Id want to drain the whole remaining lake and collect all the remains... i know it is a major nature desaster and the lake serves many places as reservoir and for hydroelectrics, but i secretly hope it will eventually dry up enough that all the remains can be secured before the water eventually comes back.

Skeletal remains found in drought-stricken Lake Mead in May have been identified as those of a 42-year-old man who was reported to have drowned two decades ago, a coroner has found.

The Clark County coroner/medical examiner identified the remains found at Callville Bay as those of Thomas Erndt, of Las Vegas, county spokesman Dan Kulin said.

Erndt was reported to have drowned Aug. 2, 2002, he said.

An older article from 2013. One of two bodies recovered from presumed lake drownings

“When visiting Lake Mead National Recreation Area, boaters should be cognizant of the weather forecast,” she said. “Lake conditions can change in an instant, which is why swimmers are advised to wear a life jacket.”

It can sometimes take months for a body to be recovered. The body of Antonio Tucker, a 28-year-old staff sergeant stationed at Creech Air Force Base in Indian Springs, jumped into the lake without a life jacket June 23, 2012. His body wasn’t recovered until April.

According to Vanover, four bodies that were reported missing at Lake Mead since 2000 have never been recovered.

On Aug. 2, 2002, Thomas Erndt went missing near Callville Bay. Vincent Petrilena disappeared May 23, 2004, near Grebe Bay, while Kenneth Eldon Funk went missing June 19, 2004, in Boulder Basin.

William Gurule apparently drowned Nov. 9, 2010, near Iceberg Rapid on the Colorado River.

These two incidents are the second and third presumed drownings of 2013. Autopsy results are still pending for William H. Meyer, 52, of Las Vegas who died June 1 after surfacing from a scuba dive unresponsive.

There were 18 deaths at Lake Mead in 2012, eight of which were drownings. Since 2000, 114 people have drowned at the lake, not including this year.

That are a lot of people missing and/or drowning. I hope they can identify all the remains and family can finally arrange for a decent burial.

According to Steve Schafer, a local resident and the owner of environmental services company Earth Resource Group, which is working to uncover the bodies, there will be many more.

"There are a lot of bodies which have still not been found at the bottom of Lake Mead. Most are just legitimately drowning victims but I'm sure there are some nefarious ones out there, like the news is reporting and the [body in the] barrel. I'm sure there are going to be more," Schafter told the Las Vegas Review Journal.

Even before the water levels began dropping, Lake Mead was considered one of America's deadliest national parks. Since the lake was created in the 1930s, around 300 people have drowned in the reservoir. This figure is on top of any other bodies that died from other means that may be in the lake.

Schafer said they work to uncover the bodies to "give back to the families" who lost them. Since 2013, Schafer and other volunteers have pulled 10 to 12 bodies from the lake.

Does "Ethnicity other" mean "ethnicity unknown"?

new lead on the body in the barrel:

A possible new lead has surfaced in the case of the human remains found inside a barrel at Lake Mead this spring. A woman named Barbara Brock has told KVVU-TV/Las Vegas that she believes it’s her brother, Robert Eugene Shaw.
Brock last saw him driving to Las Vegas from Fontana, Calif., on May 14, 1977. The description of the body, the age at death — Shaw was 38 — and the time frame of death all match the facts of the case.
"When they found the first body in the barrel, I just knew it was him,” Brock told the station. “I still feel it is him.”

It seems hes the most suspected identity apart from the guy who very famously went missing.

WHO WAS ROBERT EUGENE SHAW?

News broke last week that police were seeking DNA samples from relatives of Bobbi Eugene Shaw a.k.a. Robert Shaw. Investigators believe Shaw may be the murder victim found in a barrel at Lake Mead in May of this year. Shaw’s sister, Barbara Brock, told reporters that her brother went missing in 1977. Brock also said her brother had ties to the Mafia - a particularly interesting fact given that the body found in a barrel at Lake Mead killed by a gunshot wound to the head bears the hallmarks of a gangland slaying.

We recently reported on the lack of information surrounding Shaw and his mysterious disappearance. The only reference we could locate in the Las Vegas newspaper archives were mention of a Robert E. Shaw that was arrested in 1976 during a strike on the Strip by the Culinary Union. This reference, coupled with the method of disposal in a barrel, immediately conjured thoughts of Culinary Union boss Al Bramlet, who suffered his own untimely end in the desert outside of Las Vegas in 1977 after refusing to pay a hitman team for a series of bombings of non-union restaurants around Vegas during the mid-70’s.

Further research clarified some of Shaw’s background but also resulted in more unanswered questions.

etc.

Even more interesting is that a post was made on the popular true crime site WebSleuths about Robert Shaw’s disappearance on May 4, 2022 - only three days after an unidentified body in a barrel was discovered at Lake Mead. Perhaps the poster knew something more than the rest of us about the body in the barrel, since authorities did not release info about Robert “Bobbi” Shaw being the potential identify of the person in the barrel until early August of this year.

The body of a woman has been found in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area this week, while a bone discovered in the reservoir is now being investigated as human remains.

''The National Park Service received reports of a missing woman on October 15. The 39-year-old had last been seen in the back bay of Katherine Landing Marina on Lake Mohave, part of the Lake Mead recreation area.

The following day at 2:45 p.m., a body was found in Lake Mohave by dive teams. The woman, who has not been named, was not wearing a life jacket, according to the NPS. The death is being investigated as a drowning.

"Drownings are the No 1 cause of unintentional deaths at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Many of these could have been prevented if people were wearing life jackets," an park service spokesperson told Newsweek.''

''CNN —
After a diver found what appeared to be a human bone in Lake Mead, the park searched the area and uncovered more human remains, the National Park Service confirmed Wednesday.

The diver, who is a private business operator at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, found the bone in the Callville Bay area of Lake Mead on October 17, according to park spokesperson Stefani Dawn. The next day, a park dive team searched the area and “confirmed the finding of human skeletal remains,” Dawn said.

The finding marks at least the sixth time human remains have been uncovered at the lake this year, many due to the lake’s dropping water levels from prolonged drought. Some of the discoveries have only been partial sets, so it is unclear how many people’s remains have been found.''

'The Clark County Coroner's Office, which is handling the remains found this year, previously told CNN that medical examiners were still working to determine whether the partial sets were from separate people.

It is unclear if the bone found on October 17 and the remains found on October 18 belong to the same person.

"At this time, no foul play is suspected,
" Dawn said. "The Clark County coroner's office has been contacted to confirm the identity of the deceased."
