Missing Española Girl Found Dead
The body of 5-year-old Renezmae Calzada was found Wednesday in the Rio Grande near Santa Clara Pueblo, according to two sources who participated in the search crew.

Authorities called back search parties shortly after the discovery, and started tearing down a command post they had established at Ohkay Casino, ending a search that involved scores of local and state police officers and FBI agents and even more local volunteers.

Oh, no. no...no...no....no!!!

“I want to thank all of the law enforcement partners and the Espanola community for coming forward the last couple of days, working with law enforcement, providing tips, and leading us into a direction which assisted us with locating Renezmae," Langenberg said."

Well that is a remarkable statement. Interesting.

This article has been updated with a few details from the press conference and information about tonight's service.

Missing Española Girl Found Dead
A previously scheduled prayer vigil for Calzada will go on as a memorial at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday (9/11) at the gazebo at the Plaza de Española.

This article has wrong information in it. Malcolm Torres is the stepfather and not the father of Renezmae. The stepfather is the one in custody. Both of her parents have been cleared but not her stepfather.

Yes, he's been called all manner of things; boyfriend, father, stepfather... I consider him mom's boyfriend rather than Renezmae's stepfather but that's just me. MOO

Though I have to add that the article is quoting from 911 dispatch records so that is either what the dispatcher wrote, a deputy wrote, or what mom told the dispatcher.

Sounds to me like someone who knew something came forward - perhaps more than one ?IMO

FBI Special Agent James Langenberg, who heads the agency’s Albuquerque office, said during a brief news conference Wednesday in Espanola that Renezmae Calzada’s remains had been found. He did not say where.

He did not take questions after stating the investigation into Renezmae’s case would continue. He says authorities were working to identify who might be responsible for her death.

Authorities say the girl was last seen Sunday morning outside her home in Espanola, and she was reported missing that evening. Authorities have not explained why there was a delay.

Langenberg says the searched for Renezmae included Espanola and 2 miles (1.6 kilometers) of the Rio Grande

Forgive me if I missed it. I just read an article dated today in the Albuquerque Journal that indicated that Torres is not a suspect. I would link it but cannot figure out how to do it.

Breaking: Missing Española girl's body found

Torres was initially cited as a “possible” suspect in Renezmae’s disappearance. But on Tuesday, a sheriff’s office spokesman said Torres is not a suspect.

Time for our regularly scheduled reminder that LE does not need to tell the truth to the media and that the media can be a tool for them. LE runs the risk of media not wanting to deal with them if they pull that card too much, but a press conference is not a court of law. For example, they can announce someone is no longer a suspect to see if the person lets their guard down and does something stupid like tell a witness they got away with it.
