Suzy...........thanks!

I've been following this case in the news and have been very curious about the balcony situation and whether or not someone could climb over the partition between balconies.

I took the picture from the link you gave and saved it, and then using zoom, zeroed in on the balcony suites and did a blown up picture. It's a bit blurry, but does show that the partition between balconies would be impossible to climb over, as they go to the top. I hope my picture is okay and not too large or small for this board.

Thanks for the picture. With this picture, it actually makes sense to me how someone could fall off of the ship. Since someone can't climb directly from one balcony to the one next to them, they would have to climb over their balcony and straddle the two balconies from the outside. It seems like a pretty dumb idea, but I can see it happening.

Leila, thank you for the pic. One thing is for certain, IF someone were to try to climb from balcony to balcony, you would be guaranteed to fall.

I can't imagine anyone would try to climb from one balcony to the other. The partition goes all the way to the rail doesn't it? At least that's how I remember it.
I do not believe that a 46-year-old woman would attempt to do this. If she wanted to visit her friends, wouldn't she just walk out of the door and knock on theirs?

P.S. I am pretty nutty. I have to believe that even I were going to attempt this, my husband would stop me...I hope... :o

They do have video on the outsides of this ship so hopefully they have actual video of this tragedy

I bet if he knew she was telling her mum and sister about him hitting her he'd have alot of pent up anger towards her, sort of a 'I'll get you good when I can' type of thing. There have been many stories of people going missing at sea and I'm sure this jerk isn't the first one to think this is the perfect crime.

Poor woman, what a horrible way to die.

I also doubt she tried to climb around.... not only would it be extremely dangerous but what if her friends were getting changed or.... you know:blushing:!!!!

Earlier I was actually feeling kinda bad for giving Jorge a bad time....until I saw those pics and read about him breaking bones in Mindy's face! I hope HE has an accident.

Me too SuziQ.

Here we go again. A professional woman, a nurse, with means of supporting herself. Quite attractive. Why oh why did she stay with this JERK??

*sigh* So very sad and not understandable to those who have never been in the position. i haven't and it is hard to imagine putting up with such behaviour. :(

so there is a thread on this! This guy sure seems guilty to me. I had MANY bruises like her pictures on my arms from my exhusband. Never had to have reconstructive surgery - thank God.

After seeing the partition between balconies, I think it would be virtually impossible to climb from balcony to balcony. There doesn't look like there's anything to hold onto, except for the railing. And I don't see any place where a person could get a toe hold for support. It would be a sheer drop to the ocean below.

Sounds like it depends on logistics and the level of urgency- I am sorry about your friends husband.

Yes, logistics and level of urgency probably plays a role. The incident I mention happened in 1995. My friend's husband had terminal cancer, but was in remission and it was thought that he had at least 6 months to a year. They had traveled a lot and he wanted to go on one last cruise. He suddenly became very ill, and that necessitated being taken off the ship and to a hospital. At the hospital, his cancer which was thought to be in remission, was full blown and in the last stages. My friend has a picture of her husband taken on the cruise ship, and even though that picture was taken within days of his death, he looked the picture of health......tan and robust.

I don't think that she tried to flee. Hell, she could have screamed her head off. That's what I would have done. This guy threw her overboard, IMO.

When I initially heard about this, I thought it was an accident. But now, after learning that the boyfriend was an abuser and seeing the pictures of the bruises, I agree that he pushed her overboard.

In his story, he said she was trying to climb from one balcony to another balcony, and that she fell on something and couldn't hold on, lost her grip, and fell into the ocean. From this picture of the ship docked, I can't see anything she could fall onto........it looks like a sheer drop from one of those balcony suites to the ocean.
