This reminds me so much of Gabriel Fernandez who was also failed by those who should have protected him. Any news lately on Omaree?

Detriot : Immanuel Foster

"A Detroit couple have been charged with first-degree murder and torture in the death of the woman's 7-year-old son who weighed only 27 pounds.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office said Monday that 22-year-old Victoria Foster and 28-year-old Cory Rimson were arraigned Friday.

Police say Rimson told investigators he took Immanuel Foster to the hospital after the boy complained of abdominal pain and lost consciousness. He was pronounced dead Friday.

Bruises and abrasions were found on Immanuel's body. The medical examiner's office conducted an autopsy but says it needs more tests to determine the cause and manner of death."

These cases are almost unspeakable. Truly.

Does this precious child have a thread, HauntsForHope?

Omaree task force calls for more officer training | Local News - Home

(snip)
There are currently 21 officers trained as child abuse specialists. APD Chief Gordon Eden said 40 more officers will undergo the training.

-----

Color me confused, but in the wake of Omaree's preventable death and APD's lack of intervention, every officer should be trained as a safety net. :cow:

These cases are absolutely devastating. Two sweet, beautiful little boys who have been absolutely failed by the world.

These are the cases which have caused me to undertake a degree in a couple of months in child psychology and social work with a view to working with children of severe neglect and children with attachment disorders. These are the wonderful, fragile children who aren't heard, and that just breaks my heart. I want to hear them. There clearly aren't enough "specialists" in the world who truly care for these babies.

"While Omaree’s Law passed the House, it died in the Senate without a vote.

Just recently, Gov. Martinez announced CYFD Secretary Yolanda Berumen-Deines was being replaced by current State Tourism Secretary Monique Jacobsen. It’s unclear if the Omaree case played a role in that decision."

This link also said Casaus was supposed to enter a plea but it didn't occur. I wonder what happened. Frustrating.

He's been trying to get a plea deal. I believe some folks would rather he face a jury and the maximum sentence.

"ONE OF THE ADULTS ACCUSED OF KILLING 9 YEAR OLD OMAREE VARELA ... SAYS SHE'S BEEN TRYING TO WORK OUT A PLEA DEAL WITH THE STATE FOR MONTHS, WITHOUT SUCCESS. ACTION 7 NEWS REPORTER NANCY LAFLIN TALKED TO LAWYERS ABOUT WHY THIS CASE KEEPS DRAGGING ON. HE HAS BEEN IN COURT AGAIN...AND AGAIN. NOW...JUST OVER A YEAR AFTER THE BEATING DEATH OF HIS STEP-SON ...OMAREE VARELA.... DEFENSE ATTORNEYS SAY STEPHEN CASAUS IS WILLING TO MAKE A DEAL. "

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Albuquerque mom accused of killing her 9-year-old son is maintaining her innocence.

With tears in her eyes, Synthia Varela-Casaus stood in court Friday as her public defender entered a plea for her.

“Your honor we’ve had a chance to review the indictment with Ms. Varela-Casaus, she understands the charges against her and the possible penalties…she enters the plea of not guilty on all counts,” Jeff Buckels, public defender, said.

Disgusted - but sadly, not at all surprised at this latest turn if events. Counting on the Prosecutors Office to present a solid case against this sorry excuse for a mother, that will leave no shadow of a doubt once the adjudication process is complete.

She used her son as a pawn. Make no mistake about it. Omaree would be alive today had he been allowed to remain away from her.

He is no longer here to speak for himself. Thank you HauntsForHope for faithfully updating his thread. I look forward to the day when we finally receive word that #JusticeForOmaree has been delivered.

I noticed a lot of people discussing the two police not listening to the 911 recording of the sweet boys call. This is just my opinion, but I don't think that would have made one bit of difference to them. I think they were trying to do as little as possible, resolve the IMMEDIATE situation and be on their way.
