A private person has found a paddle that may have belonged to missing Kamphuis. This is confirmed by police inspector Bjarte Walla to an.no.

The police have reason to believe that the paddle belongs to the missing Arjen Kamphuis. The paddle was delivered to the police on the weekend and further investigations are being carried out around this discovery.

"It was found in the same area as the kayak was found in, and we will talk to the finder during the day to find out more about the circumstances surrounding," Walla said.

Throughout the weekend there have been searches in the sea area between Rognan and Fauske, and aside from the paddle trail, no new discoveries have been made. The Coast Guard has assisted the police in this work and the search ends Monday. There are no plans for similar searches the following days.

"We received close to 100 tips, and several of the tips are the subject of ongoing investigations. Some are checked out, but there are many we still work on," Walla says.

Monday morning there was a new theory that the Dutchman could have hidden himself on a cargo ship at Rognan that was going to Stavanger.

"This is a tip that is the subject of ongoing investigation. And there is no indication that there is more or less in this tip compared to others, "said Walla.

The police are still working on their three main hypotheses, namely, that an accident may have happened that Kamphuis himself does not want to be found and that the Dutchman has been subject of a criminal act.

"There is nothing in the investigation that gives us the basis for drawing conclusions about some of the hypotheses. Nor are there any hypotheses that can be emphasized stronger than others."

Last known observation of Arjen Kamphuis was August 20th. Then he checked out of Scandic Bodø. He had an air ticket from Trondheim on August 22 and was going to Amsterdam. The police have reason to believe that he took the local train from Bodø to Rognan after check-out of the hotel. Departure from Bodø was 16.05 and arrival Rognan was 17.29.

This article contains a photo of the/a paddle. It's not clear whether it's supposed to be the found paddle. It seems to be of a different brand?
Paddels found that may have been from Arjen Kamphuis (46) - Navva

I still hope Arjen is alive and well.

This is a different brand.

Arjen had a Oru Coast XT kayak. The paddle that goes with it has ORU and KAYAK on the blades.

The article says: photo police .... well I wonder about that. Probably not. [ I was wrong here.]

Seems more logical that AK would buy the lightweight paddle that goes with the kayak. This is the ORU paddle:

Possible findings in Kamphuis disappearance

The police in Nordland stated in a press release that a private person has delivered a paddle trail that may have belonged to the missing Wikileaks associate Arjen Kamphuis, who was last seen in Bodø on August 20th. The police have reason to believe that the years belong to Kamphuis because it was found in the same area as the kayak they believe should be his, and it should also be of the same brand.

Confusion all around.

Kamphuis would have bought a paddle of the brand Werner OR he would have bought a paddle of the same brand as the kayak.

’Peddel vermiste Arjen Kamphuis gevonden’

The police have reason to assume that the paddle is from Kamphuis, because it is of the same brand as the paddle that Kamphuis bought just before he left for Norway.

Werner is a brand that specializes in paddles.
If AK bought a specific paddle, IMHO he was serious about kayaking.

Part of the theory about him boarding a cargo vessel near Fauske is that AKL wasn't interested in kayaking at all.
If he wasn't interested, why buy a new expensive kayak with specific paddles from another, specialist brand?

Surely, if you want to disappear, there are cheaper ways to to so?

How can it be that no one saw him in Bodo? Did the maids clean the hotel room? Did they see any signs of occupancy? How stange.
Not new here therefor dont bother to welcome
me here! I changed my internet profider and had to get a new email
I see you all caught up in AKs case as do I after I was present during a speech he gave a while ago
To answer your questions, police, reporters and friends are searching for him. They started in Bodø The hotelstaff is intervieuwed Ofcourse not all of the facts of this investigation will be made public

How can you check out from a hotel if you did not check in, or you did check in but no one noticed?

Seems to me that this part of the theory is very theoretical (cough). The police have his bank data and they know what he has been doing. They know where his phone pinged. And when he bought the train ticket. There have been tips from the Bodø area too.

Update from the Police – missing person Arjen Kamphuis

This weekend the police has carried out searches in the sea between Fauske and Rognan with assistance from The Norwegian Coastguard. The searches this weekend has not resulted in any new findings. Further searches will be carried out in the area today, and are scheduled to be finished at the end of the day. No further searches are planned in the area for the coming week.

