BBM LOL!

I found this informative article that lists costs for the trial:

http://www.krqe.com/news/local/central/da-releases-levi-chavez-trial-expenses

My eyebrows are raised at the reasoning for putting up the prosecutors at a hotel during the trial. Aren't they local? I've never heard of this, no wonder dude smiled so much during trial. It probably would have been cheaper to pay for a driver for each of them. And we wonder why cities are broke, who's making the decisions?

Dunno...have to see on a map how far it is. It may have beeen more of a time saver thing to have them close by rather than driving.

Here is an article about the change of venue:

http://www.daily-times.com/nmnews/ci_22132945/change-venue-murder-trial-ex-nm-policeman

I looked up on mapquest to see how far the drive would be from county to county and it came up about 40 miles. I don't know if that is in any mountain's and where the Court Houses are at either. It also said 39 minutes based on traffic.

Now we don't know how much mileage they pay for driving back and forth either.

I am not trying to justify them staying in the motel, I was just looking at the other info. Holiday Inn Express is not cheap unless they got a special rate.

Overall I would of thought they could have put more time and energy in to the trial than what McKay did. jmo

Do prosecutors usually go with the trial to whatever location it's been moved to? Maybe it's typical when the venue has changed but it still seems like a luxury, being paid for with other people's money.

WAIT... what??????

I *thought* the ongoing of THIS case was the CIVIL trial? Is that correct?

There is NO prosecutor for ANY civil trial anywhere in the US. There is only going to be attorney's for each side. THE CIVIL trial is in ABQ (from links above?). Bernalillo CO to Sandval county a few miles from ABQ. Most New Mexicans wouldn't know when the left one or entered the other. Urban sprawl. Where did someone get 40 miles?

http://www.victimsofcrime.org/docs/CJ Brochures/nm-civil-justice-bro_reader.pdf?sfvrsn=2

Payment for the jury ... the demand is on the ONE that wanted a jury trial:
http://www.nmcourts.gov/newface/new/dmanual/pdf/10Jury.pdf
Scroll down to Page 14 for a six member or twelve member jury and the fees associated with that.

Then after that ... Keep reading ^^^^^^. Loser pays for the costs, etc., etc.

Have I lost the plot here? Is this upcoming (Jan in ABQ per links) a the CIVIL case? :scared:

Just watched some of this trial on YouTube paying particular attention to opening statements and testimony of Chavez. Have yet to view closing.

I am compelled to say this trial was an embarrassment to the state of New Mexico. The judge was appallingly weak and ineffective. Prosecutor was third-rate and allowed defendant to run all over him. Worse, Judge did nothing to prevent the travesty in court. He allowed the defendant to literally control the jury and the defense attorney to literally control the court. Makes one wonder if political corruption decided the outcome.

Chell, weren't you with us for this one? I could have sworn you were (we seem to be on the same threads a lot :) ).
THIS trial....there are just no words.
We did a LOT of this trying to view it-

PS- If you scroll back LC's Attn. David Serras wife even came in after it was over to talk to us about her husband!

If anyone knows what Chavez is up to these days, I'l love to know.

Not sure about all of NM, but Albuquerque does seem to have it's problems with LE and possible corruption.

 I did not get spell corrected on Albuquerque!!!
Sorry, I am proud of myself, that is a hard one to spell right :giggle:

And, I am proud of you as well, my friend.

I didn't post on the thread during the trial. I didn't want to be influenced. Wanted to just focus on the courtroom.

Probably nailing anything that moves and trying to figure out how to get rid of his current wife in a way that he can not be implicated (Won't be as easy this time, plus she is a cop herself)...
YES, I am bitter.

Bitter too. Levi lost his job so wonder if Levi and Heather are still in the state. He surely must need a new supply of ladies to service him.

Hey, Wouldn't it be a hoot if he ends up committing "suicide" by eating his favorite 45 Kimber.
