I read about another case from Pennsylvania where they had done the familial DNA and narrowed the UIDs origin down to several counties in NC with lesser likelihood of being from Va. and a very few other states. They also seemed to have identified familial names of cousins and/or extended family. What is the reason that this has not been done for Princess? Is it just a matter of funding?

This technique is currently in the works for Princess Doe. If you'll look at post #764 on the previous page. There's an organisation attempting this technique but as of yet, attempts to extract DNA from Princess Doe's remains have been unsuccessful, as far as I know.

Sorry about that! Warren County is working with DNA Solutions and using investigative genetic genealogy to identify Princess Doe and Tiger Lady. Using a grant, Princess Doe has been exhumed. So far, recent attempts to extract DNA from her clavicle and femur haven't been successful. Her jaw and teeth are also being considered.

Additionally, they have access to Tiger Lady's organs (heart, lungs, kidney, liver) and bones (skull, jaw, teeth). They will find out within days if there is enough DNA present to avoid the $5,000 exhumation cost. They are confident they won't have to exhume her.

@faithx have you seen anything further published (given that the original article was behind a paywall, you may be the only one to have seen an update)?

The techniques for developing viable DNA from old remains can be very time consuming. If they were just doing the exhumation in November 2020, they might still be preparing the samples. It could be a year or more before they get a sample large enough to test, and then another year if they have to go back and try again.

Hopefully as more cases use the technique, better and faster processing will be developed. Meanwhile, we wait.

There hasn't been an update from what I can see. I'm not subscribed to that website, but for some reason I was able to access the article without a paywall. I will keep an eye on it in case there will be any updates in the future. I'm hoping that the DNA extraction is successful and Princess Doe's identification is coming soon.

Praying that she will finally get back her name!

I remember this was the first Doe case I ever discovered, I was about 17, and it has stuck with me ever since. I saw the documentary of her on Youtube and felt bad for the detective working her case. Hope she gets her name back one day.

Composite drawings of Princess Doe, died July 1982

This was one of the first ones I discovered as well. I got a flyer in the mail with missingkids.org on it and fell down the rabbit hole! This was 20 years ago this summer...I remember the disappearance of Danielle Jones was the current case at the time, but Princess Doe was the first unidentified case I really followed. (The others were Cali Doe, now known as Tammy Alexander, the girl in Florida with the heart tattoo who was identified last year--her name escapes me though right now, and Sharon Marshall/Suzanne Sevakis).

Princess Doe's NamUs profile was just updated with two additional rule outs - now up to 31.

Karen Kamsch - missing from MD 6/1/76
Barbara Cotton missing from Williams ND 4/11/81
The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)
Okay at least now we can rule Karen out. I just emailed the detective on Princess Doe’s case a little over a week and a half ago so I wonder if that got them to put the rule out up or something
