these circumstances.

But also, this has been one of the lead stories in the media all week. This guys reputation is in tatters and newspapers are printing articles where journalists are urging Nigella to leave him. It wouldn't surprise me if a member of the public would throw a punch at him in the future. He has lost any goodwill or credibility he may have had and is public enemy number 1 at the moment in the media. This guy is going to be watched for a long time.

But I do understand your sentiments Ausgirl. He is a . But I for one, am glad that people don't get shipped off to the colonies for pinching bread!
