Hi! Just spoke with Naegle and she is comfortable with me posting what I found in my travels today (thank you Naegle!).
First off, I feel I must report that the food at IHOP still sux much as ever, IMO. But the people and information were great!
Arrived at IHOP and were seated. Stopped the manager as he was passing by our table and handed him Steven's poster. He sat right down and we spoke for a bit. He felt he had seen Steven a couple of weeks ago and that he appeared to be "mad." As in angry - but he SAID "mad." Steven sat down and started making a bit of a scene - to where all the other customers were looking at him. Left shortly thereafter. Asked me if Steven might have been thinner than he appears in the picture as he thought the guy he was thinking of was thinner. I told him I felt that was quite possible and probably very likely. Manager called over one of the servers and showed her the poster, asking her if she remembered what he was remembering. She agreed and thought it was the same person also.
I asked the manager if he would put Steven's poster up where people could see it (I didn't see one although someone else was there yesterday and left one). He said he would.
Bout halfway through our lunch, the manager came back - with a different server and asked her to tell me what she knew. She said she was certain Steven is the man who comes in frequently when she's working the GRAVEYARD SHIFT - 10 PM to 6 AM. He drinks raspberry tea, one after another, and sleeps with his head on the counter. She doesn't charge him for the tea and she says he likes her. She is not afraid of him, but does not believe he is well.
She says he always wears a baseball cap, suit jacket and.....CARRIES A BLACK CASE!!!
Oh my stars - I nearly fell off the dang chair! Anyway....I asked them if there was sort of homeless "camp" in the area. Oh yes, says the manager, and tells us exactly where it is!
Thanked the ALL very much and left (yes, we paid first) - seeing Steven's poster now up on the front entrance window.
We then went to check out the off/on ramps to the 515 off of Flamingo - as this is normally where I see the panhandlers. I'm not good at guaging distances, but I would say these ramps are not even a mile (west) from the IHOP. But no luck seeing Steven there today - or anyone else for that matter.
Then went back to Boulder Highway in search of the homeless camp. Which is roughly a mile to a mile and half north of the IHOP. We did have a little Starsky & Hutch detour, which I will not go into here. It's really not important to the story....
Found the camp area and verified, it definitely looks like what they told us it was. We didn't see any people, but we did see signs of people. I was able to give Naegle the exact address of this location and sincerely feel it will be worthwhile for LE to check it out.
Miscellaneous info - there are numerous bus stops in this area - and specifically one right in front of the IHOP. There are also a few of those cheap weekly/montly apartment type places around, though I'm not feeling that's what we need to be looking at here.
There are 3 major casinos in fairly close proximity here also. I do feel it's possible that Steven could be spending some time there, if he is, in fact, this area.
I think that's it. Thoughts?
