Missing Española Girl Found Dead
The body of 5-year-old Renezmae Calzada was found Wednesday in the Rio Grande near Santa Clara Pueblo, according to two sources who participated in the search crew.

Authorities called back search parties shortly after the discovery, and started tearing down a command post they had established at Ohkay Casino, ending a search that involved scores of local and state police officers and FBI agents and even more local volunteers.

Oh no. Just checked in to see if she had been found and saw this. What a horrible ending.

This article has wrong information in it. Malcolm Torres is the stepfather and not the father of Renezmae. The stepfather is the one in custody. Both of her parents have been cleared but not her stepfather.

I don't consider him a stepfather either unless he is married to the mother and he isn't. IMO he is a boyfriend and nothing else.

Time for our regularly scheduled reminder that LE does not need to tell the truth to the media and that the media can be a tool for them. LE runs the risk of media not wanting to deal with them if they pull that card too much, but a press conference is not a court of law. For example, they can announce someone is no longer a suspect to see if the person lets their guard down and does something stupid like tell a witness they got away with it.

I have never seen any LE outright say someone is not a suspect publicly, and then later on they are the suspect.

Do you know of any such case LE has publicly said someone was not a suspect, and it turned out LE lied? I ask, because I've honestly never seen them ever do such a thing.

While LE is allowed to legally lie when interviewing anyone, I've never seen them purposely lie to the public or purposefully mislead them. Why would they do that when he is already in jail going no where? It isn't like he is walking around free being surveilled by LE.

Any LE that states someone is not a suspect, and them later on they turnout to be ..would leave egg on the faces of LE making the public not find them trustworthy or think they were inept.

I have certainly seem them say they have no suspects or POIs at the time, and haven't ruled anyone in or out until an arrest is actually made. That's totally different than them saying a certain person is not a suspect. Imhoo.

It's is already extremely rare for them to publically rule anyone out, but everytime they have done so they had convincing evidence to support it.

I am so heartbroken another beautiful, precious child has been found dead, rather than alive. :(

I pray for justice for adorable MaeMae, and all who love her!

Missing Española Girl Found Dead
He said they have referred two children to the New Mexico Children Youth and Families Department, but that Calzada was not one of them.

The reporting on this crime has been so confusing. So, two children of this family have been referred to the child services department but Calzada wasn't one of them. Earlier, it was stated that the mother had filed against Torres for child support for two children. He is an ex-boyfriend living at another residence. Who on earth would leave Renezmae with him? I'm assuming that the child support filing was for the two other children and had nothing to do with Renezmae. She had been absent from school since August 29. School had called the mother but no details given

This is so bewildering but I'm sure details will come out soon.

Calzada was first reported missing by her mother, Victoria Maestas, via 911 at 7:39 p.m., Sunday, dispatch records show.

“The father called her (and) said she has been missing since 9:30 a.m. this morning,” dispatchers wrote. “Malcolm Torres is the father. Father hasn’t reported the child missing and thought the (mother’s) family picked her up.”

Rio Arriba County Sheriff James Lujan confirmed at a Monday press conference that one person had been taken into custody, after first being held in investigative detention.

Malcolm Torres was taken into custody at the Dairy Queen on North Riverside Drive, shortly after Calzada was reported missing, dispatch records show.

Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dwayne Epling then took Torres back to the home on Arch Lane.

Langenberg said the FBI also brought in experts in social media and digital data as well as evidence response and behavior tracking.

A number of search warrants were filed in the U.S. District Court of New Mexico in Albuquerque, with the help of the FBI, who assisted the Sheriff’s Office. The search warrants were filed under seal and can only be released to law enforcement or with a court order, unlike search warrants filed in state courts.

Yeah, that one threw me for a loop too. It isn't clear (to me, anyway) if the two children reported to the NM Children Youth and Families Dept. are family members or just other students who have missed school. o_O Weird. MOO

I took that to mean 2 other children at the school, not Renezmae's siblings.
 
It seems that every time we get a little more information with this one it doesn't answer much, it only creates even more questions.

I have a feeling that once again we have another mother whose boyfriend is responsible, though. This time mom may be involved, too. The whole thing about not being at school in several days is odd. I can't help but feel like 9 a.m is also sort of early for a 5 year old child to be out in the yard playing but idk, maybe my parenting is just different and more hands-on. I have a suspicion that all of the tech people may have been brought in to analyze phones and computers that have communications between mom and her boyfriend. Time will tell... (JMO)

Bless little Renezmae's soul, if nothing else, she is now free of worldly pain.
