Even from online photos, it is clear this is a man, I think. It should be interesting to see if this is linked to a known missing person case or not.

Interesting....so in this picture you can see it's a man? You must be a specialist. (don't want to sound nasty, btw) Can you elaborate or post pictures that it's clear this is man.

I prefer to wait on LE reports...they will know sooner or later.....and much more.

and for the possibility this person was lowered down in the lake....they might have still been living....horrible but we can't know....Legs have been separated from the body...I think it's likely this person was already "gone".

"The lake has drained dramatically over the last 15 years," Spencer said, noting that "it's likely that we will find additional bodies that have been dumped in Lake Mead" as the water level drops more.

"The barrel was likely dropped hundreds of yards off the shore back then," Spencer said, "but that area is now considered the shoreline."

So, unless it was a watch with year display, a watch alone cannot determine the exact year the crime was committed. The model and/or serial number can tell us it was on or prior to a specific date, but not an exact time frame the crime occurred.

True. The same goes for loose change, a Walkman, etc. It's possible that the person's wallet with ID cards was in the barrel, though. The expiration dates on charge cards or a driver's license would provide a fairly narrow window of time. People don't normally carry around expired charge cards.

I do... in case I forget my keys at home, I can open the service door with a CC.

As to the wallet, I don't think there was a wallet with ID cards, or the investigators wouldn't have "to scan missing persons cases from the 1980s to search for clues" as stated in the article.

It must have been something very specific... as someone who loves vintage items and wears/carries them all the time, I can't think of an item that could reveal that kind of information.
