Thanks for your experience annalyzer!! Steven being missing voluntarily is definitely a possibility. It is of course possible for him to have walked away from his car with the intention of not coming back, but why not straight down Savannah Springs? Why the turn and where was he headed???

His family is still looking for him and looking for a big audience, so we are still looking too....

I have not read the whole thread but has anyone else considered Steven may have gone missing voluntarily? This is a good example (at link). We would still think he was missing if he hadn't tried to get a passport. He was a co-worker of mine at Walmart where he was a dept. mgr. His car was found at the bus station with some important items still in it. His bank accounts were never accessed and he never picked up his last paycheck or the bonus pay we all were looking so forward to. We all thought the worst had happened to him.

Steven probably took his passport (and I don't think we ever got verification if his birth certificate is missing) so that he can find employment down the road. I think he just wants time and distance from his family and friends from Utah.

Here is why I don't think that it is a car.

One can clearly see the sidewalk in the van's window reflection, you can see whomever it is walking down the sidewalk as the shadow against the wall is short and dark, if one was on the street the shadow against the wall would be a bit longer and not so dark. When the person on the tape gets to the dark spot on the reflection they walk in front of it but still on the sidewalk and they keep walking on past that spot.

I don't know what that dark spot is, but my opinion it isn't a car as it would have had to have been parked on the other side of the sidewalk and not on the street. It can't be a reflection of a car parked on the street right where the reflection on the van's window ends because the shadows are not going in the correct direction for that.

Enchanting_eyes.

Thanks for that.

"The only clue to his whereabouts was a bus ticket stub with a New Orleans destination." <----and that's exactly where Lott was.

Steven going missing voluntarily is our biggest hope. Unfortunately, we don't have a big clue, like that bus ticket (that we are aware of). Evidently, his family has no clues, either...because they're looking for him, too.

Steven already has a current passport, and if it had been used, there'd be a record.

I think there should be a rule when someone goes missing on purpose: they should send a postcard home saying "I'm OK....don't worry. Maybe I'll be back later". Even if they have to have it mailed through one of those anonymous remailers. Heck, there's even internet remailers who'll do that for you.

O/T There is a proposal for something like this...you can google search for something called "maliciously missing."

I don't think it is a car either. A car would have blocked the view of the sidewalk which is still visible despite the dark area.

What if the car was half-parked on the sidewalk, avoiding a sideswipe? Steven's shadow (and that of the job in the wall) was pointing NNE, so the sun's shining directly on the curb.

Whether it's a car or not: How come that "white figure" is so much lighter than everything in front and back of it?

OK, that's the last from me on this. I take the Paris_Paris pledge. Oh, wait ;)

What if the dark spot is just a shadow from the other side of the street - like a car or something large being there casting a large shadow - & SK is passing in front of that shadow - don't know if this is really plausible but just throwing another idea out there.

Not sure if you already have such a map or would find this map useful to link to seeing as it is in speculative order re Steven's travel prior to Las Vegas.

"Red Balloon: 12/11 Maverik Country Store $13.10/bank post/purchase likely 12/09-10/receipt verified"

You're saying you have "receipt verified" information on the three purchases?

BBM

There is a post somewhere on thread #2 that lists the receipts.....the map is speculative....which is why I wrote "not sure......if useful". Should have been a couple speculative maps re various locations/adjusted times but looks like it didn't save properly.

It might be of interest to anyone that may want to visualize the areas of Steven's travel over the days prior to his going missing. Maps are not an uncommon exchange on WS.......was surprised to see there were so few on Steven's threads.

I love the map capoly-it floored me to get a sense of the extent and the overlap.

Just to clear the air:
I wasn't challenging your map or your data. When I saw the statement about 'receipt' on your map, I was hopeful. That's why I asked the question.

Naegle's post in thread #2, is where I got the receipts information for the timeline. I only included those which she says they have verified purchase times for (with the Maverik receipt being on the list of "posted", not an actual receipt).

Didn't take your post as a challenge to map.....caught your tone of hope. Just wanted to make it clear it was speculative so others didn't perceive it as fact.

Just an fyi....for health reasons there are times when it takes me a while to type a post so sometimes posts are short and not as clear as should be.

BBM That is why it be nice to have date of actual purchase and specific locales re Maverik Country Store and Tosaro (?sp). The Pilot in Wendover appears to be the only one in that area.

imo It does appear that Steven was conscientious re gas and that he traveled quite a bit/overlapped within a SLC radius.

