Her dad made a public post on FB showing some photos from the funeral, and her gravesite at the cemetery. :(

Yes. I saw that. The local funeral home gave the family the funeral at cost. The flowers were beautiful. It is so sad. This is a fantastic family. Her father has posted every step of his journey, from passing out flyers, looking for Naomi, to the heartbreaking news of the police discovery of Naomi's body. And the funeral.

Do they think td walked to Walmart from the spot he dumped her car at? Assuming his truck was there waiting. Premeditated for sure, probably for some time?

Assuming that they know, LE have not divulged where his truck was parked when he showed up Walmart, and where he returned to it after dumping Naomi's car, but it almost certainly was within short walking distance, and many here feel it was parked either at the Lowes, next to Sherwin Williams, or one of the other businesses in that business area, which may be a half mile from Walmart. As to premeditated, it was most definitely that, as he waited until she got there, then circled around the lot after spotting her, coming up from behind and quickly forcing her to move over to the passenger seat before driving away with her. Clearly stalking his prey, imo. Many here feel like, as do I, that perhaps TD had been stalking her for at least some period of time before that Saturday morning. But premeditation does not have to be planned well in advance. Premeditation can be decided in an instant. I would argue that after shooting her one time, premeditation to commit murder could occur in the instant before he put the weapon to her head or chest and shot her a second time. Also, if guilty of this crime, as seems to be the case, then he was a convicted felon in possession of a firearm while committing a felony kidnapping. If she was even accidentally killed during the commission of the crime, which clearly she wasn't, he could and should still be put away for life. JMO

I definitely feel these crimes were premeditated but Naomi being targeted/stalked, I'm not convinced of. Can you share what facts lead you to believe she was targeted? If targeting is true, I would bet there are others. I'm most interested in where or how the initial contact occurred.
On another note I talked to my son last night as he was driving across Nevada to California. He was only about 30 miles from Fernley. He said it was the most desolate place he had ever been. He said you could drive 50 miles or more and never see another vehicle.

I didn't state she was definitely targeted, just that many here have expressed that belief, and that I hold that belief as well. I cannot speak for anyone else, but for me, his behavior on that Saturday seemed to indicate that she was the one he was going to abduct that day, specifically her. He was there before she arrived, and while there were seemingly not a lot of vehicles in the parking lot, there were some. But he seemed to be waiting for or looking for someone specific, by his actions. We know that he walked right through headlights of a car at one point, so we know that vehicle was occupied by someone, though we do not know if it was male, female, or both. With the Panasonic bus due to arrive within a short period of time, it is logical to assume that there were probably others in the lot waiting in cars as well, but TD walked to his spot on the sidewalk and stared directly at her car, before looping around and taking her. It is certainly possible that was the first time he had ever laid eyes on Naomi, but I believe he had seen her before, perhaps at the convenience store where she stopped for her energy drink, and had a reason for knowing she would be going to that parking lot to catch a shuttle in that early hour. Maybe he spoke to her, maybe he saw her Panasonic shirt and put two and two together, I don't know. I just feel like she was his planned target that day, and only her. And yes, I think there very well may be others. I doubt he kept his nose clean for a decade after getting out of prison for an accessory to murder charge, only to wake up one day to decide he was going to abduct and kill someone. And again, this is only my opinion!

I agree, this wasn't a crime of opportunity, it was planned and I believe he planned the abduction with Naomi in as the target. It's possible he had just planned an abduction, got up that morning and went for whoever was first in the parking lot, but I feel that he first picked a victim and then made his plan.

I agree. This looked like a plan. There was nothing random about how confidently he walked to her car and opened the door.

It makes me wonder if the lock didn't work on the car door? Had he messed with it? Or did he know it did not work? How did he know that the door would be unlocked? And he could overtake Naomi so quickly?

My own theory (speculation) is:
+ TD encountered Naomi by chance at some point before the abduction and fantasized about her (as he had about many women he encountered randomly). My guess is the gas station where she got coffee - and that TD randomly encountered her more than once prior to that Saturday.
+ Something gave TD an idea of her routine (Panasonic t-shirt? Naomi FaceTiming with a friend and mentioning the shuttle? Something else?) and this gave TD the confidence to fantasize about abducting her.
+ TD went to the Walmart lot more than once at shuttle time to gather the ‘courage’ to abduct her; and somehow decided that Saturday was the day.

