Where is this IHOP? In Vegas?

I'm only curious because I was there a couple years ago, and wonder if I was anywhere near it.

This is found on Help us find Steven Koecher FB Page:

Does Steven have any identifying marks/tattoos or wear glasses. I took my grandsons to IHOP on Bldr. Hwy./Flamingo last Friday evening for dinner and a young man that looked sinilar to Steven sat across from us. He was very obviously disoriented. He wore tinted glasses, had what looked like numbers on his neck and r...ight leg. He was very restless, up and down, away from his table. He told the waitress he wanted "the same thing as last night" which turned out to be 3 or 4 glasses of iced tea. Apparently this young man has been going to that IHOP, you might check with the staff there.

I spent two hours last night catching my husband up to speed, so he could understand my obsession. This morning he says, "I dreamt about that Steven guy all night!" :) He is just as/if not more interested than I am now.

Naegle said it was at Boulder Highway and Flamingo Blvd, which would be
4860 Boulder Highway.

It looks like ground zero for fast food restaurants in Las Vegas. There's also a Budget Suites and Motel 6 nearby. My mapping software says Pizza Hut is right next door.

Hi! Just spoke with Naegle and she is comfortable with me posting what I found in my travels today (thank you Naegle!).

First off, I feel I must report that the food at IHOP still sux much as ever, IMO. But the people and information were great!

Arrived at IHOP and were seated. Stopped the manager as he was passing by our table and handed him Steven's poster. He sat right down and we spoke for a bit. He felt he had seen Steven a couple of weeks ago and that he appeared to be "mad." As in angry - but he SAID "mad." Steven sat down and started making a bit of a scene - to where all the other customers were looking at him. Left shortly thereafter. Asked me if Steven might have been thinner than he appears in the picture as he thought the guy he was thinking of was thinner. I told him I felt that was quite possible and probably very likely. Manager called over one of the servers and showed her the poster, asking her if she remembered what he was remembering. She agreed and thought it was the same person also.

I asked the manager if he would put Steven's poster up where people could see it (I didn't see one although someone else was there yesterday and left one). He said he would.

Bout halfway through our lunch, the manager came back - with a different server and asked her to tell me what she knew. She said she was certain Steven is the man who comes in frequently when she's working the GRAVEYARD SHIFT - 10 PM to 6 AM. He drinks raspberry tea, one after another, and sleeps with his head on the counter. She doesn't charge him for the tea and she says he likes her. She is not afraid of him, but does not believe he is well.

She says he always wears a baseball cap, suit jacket and.....CARRIES A BLACK CASE!!!

Oh my stars - I nearly fell off the dang chair! Anyway....I asked them if there was sort of homeless "camp" in the area. Oh yes, says the manager, and tells us exactly where it is!

Thanked the ALL very much and left (yes, we paid first) - seeing Steven's poster now up on the front entrance window. :)

We then went to check out the off/on ramps to the 515 off of Flamingo - as this is normally where I see the panhandlers. I'm not good at guaging distances, but I would say these ramps are not even a mile (west) from the IHOP. But no luck seeing Steven there today - or anyone else for that matter.

Then went back to Boulder Highway in search of the homeless camp. Which is roughly a mile to a mile and half north of the IHOP. We did have a little Starsky & Hutch detour, which I will not go into here. It's really not important to the story....

Found the camp area and verified, it definitely looks like what they told us it was. We didn't see any people, but we did see signs of people. I was able to give Naegle the exact address of this location and sincerely feel it will be worthwhile for LE to check it out.

Miscellaneous info - there are numerous bus stops in this area - and specifically one right in front of the IHOP. There are also a few of those cheap weekly/montly apartment type places around, though I'm not feeling that's what we need to be looking at here.

There are 3 major casinos in fairly close proximity here also. I do feel it's possible that Steven could be spending some time there, if he is, in fact, this area.

I think that's it. Thoughts?

I have thoughts but out of respect for the family, I will not post them publicly.

What did the IHOP staff say about tattoos? There was reference to the iced tea drinker having tattoos.

Didn't ask about tattoos and they didn't mention any.

I wonder if it is him if he will return when he sees the missing poster on the door. If this person does return will the server or manager contact LE? :waitasec:

Wow! Hopefully this will help lead them to finding him!
Great work Fairy!!

I wonder though if posting his picture in the front window of the IHOP would scare him away from coming in there?

I worry about that.
Perhaps it could be hung next to the cash register or in the employee lounge so they can call LE if he shows up?

Every major corner in Vegas is fast food central!

Fairy1, that is a lot of good info. If it's the right guy.

Now back to the address of the IHOP. My thought is that he probably works within walking distance.

I'll be back if I find anything relevant.

-----------

Thanx laytonian for the address. We stayed at the Wynn and mostly stayed in the area (other than a trip to the old strip... and the wedding chapel). :)

Good job Fairy1!

lol great minds and all;)

fairy1:

Thank you so much for that sleuthing trip to IHOP.

Will family go down to IHOP tonight, after 10pm?
Does the IHOP man carry on conversations with the waitress?
... discussions about how Las Vegas has grown or how he likes to go
hiking....
Has he ever opened the black case while having his iced tea?

Does this IHOP have security cameras?
Do the adjoining fast food restaurants have security cameras?

I think you're right.
The "missing" poster should "back of house" (where the employees are).
Let them be familiar with it, and they can call 911 when the guy shows up again.

NAEGLE:
Has Steven ever had his fingerprints or DNA taken?

I'm thinking that next time this guy shows up, the waitress should be instructed to not touch his drinking glass until he leaves......and then pick it up by the inside only, with plastic on her hands.

I did ask them to call LV Metro, as the IHOP is in LV - not Henderson. And because there is some question as to his mental state.

There was some speculation as to whether Steven was asked not to return to the IHOP due to his sleeping. No one at the restaurant mentioned it. That being said, it seems to have been at least a week since Steven was there, so I suppose it could be true. I really didn't get that vibe, though.

The thing is, if Steven is somewhere in that area, it's not because he loves that IHOP, IMO. If he is staying in that general area on a regular basis, someone will see him. Maybe not someone working at IHOP, but someone entering IHOP, which would be a lot more people. I didn't see Steven's posters anywhere else I went today. :( Not sure how we're going to find him if no one knows he's missing.

Well I'd say that that is more of a positive ID than we got from the video...

Thanks Fairy1!!!

Good job!
Now....is that black case a previously-known "clue" to his identity?

Wow. Interesting!

Well now my theories are very weird. I don't even know what to think now.

he was carrying a portfolio of some sort in the video. Not that I was able to see it, but that was how it was described by LE

Probably a long shot but anyone willing to question any of the homeless in the area if they recognize the picture of Steven?

No lengthy conversations - she said he sleeps most of the time he's there.

She didn't say anything about the contents of the case, but it sounds as if he's very attached to it and it's the only thing he carries with him.

I told Naegle that I would not be visiting that IHOP during the graveyard shift - and suggested that only someone with a gun do so. So, I'm not sure about family visits.

I'm not LE so I didn't go into the security cameras or anything of that nature, but I'm quite sure there are plenty of cameras in the vacinity. LE is going to have to tackle that one as I don't believe I have the power to demand places of business show me their surveillance tapes for the last month!

For all I know, they took Steven's poster down as soon as I left. But I'm comfortable with it being there. IF this is Steven, he seems not to be himself. KWIM? That poster may not even register with him.

I mean, he doesn't even seem to know he's not supposed to be drinking tea...