Yet did not visit family or friends????

Sorry to be persistent, but why was everyone going "hmmm" over GW's pic a few pages back?

Hi ya'll. Just returned from Sun City Anthem and took a few pics for the timeline (e-mailed to Laytonian). All the pics I took on Savannah Springs are from just about where Steven's car was found - I didn't want to park directly in front of the house in case anyone found my being there "appalling" KWIM?

Just my thoughts after seeing this area with my own eyes. Totally agree with Naegle that there's no way Steven - or anyone else - would have been in this spot randomly. There are numerous other streets to turn into not nearly as far into Anthem. And as far as just abandoning the car goes, it just doesn't make any sense! There are boat loads of shopping and medical centers on either side of Eastern before you get into Anthem. There's no need to go that far into Anthem and out of Henderson. And it doesn't make any sense to me to have had someone pick him up there either. I also don't see this as a logical dumping ground for a car thief - it's just too far from anything!

Saw lots of folks walking and jogging all over the place - but no one right there on Savannah Springs and Evening Lights. Seemed pretty quiet round there.

I took a picture of the type of mailbox we discussed earlier - literally feet behind where Steven's car was found (there's a fire hydrant just a few feet in front of where the car was). As you go back down Savannah Springs and turn left onto Evening Lights, there's another mailbox just a bit down the street. Both of these had Steven's poster on the side. The next one a little further didn't. :-(

When we came back out to Laurel Heights, we turned right - away from the entrance of Anthem and followed it until we came to a dead-end. There's a huge patch of desert there that kind of gave me the willies. Took some pics of that too. And I took a picture from there toward the city so you can see just how far out this area is. Just as we were leaving, some kids were heading into this desert on their bikes. Eeeek.

I tried to find a good vantage point to take a pic of the foothills, but couldn't get close enough. Suffice it to say, walking to them from where that car was found would be no picnic and it's possible to get much closer if that was your destination. Same could be said if your destination was back to Henderson. On foot it would be very daunting.

There are LOTS of areas within Anthem I believe should be searched - if they haven't been already. There are some very desert-y, rugged spots. One of them that I saw had a bike/walking trail running through it, but I couldn't tell how far in it would go. There are a lot of very rocky areas inside Anthem and a lot plants and bushes.

Thats all I can think of for now.

??? Not sure what everyone else was seeing - I was just happy to see a picture of him!

Pudd- I say hmm on the GW picture for my own reasons but I'm not ready to share yet.... I want others to have there own thought on it.
Fairy very interesting I have lots of thoughts brewing after your post. Thanks for going btw.
my gosh, I can see SK disappearing on purpose, I can see something going wrong w/whatever he was doing there (& forgive me appalled) with a resident in the area, I can see something going on with GW, I can see him having a nice quite luncheon w/someone about family history (or whatever) & things going wrong or adultnapping(it can happen).....omgosh, so many possibilities.

On that note I have wondered a few times if he met up with, unknow to him, mormon haters or anti-mormons. Some of those people are pretty far out there and what if there were a heated debate or something went wrong. There are some people out there who hate the mormons and think they are a cult and people who went on a mission are just horrible because they steal people away from their families into the cult.

Just thougth I'd throw that one out there, not sure if it has been mentioned before but I have head of religious debates getting pretty escalated.

Fairy & Fasteddy (and who ever else has gone out to the location) correct me if I'm wrong but in the shots that Harleysanna has posted on page 20 or post #497 - the reflection circled in the window - just looks like one of those mailboxes to me - is there a mailbox there?

I don't think so. If you watch the video you can see it's a reflection of someone walking.

the surveillance videos have the answer. only four posibilities exist and only one is the truth:
1. no one (SK and /or Unknown person/s) knew that the surveillance cams existed
2. SK new the surveillance cams existed and knew that Unknown person or persons did not know they existed.
3. Unknown person or persons knew they existed and knew that SK was not aware of them
4. Unknown person or persons INCLUDING SK knew they were there.

From these four infer the highly unlikely to the most probable and then to the highly likely.

the subject thought to be SK in the video shows a noticeable limp as he steps on the left leg and his posture could also indicate injury to the left side of his body possibly the left rib cage and/or left arm. the subject also appears to be built athletically trim yet the clothes seem to fit unusually tight when compared to actual photos of SK showing his build and style of dress w/c doesnt compute in my book IMHO.

and did the girls trying to get into their house positively identilfy SK as the person who tried to help them using SK's cell.