While I think TD is a really bad dude, my own speculation is actually NOT that he has many prior victims (at least of this nature), but rather that he had a rich (sick) fantasy life and something happened that led him to believe he could act on that fantasy with Naomi.

Thanks for the answers, and I agree that it certainly seems he went straight for her. I just need to know where he first saw her and decided he was going to abduct her. That info could help other women be more aware of how they become vulnerable. And how to avoid it. To me it's a dangling detail I wish we could tie up. Maybe something will come out in trial or LE will share more info. Actually for me personally there are several dangling details I'd like to have an answer to. JMO

I've posted maps of the route that Troy Driver took to work, via Fernley, and the maps that Naomi took to work in Fernley. The place where she stopped for jolt drinks at 5 AM is the same gas station that is on his way to work in Reno or points north towards Elko. He was a mine supervisor, and there are mines throughout the area of Fallon/Fernley/Reno/Elko/Iron Mine Road, where he lived.

I think he first saw her at Fox Peak convenience store. She had a routine of stopping at the convenience store, going to the Walmart parking lot, talking to overseas friends for 20 minutes, looking for the shuttle. Because she had a routine, she was an easier victim.

Walmart was on the route for both Naomi and Troy to get to work, except Troy didn't go to work on Saturday. Naomi was abducted on a Saturday morning.

For Troy to be so focused on Naomi's car at the Walmart parking lot - to have hidden his car somewhere off the Walmart parking lot before looking for her - we know that Walmart is not the first time he's thinking about Naomi. The only other place that Troy Driver could have first seen Naomi is the Fox Peak convenience gas store.

I wonder if he could have first seen her at the gas station store where she picked up her morning drink? I think I read elsewhere that that was part of her morning routine? She maybe "knew" the clerk from frequent visits and maybe chatted with them about having to catch the shuttle. Just making small talk. That could've tipped of TD. That could be why he knew where to look.

Unless he saw her online. She was meeting people online.

Could TD have known Naomi from online conversations, and known of her work and transportation schedule, etc?

ETA Just saw that someone else posted that they could have met online.

It's more logical to me that he saw her picture and profile online than he ran in to her at a gas station at 5 a.m. on a weekend. But, logic doesn't seem to be a factor in the crimes.

You may very well be right. That is as valid a thought as any. I think his computer, if he had one at home, may reveal a lot about his deviant proclivities, but I just don't see him as the type of guy that spends time trolling for girls online. I see him as more the hunter who wants to find his prey in the physical world, then track it down. If you recall, his first brush with the law, at age 12, was for hunting, out of season. We probably won't get the answers to some of these questions, at least until he goes to trial, and we may never know how and when he first laid eyes on Naomi, and whether she was a planned abduction and kill, or whether she was just an unlucky random victim, but as you said in an earlier post, I hope that we get those answers, as they may help the next girl. I agree and what makes me feel that way is the fact that if he found her online he would have had to have had access to enough info to stalk and learn her routine to commit the crime as it appears to have happened. If he saw her almost anywhere else he could just follow her and leave her unaware.

And the care the funeral home took in preparing the grave site was remarkable. I have never been to a funeral where the grass/sod was removed and then carefully replaced after the casket was lowered. Everything was so beautiful.

Totally agree.
As a mom who has waited in my car in parking lots countless hours, to pick up kids from their activities… People have no idea how visible they are in a parked car. And they are VERY visible when it’s dark outside and everyone can see your face lit up by your phone. Especially if you are FaceTiming, holding the phone out so your caller isn’t looking up at you from your lap.

The advice I’ve read was to be super aware of your surroundings when loading kids/groceries in and out of your car. As soon as you get inside, lock the doors. Try not to dawdle in your car and start driving as soon as you get in.
Also, they suggest not adhering to a regular routine, so your presence is less predictable. But how realistic is that, when you have a full time job?
Instead of warning tips for potential victims, I wish I could share tips for police to take stalking seriously.