A paddle oar, which might belong to Mr. Kamphuis, has been found by a member of the public, and was handed to the police this weekend. We have reason to believe that the paddle oar belongs to Mr. Kamphuis as it was found in the same area as the kayak, and is of the same brand as a paddle oar that he purchased in the Netherlands prior to traveling to Norway. The police is now investigating the circumstances of this finding.

Close to a hundred tips has been brought to the police during the investigation. Most of the the tips are about observations of a person fitting the description of Mr. Kamphuis. None of these tips have so far been verified. The last certain observation is the 20th of August.

We are familiar with press articles discussing the possibility of the missing person having been on board in a cargo ship leaving Rognan in one of the days after August 20th. This tip is along with many other tips being investigated further by the police.

The police is continously following up on every tip, and is conducting the investigation with the necessary steps of the investigation. In order not to contribute to speculations, the police choose not to comment on the specific content of the different tips we are receiving.

According to the item written by A. van Dongen, the receptionists were the only ones who saw Arjen. That was when he checked in and when he checked out.

About the paddle: perhaps Arjen was not satisfied with the ORU paddles, with their shape and therefore he decided to buy another model.

My first thought when I September 1th saw Wikileak's first tweet about AK, that he was in Hangar number 1 in Keflavik International Airport in Iceland, but I also have a lively imagination. :eek:o_O
Hahaha lol, that's funny but I do hope he is safe somewhere...out there!

Witness saw Arjen Kamphuis in Rognan on August 20

ROGNAN (TV 2): When the man heard about the missing Wikileaks employee, he immediately contacted the police to tell him what he had seen.

"I was very stunned where he walked, with two big bags on him, and there was no doubt that he was wearing something heavy," says an eyewitness, who saw the missing Arjen Kamphuis in Rognan to TV 2.

It is Monday, August 20th and the time is around half past six. It's been a short time since the local train from Bodø to Rognan has arrived at the station. From the train comes the Dutch Wikileaks associate.

At the same time, what is one of the police's safest witnesses is on the way from Saltdalshallen and on the way to Rognan center.

TV 2 has talked to the man who does not want his name and photo published:

"I had picked up my daughter on training and drove the same road that goes from the train station and down to Rognan center. Then I see a man walking with something that looks like a big bump under the arm and a big bag on the back walking along the walkway. He looks like a backpacker or as a bohemian," says the witness in an exclusive interview with TV 2.

"He did not fit into the typical environment here at Rognan, so I noticed this person," explains the witness.

He has an apartment complex located in the harbor at Rognan. This Monday there is the football game on television.

"I and some friends are looking at the game Bodø / Glimt. Between two games I get up and look from the window and beyond the harbor. Then I see the same person coming on the road and down to the shore with the same bags, says the witness.

- What time is it then?

"About 20 in the evening. I notice that there is some activity on the dock in connection with the loading of fiber cables from the local cable factory here at Rognan," the witness says.

- What are you thinking?

"I thought he would probably work with the local boat builder who often receives trainees," he explains.

Around 21 o'clock he looks again from the window. Then he will see the person in the same area.

"This time he has no luggage with him as he walks towards the shore again," he explains.

When he hears about it missing Arjen Kamphuis ten days later, he contacts the police in Bodø to tell about his observations and is called for questioning.

September 11th, a recreational fisherman finds an empty kayak and what is probably the Kamphuis's id-papers in the sea at the Kvænfjåget mountain in Skjerstadfjorden.

Hahaha lol,that's funny
I built a big scenario about AK's Wikileaks / Assange relations and the Ribe observations after I found some new pieces for my Wikileaks/Assange/FBI/Grand Jury 2010/
Iceland puzzle. I will spare you for my scenario as it is not useful in this case and yet I will link this wonderful story about some key people in the Wikileaks complex as it is a delight for people bitten by a crazy investigator.
If you are not killed by google translate, it will make you stronger....

Deduction: At 20:00-21:00 hours, Arjen handed over his belonings to personnel of the cargo ship and remained without?

He was wearing light coloured clothing when he disappeared. Leisurewear.
His hair is very bohemian, IMHO.

BTW I have been wondering who you were in your previous life on WS.

Bizarre details in vermissingszaak Arjen Kamphuis

About boarding the ship ... in this video (in Dutch) the reporter tells that he checked with the shipping company, and yes a vessel was being loaded on that day.
They also told him that one would need an ID to get on board, and without an ID this would be impossible.

Arjen's ID was found in the water. The harbour of Rognan is small, and the cargo vessel wasn't big either. Little chance of living there unseen as a stowaway.
