"The insurgents... grabbed young people, boys and girls, from our region," said Alhaji Shettima Maina, who is in charge of the Mafa village. "They took all boys aged 13 and over... and all girls aged 11 and more. According to our information, 30 young people were abducted in the last two days."

This is disheartening. Just when it seemed there was hope for the release of the schoolgirls kidnapped in April.

CNN also has an article on the latest kidnappings:

On Thursday Boko Haram killed 17 people in the nearby village of Ndongo, which they looted and set ablaze, Maina said.

"Many people have fled with their families to Maiduguri for fear of being killed or losing their children to the insurgents," Mustapha said.

I thought, it's preferable to have these people shoot me as I run than have them humiliate me. They kept saying to us: "Make sure you put on your scarves. Make sure you put on your scarves. We'll shoot any girl we see without a scarf. And any girl who jumps out will die."

I was about to jump out when one girl held me back and said they'd shoot me if I did.

Oh ... I just heard this. What a total let down. Those poor poor girls. Innocently learning in school, future seemed promising, then stolen away, perhaps a glimmer of hope that they would be returned to their families (though I doubt that they heard about that), and now this. :(

I bet they are part of a plan to repopulate the area with hard line radical children .. children that will be born of these 'marriages'.

"Don't you know the over 200 Chibok schoolgirls have converted to Islam?" Abubakar Shekau said. "They have now memorized two chapters of the Quran."

Shekau slammed reports of their planned release.

"We married them off. They are in their marital homes," he said, chuckling.

It looks like Nigerian government has been scammed. CBS News spoke to a man who had direct knowledge of the rescue talks. He told us the authorities paid millions of dollars to a person fraudulently representing Boko Haram but actually had no power to secure the release of the kidnapped girls.

In July, a former negotiator told CBS News "imagine the worst and it has happened." He said there were reports that many of the girls had been repeatedly raped, and others were sent across the border to neighboring Chad and Cameroon. It appears this may have been right.

"Parents of 200 Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Islamist rebels in April said they were appealing directly to the United Nations for help after losing hope that the Nigerian government would rescue them.

A group lobbying for government action on behalf of the parents met with U.N. Women, the head of the UN representation in Nigeria, and with officials of the UN Office for West Africa last month. The group has also appealed to UNICEF, campaign spokeswoman Bukola Shonibare said.

UN officials were not immediately available for comment.

"If the government cannot take action, we are asking for the UN to come in and help and if they reject, we just don't know what to do," Reverend Enoch Mark, leader of the parents, told Reuters. Two of his daughters were kidnapped."

Terrible news out of Nigeria
Same group that kidnapped girls, on six-day rampage. As many as 2000 may be killed

Boko Haram crisis: Niger 'will not help retake' town of Baga

"The BBC's Nasidi Yahaya in Abuja says the decision of Niger is clearly a big blow to Nigeria, which had said that the presence of a multinational task force in the area would help defeat Boko Haram.

The withdrawal of the troops from Niger means Nigeria's neighbour now has no forces directly involved in tackling Boko Haram.

Chad has also withdrawn its forces."

:(

Oh my God... could it get any more devastating?

I would like that chuckling *advertiser censored*- Abubakar Shekau - to choke to death, as painfully and terrifying as possible, on his "chuckles"... or better yet by being strangled to death by one of those innocent girls fathers. I hate feeling such rage.

Malala Yousafzai writes letter to kidnapped Nigerian girls:

"Please know this: we will never forget you. We will always stand with you," 17-year-old Yousafzai wrote in an open letter to the missing girls. "We will not rest until you have been reunited with your families."

"In my opinion, Nigerian leaders and the international community have not done enough to help you," wrote Yousafzai.
I so agree with Malala. Also, a newspaper column by Nigeria's president-elect Muhammadu Buhari, who takes office May 29:

What I can pledge, with absolute certainty, is that from the first day of my administration, Boko Haram will know the strength of our collective will and commitment to rid this nation of terror, and bring back peace and normalcy to all the affected areas......

My government will first act to defeat it militarily and then ensure that we provide the very education it despises to help our people help themselves. Boko Haram will soon learn that, as Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

The Nigerian army says it has rescued 200 girls and 93 women from Boko Haram camps in the Sambisa forest.

It has not been confirmed if the Chibok girls, who were kidnapped by Boko Haram almost exactly a year ago, are among them.

The rescue occurred during a mission to wrestle back control of the Sambisa forest from Boko Haram.

The Nigerian army said in a statement: "Troops this afternoon rescued 200 girls and 93 women from Sambisa Forest. We cannot confirm if the Chibok girls are in this group."

It was added that Nigerian troops had also destroyed three camps run by the militants.

I can hardly imagine the pain and sorrow of the grown women and what they have to endure. They see their husbands and older sons slaughtered in front of them, their teen girls kidnapped, and they are left behind with their younger children and elderly parents, to try and survive it all. :rose: :star: :rose: So tragic.

:crying:

YOLA, Nigeria (AP) — Even with the crackle of gunfire signaling rescuers were near, the horrors did not end: Boko Haram fighters stoned captives to death, some girls and women were crushed by an armored car and three died when a land mine exploded as they walked to freedom.

Through tears, smiles and eyes filled with pain, the survivors of months in the hands of the Islamic extremists told their tragic stories to The Associated Press on Sunday, their first day out of the war zone.

Boko Haram burns kids alive in Nigeria, 86 dead: officials

DALORI, Nigeria -- A survivor hidden in a tree says he watched Boko Haram extremists firebomb huts and heard the screams of children burning to death, among 86 people officials say died in the latest attack by Nigeria's homegrown Islamic extremists.

Scores of charred corpses and bodies with bullet wounds littered the streets from Saturday night's attack on Dalori village and two nearby camps housing 25,000 refugees, according to survivors and soldiers at the scene just 5 kilometres (3 miles) from Maiduguri, the birthplace of Boko Haram and the biggest city in Nigeria's northeast.

The shooting, burning and explosions from three suicide bombers continued for nearly four hours in the unprotected area, survivor Alamin Bakura said, weeping on a telephone call to The Associated Press. He said several of his family members were killed or wounded.
