I don't know if this will help in any of our searches, but I have this link to Google News Archives with papers going back to the 1800's. I don't know the West coast at all, but if any of you do and know papers in the areas, you can maybe see if there is anything of interest in any of them. Maybe adds for events, products, articles, not sure, but want to give you all the link. I use it as a tool for some of my research from time to time.

This obituary has a "contact me" button next to Phil mark's name. Someone can email him. Did anyone already do a people search on him?

We do not know if that person the right one, but the detectives will do the contacting and we have been searching data bases as noted up-thread. The "contact me" is to send a message through the o0bit. website.

IMO

Check in with all of you. My partner and I have been busy running down tips and leads that continue to come in, not only from you amazing people, but from the public after the media from yesterday. I will go through the 10 plus pages that have been added since I last checked in. An update for you all is that I have yet to receive a call back from Philip Mark, I left a message at the last good number for him. Secondly, we are finding that this particular t-shirt appears not only in the SF Bay Area but also in Nevada. I'd say that the majority of information leads us to believe that this t-shirt was more common in the SF Bay Area.

So, what now? Let's stay the course on our missing list. I am working on that daily, refining it and getting rule outs. I know you all want to know the rule outs, but I want to get a complete list first to publish (in the interest of time for me). My partner and I are working on somethings right now that we may need further assistance with and will get back to you tonight.

Finally, thanks is in order again to all of you working so hard on this case. It is the people dedicated to this mission on this forum that is renewing my faith in humanity. Thanks Again!

Respectfully bolded by me (RBBM)

This message sounds so hopeful! There are leads, tips, follow ups, calls, and information to work on - such excellent progress for this person in more than 20 years! It takes a villiage to do many good things. So many possiblities and each day we get closer and closer. I am happy for the Detectives!

that was me, I thought the weave was of good quality, like maybe a sweat shirt.

Me too. If you zoom in on one of the high-res photos on Namus, you can see the material for yourself. I guessed Hanes "beefy" tee, or something similar. I don't think it's quite heavy enough for sweatshirt material.

I just went through all of 1992 Charley Project - I didn't see anyone that fit criteria and had a vague date of disappearance.

Where do you want me to look? Glad to help, but don't want to mess up where we are at the moment.

From your link "
I used to sell a lot of them when I ran Eddyline's retail outlet, and the customers that bought them were universally enthusiastic. "

Hmmm
That's a wholesale customer who carried Mark Pack Works products in his retail store.

I am really surprised at the amount of leads the shirt has generated for the detectives. I was quite skeptical before. I have learned my lesson. lol

Go, MMarty and Icodetectives!

Clifford Raymond Peranteau
Missing since January 20, 1985 from San Francisco, San Francisco County, California.
Classification: Endangered Missing

Timing is off hair looks more reddish brown.then blond as stated on doenetwork

Was from SF area and he was supposed to be going to Lake Tahoe when he disappeared. Circumstances of Disappearance
Clifford was last seen on January 20, 1985 in San Francisco, CA. He is a presumed victim of serial killers Charles Ng and Leonard Lake . One day, co-worker Cliff Peranteau became mad at Ng. On January 18, 1985, Peranteau went missing after telling his girlfriend "Charlie" had invited him to Lake Tahoe. Some days later, Peranteau sent a letter to his boss asking him to send his pay check to a postal box.
Many of Peranteau's belongings were found in the cabin and in Ng's apartment. Investigators apprehended Lake after he and Ng were caught shoplifting from a San Francisco hardware store in 1985. Ng fled from officers, but Lake was taken into custody. Lake swallowed a cyanide capsule he taped to the collar of his shirt while in custody. He reportedly told authorities that Ng was his partner prior to his death several days later. Investigators searched Lake's property and uncovered the remains of several victims.

Ng was apprehended in Canada later in 1985. He was convicted of eleven murders in California in 1999 after 14 years of legal wrangling and stalling. He claimed Lake was the actual murderer and has never accepted responsibility for the murders.

Clifford looks like our guy too. Left San Fran for Vegas. It sounds like authorities think he was killed in 1985. The only way he could be our guy is if he became Ng's partner for five years or if Ng kept him prisoner for five years. I guess anything is possible, and the particulars about Clifford's disappearance is extremely noteworthy.

It is quite possible that the remains could have been there longer then estimated. Also, NG was apprehended in Canada in 1985 so if it is Clifford he would have had to been killed in 1985.

Five years longer? It sure sounds like our guy with the dog and everything. I was looking at his picture last night, and thought he looked like him.

Could Leonard have abandoned Wubon after killing Clifford? Leonard Lake was arrested and subsequently commited suicide with cyanide upon his arrest during questioning. So what happened to Wubon?

I still can't get past the whole issue of "upcycling" the bag. To me that means they took a teeshirt and sewed it into the backpack. Maybe they took the seams apart on the bag, added the graphic portion of the tee shirt and then posted it online.

It would not be a "upcycled" or "repurposed" if no modifications had been done to the backpack (IMO). I just think the bag was made from Mark Pack Works and the tee-shirt had nothing to do with this pack until the etsy poster put them together.

Has anyone found a Mark Pack backpack with other silkscreens from this artist on them? If Mark Pack had the silkscreen of the red tailed hawk - why not just silk screen it directly to the pack? Instead it looked like the cotton fabric attached to the pack (in the original Equestrianista's post). Am I missing something?

See this explanation a page or two back - http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...nd-Canyon-Road-Mar-92&p=11694443#post11694443 (In brief, the backpack was only referred to as "vintage" - which on Etsy means 20 years old or older, and no mention of upcycling was in that listing. The upcycling was mentioned in the raccoon tee listing only.)

I already wondered if Mark Pack Works was the business that caused Jim Kitson to close his shop at the wharf due to copying his artwork. I started researching that last night, and I'm still researching that angle.
The company that stole his 1975 design was mentioned in the memorial as being a "Singapore conglomerate"- I've not found anything suggesting (yet) that Mark Pack Works was a Singapore conglomerate. (But who knows, lol...)

That's the question. Has anyone seen proof the company existed prior to 1981, which I believe is the earliest advertisement we've seen? We can't use 1975 as a definitive date for when the backpack was manufactured, but if the 66 year old manufactured the backpack in 1975, he would have been 26 years old at that time. How old do people think he was when he started the company? I can't imagine a 20 year old manufacturing high quality backpacks. A 26 year old makes more sense. If the company started in 1981 and he was 20 at the time, he would be 54 right now. I think that's very unlikely. As a result, I think he's in his late 50s to late 60s today.

Just an FYI, I've determined this business was run by the same Philip Mark since the beginning. This isn't a situation where a son of the same name inherited the business. If he did, he inherited it in 81 or earlier.

Somewhere I thought I'd read that a Mark Pack owned the business (thought, what a coincidence that his name also had the word 'pack' in it.) I'll try to retrace my steps to see where I thought I read that. One thing to keep in mind is that, although the artwork was labeled Jim Kitson ©1975, that only refers to when Kitson completed the design, so we can assume the pack was made at least a year or two after that. If our earliest find for MPW ads is 1981, that would fit just fine. I'm just wondering (as someone upthread also mentioned) if the owner of the MPW company was acquaintance-grown-friends with Jim Kitson due to common outdoorsy interests--and it'd be my guess that the owner of MPW is roughly the same age as Kitson or maybe older.
